1 smartquery 3.5 is shipped as an installer both in executable (.exe) format and as a Windows Installer Package (.msi) file. The two installers are identical with the exception that the executable version asks for elevated privileges still before starting the installation. This is required because accessing the settings of Internet Information Services during the initialization phase already requires administrative rights. (The executable installer actually only wraps the msi installer package). In case of using the.msi package directly, please make sure to start it from an elevated environment (e.g. an elevated command prompt). In the following we guide you through the installation steps using the executable version of the installer. The welcome page of the installer is only used to start the real installation procedure in elevated mode: The real first page of the installer contains the usual welcome information:

2 On the following page once can read and accept the License Agreement between him/herself and Kaleidoscope. We offer 3 installation scenarios: Typical, Custom and Complete. At the moment, both Typical and Complete perform the installation of all components.

3 In case of Custom setup, you have the possibility to select the components you would like to install. smartquery consits of two main components: the web application and the background service. If selected, the service application is installed in a subfolder called Service inside the smartquery Web application s installation directory. On the following screen, you can specify how smartquery can connect to the database server. After providing the necessary information (the name of the server instance and either selecting Windows

4 Authentication or Specifying custom SQL user and password) please click Test Connection to verify the validity of the settings. In case of successfull connection, the red cross on top of the windows will turn into a green checkmark, and the Next button becomes available. On the following page, you can either select to create a new database, or to use an existing database. In case of selecting an existing database, please note that it should be prepared with the required schema of smartquery.

5 On the Web site settings page you can configure the web application in IIS. You can select whether to use an existing application pool or create a new one. If the user name and password is not provided for the application pool to be created, it will run with the standard ApplicationPoolIdentity account. You can also configure whether smartquery should run as a virtual application inside an existing web site (options Use existing web site and Virtual directory ), or rather create a new website dedicated to smartquery. In the second case, it is required to review and adjust the settings of the new website in IIS Manager after the successfull installation (e.g. to set up bindings, host names etc). On the Application settings page you can set up the public URL of the application: please provide here the URL on which the users can access smartquery. The address set up here will be placed also in the notification s. The address of the smartquery service is by default. Please change the address, if you install smartquery service on a different computer and/or change the endpoint (port) of the service after the installation. On this page, you can also set up whether to enable authenticating with Active Directory users into smartquery or not. For testing purposes, local Windows authentication can also be enabled. The REST API of the application can also be enabled on this page. By default, smartquery uses the SQL server exclusively to search among the logged queries. In case of heavy usage (ten thousands of queries) it may be necessary to use a separate full text search engine to be able to efficiently search the queries. At the moment we support the Apache Solr server (4.10.4) for this purpose whose address can also be provided on this page. If you would like to use Apache Solr for smartquery, please contact your Kaleidoscope support.

6 If you selected to install the service application as well, on the next screen you can configure the account that executes the service in the background. On the following screen you can further configure the service: - you can customize the name of the service

7 - Set up SMTP settings used to send out notification (using Port: -1 means using the default SMTP port) - The public url of the application is usually the same both for the Service and the Web application, thus no change is required here. After a final confirmation, the installation of smartquery begins, and in case of success, the smartquery Tools application will be started where you can perform further settings (e.g. register the application): If an error occurrs during the installation, you ll see the following screen:

8 Here you can check the log file of the executable installer (by clicking on the link log file ). In the log file please search for a line like the following: [477C:3850][ T15:01:47]i000: Setting string variable 'WixBundleLog_MainPackage' to value 'C:\Users\test\AppData\Local\Temp\smartQuery_3.5_ _000_MainPackage.log' The log file pointed by the WixBundleLog_MainPackage variable (smartquery_3.5_timestamp_mainpackage.log) contains detailed information about the complete installation procedure. In case of an error, please send both files to the smartquery support.
