2 Dear customer, thank you that you have decided to buy this product. Following we have listed the things which you have to care for the first use: The StromPi 2 expansion board is the new development of the popular company Joy-IT Power-Solution. Not only that the voltage-range was increased to 6V-61V that you can connect more batteries or a higher voltage supply, the StromPi 2 board now outputs a maximum current of 3A, that also bigger projects of you are no problem. Additional to that, a reset-function for the Raspberry Pi was included to extend the UPSfunction of the StromPi 2. Because of the new super flat design and binding, you can put the StromPi 2 in many different casings and use it in additional ways. The StromPi 2 allows you to connect your Raspberry Pi with any voltage source with a 6V-61V voltage range. Because of that you have additional ways to use your Raspberry Pi ( car, truck, ship, industrial plant for example). Optional, the Raspberry Pi gets an upgrade of the USB-output to a high-power- USB connection, to provide performance intense USB-disk drives. The integrated UPS-function enables you to secure your critical applications against power blackouts. You can monitor the UPS-function via Raspberry Pi software and the software can send an e- mail, for example, if a power blackout occurs. Because of efficiently used controllers, you can use batteries to run the Raspberry Pi mobil. Useful expansion of the UPS-mode: After the StromPi 2 shuts down the Raspberry Pi because of a power blackout, the new reset-function restarts the Raspberry Pi if the power blackout ends.

3 Intended Usage: Expansion card for connecting a compatible one-circuit-board computer (like Raspberry Pi) with a 6V-61V power source Warning: Under heavy load, the Strompi 2 can get really hot. To secure against burnings, please don't touch the circuit board while the! Strompi 2 is active and enable a good air supply that the device can't overheat. GPIO-Port 1. 4 Operation modes The StromPI 2 provides two operation modes, the UPS and the Wide mode which we listed below. UPS mode The UPS Mode is the Battery-friendly Mode: During standby only 20µA 80µA will be used from the wide range voltage source. Because of the low power consumption during standby, the maintenance cycle of possible batteries is really high. While standby for one year, this circuit uses between 175mAh and 700mAh from the wide range power source. With a standard 3200mAh LiPo-Akku with 7,2V for example, theoretical there would be 2500mAh left after 1 year standby (if you don't consider self-discharge, area effects like weather, temperature and the quality of the battery. This is only theoratically, to show how low the energy consumtion is. The real batterycapacity depends on to many factors). That low standby-current results of the fact that the wide range board will only be activated if there is no power supply at the with "IN" marked micro-usb-port. In this case it will be switched to the wide-range source without a break. The current which is needed while the switch will be provided by the StromPi 2. Disadvantage of that is that the StromPI 2 can only be started with the micro- USB-port "IN", while in UPS-mode.

5 Wide mode While in the "WIDE"-mode, the StromPi can be started and used with the standard micro-usb port or with the WIDE-range voltage input, which is for energy sources with 6V-61V. This function will be used at vehicles (like cars, trucks, ships), or at mobile usage with batteries. The power source of the micro-usb connection will be preferred here, at a power blackout, it will also switch to the WIDE-range power source without a break. We advise this mode for the direct use of a power source at the WIDErange input - for battery buffered systems we advise you to use the before mentioned UPS-mode. Even if the StromPI will be provided with the micro USB, it will use 3-7mA, while in WIDE-mode, from the wide-range-power source, thats like a thousand times higher than the standby-usage of the UPS-mode. We advise you to use a ON/OFF switch at the Wide-range power supply because if it is not used in a car for example, the battery will not discharged from it. Switching between UPS & Wide mode You could pick one of the two modes at the front site of the board - please check the marks at the circuit board. For a mode change, both jumpers have to be replugged!

6 High-Power-USB One of the big disadvantages of the Raspberry PI is that its UBS connections can't give up high performances. You can't use USB-disk drives, for media centre oder NAS-applications for example, with that. With the StromPi 2 you have the optional choice to extend the Raspberry Pi with a high-power-usb port and gives the Raspberry Pi USB-ports a higher current output. For this you have to connect the second micro USB port, which is marked with "Data IN, Power OUT", with a standard micro-usb-cable, and connect the second site of the cable with a free USB-port of the Raspberry-Pi.

7 Here you will connect the StromPi 2 via USB with the Raspberry-Pi and with that it can output, depending of the connected voltage, a maximum current of 3A. Additional to that you have the chance to get a higher current at the other USBports of the Raspberry-Pi. Voltage control At the StromPi you can find a with Test point which is marked with "T-Pin", with it you can broadcast the status of the StromPi to the Raspberry-Pi. It will be connected with a Jumper to the GPIO21 pin of the Raspberry-Pi by default. If you want to use the GPIO21 pin for other things you have to remove the Jumper. You can now connect the T-Pin with a free GPIO pin of the Raspberry-Pi, for that you need a Pin-Connector cable. If the StromPi switches into the battery mode, it can, with help of our software, send you an or safely shutdown, to provide your recorded data from being lost. 8 Reset-Circuit One of the expansions compared to an older version is that the StromPi 2 has an onboard reset-circuit. This restarts your Raspberry-Pi automatically if the main power supply is active again. This is a big help at the UPS-mode. If you want to switch between the power sources often (battery -> power supply -> battery -> power supply for example), you can disable the function if you pull out the jumper. The position of the reset field from the older models of the Raspberry Pi B+, 2B and Raspberry Pi 3 is different. Because of that the StromPi 2 has 2 reset pins at the back site: Reset pin for Raspberry PI 3 Reset pin for Raspberry PI B+, 2B The reset pin of the StromPi for the Raspberry Pi 3 is isolated by default, because it would short the older versions of the Raspberry-Pi!

9 Raspberry PI 3 If you want to use the reset function at the Raspberry Pi 3, you first have to pull the isolation from the reset pin which is for the Raspberry Pi 3. You can ignore the Raspberry Pi 2 reset pin because it don't touch any other components here. If you want to use the StromPi for a Raspberry Pi B+ / 2B after that, you must put the isolation back at the reset pin, if you don't do this the Raspberry Pi and the StromPi can take heavy damage. Raspberry PI B+ / 2B The pin for the Raspberry Pi 2 has no isolation and the pin for the Raspberry Pi 3 has an isolation by default. That means you can plug in the StromPi 2 directly.

10 WIDE-range voltage input Connect the marked port with any power supply like power adapter or batteries for example. The voltage range of it has to be between 6V-61V - please take care of the polarity to secure the Raspberry Pi and the StromPi from damage. Alternatively you can run the StromPi with the micro USB connection of the front site of it. It is marked as "IN".
