4 The Challenge In 2006, Morris James LLP implemented Cisco CM 4.2 By 2009, the existing Cisco servers had become end-of-life Wanted to implement new features, such as presence integration, enhanced DND functionality, mobility, etc. Better technology = better attorneys = better services to clients
5 The Process Have been a Cisco customer since Since we were happy with the Cisco VoIP system and Cisco s support services, we decided to upgrade to UCM 7.1. Software Application Support with Upgrades (SAU) was getting ready to expire and hardware was end-of-life Since we purchased SAU in 2006 for three years, the only expense came from purchasing Cisco hardware, Unified Communications Software Subscription (UCSS) and SmartNet for Decided to use existing Cisco phones
6 Implementation Four weeks of preparation for one weekend of implementation Performed the upgrade myself CIO shadowed the implementation for cross-training gpurposesp Allotted one weekend for implementation and possible service disruption, and I met it CIPT course ($3,495.00) < Third Party Vendor ($20,000+)
7 Implementation Pre-install End-user survey analysis (Help Me Help You) Run DMA (Data Migration Assistant) on existing 4.2 Publisher to export settings Export DMA files to SFTP server for import into 7.1
8 Implementation Install/Cutover Shutdown existing 4.2 Publisher and Subscriber Power on new 7.1 Publisher Import DMA data from SFTP server Power on new 7.1 Subscriber Update DHCP, Gateway configurations, etc. Test
9 Implementation Post-install Clean up configurations on phones Implement new features
10 Implementation Implementation issues: Client/matter codes had special characters in them in 4.2. This was causing warnings in the DMA log. Fix: Export client/matter codes to a csv file, delete client/matter codes prior to export, run the DMA, clean up the exported csv file, import into 7.1 Call forwarding did not work after cutover. Fix: Change the Calling Search Space Activation Policy Mobility had to be set up from scratch
11 Mobility Allows incoming calls to your office phone to also ring your cell, home, etc. Unanswered calls go to office voic system where they are ed to the user as a wav file Mobile Voice Access: User can call the Mobility phone number, log in and dial an outside number, which h masks the caller ID as their office number Current phone calls can be transferred to the user s cell and vice versa Consumes two license units per enabled user
12 Microsoft OCS 2007 R2 Microsoft Office Communications Server (OCS) 2007 R2 Enhanced presence capabilities so assistants, paralegals, and attorneys know when their co-workers are on the phone, from the office or when remote Instant messaging capabilities Dial from Microsoft Office Communicator (MOC) client in the office or from remote location
13 Results Because planning played an integral part in the project, the implementation went smoothly Users and executives are happy to have the new features, such as presence speed dials and unified mobility Microsoft OCS 2007 R2 results: Our pilot group has been communicating more efficiently i between co-workers and to our clients Firm-wide id OCS 2007 R2 deployment in Q2 2010
