4 What is mobile GIS? Extension of GIS into the field A mobile GIS is an extension of your Geographic Information System into the field supporting activities leveraging maps and data on mobile devices There are two main ways mobile GIS technology is deployed within an enterprise: Geocentric deployment where end user operates entirely with their maps and GIS capabilities Geo-enabled deployment where end users leverages maps and GIS capabilities to support their other business tasks UC2008 Tech Workshops 4
5 What are key features of mobile GIS? Location-based services for your enterprise A mobile GIS includes a range of key features that are critical to any successful deployment Open mobile devices Local maps and data Accurate location GIS editing tools Query & spatial analysis Wireless access UC2008 Tech Workshops 5
6 What are the benefits of mobile GIS? Increases value of your enterprise GIS A mobile GIS is focused on the management, access, and use of geographic information in the field There are four key benefits of deploying a successful mobile GIS in any enterprise Increased data accuracy through GIS/GPS editing Better information currency with access to server GIS More accurate decisions on the go using spatial analysis Improved productivity of mobile workers UC2008 Tech Workshops 6
7 Who is using mobile GIS today? Used in range of mobile enterprise scenarios St Clair Street Sign Inspections Oakland County Pet Survey Los Angeles County Road Assessments City of Dover NASCAR Event Management Broward County Sheriffs Office Mobile Operating Picture District of Columbia Water and Sewer Authority Nassau County Infrastructure Mapping UC2008 Tech Workshops 7
