Functional haracteristics Overview: The Host Software Support Package (HSSP) for the Intelligent I/O ontroller (IIO) product line is a set of host-resident tools and interface software. Tools are provided for configuring, documenting, and programming the IIO in a manner that minimizes errors and facilitates changes. The programs of the HSSP work in conjunction to accomplish much of the data management necessary for an I/O system. An I/O point data file forms the central repository for information about the I/O points in a system. Data may be entered into the I/O point data file by two different means. A user may interactively enter the information using the I/O Point Manager from a RT terminal. Alternatively, the user may import data from an ASII text file using the Import Utility. The ASII text file may be constructed from a database program, a text editor, or a customer utility. From the I/O point data file, a binary configuration data file is generated which can be downloaded to the IIO in an efficient manner. Several reports are generated from the I/O point data file by the Report Generator Utility. In addition, user-defined ASII files may be generated using the Export Utility. The host program interface to the IIO is simplified by using a set of real time IIO interface modules. These modules perform I/O controller functions, such as initiating diagnostics, configuring scan lists, reading and writing data, and obtaining status and error information. The HSSP is available in. The software is constructed to be highly portable between host computers. The hostdependent functions are isolated and identified to facilitate porting the software. All source code is delivered to the user to allow maximum programming flexibility. Host Interfaces: The HSSP supports several interface devices that are used to connect the GE Fanuc Embedded Systems IIOs. The HSSP can be utilized with -9064, -9066, - and 9150 IIO systems. Based upon the IIO selection and the host platform, an appropriate interface device may be chosen. For a complete list of support platforms and interfaces, either refer to Table 2 or contact GE Fanuc Embedded Systems. The IIO interfaces with an embedded host computer system through shared VMEbus memory. The IIO communicates with the host computer via a VMEbus Reflective Memory board. The host interface options for the - IIO are user-configurable. The - may interface with an embedded host computer system through shared VMEbus memory; interface with an external host computer via a VMEbus Reflective Memory board; or interface via TP/IP with an onboard 100BaseTX Ethernet controller. 2

3 SW-IIO2 Host Software Support Package The ommunications ontroller uses a reflective memory interface to the host computer. ommunication between the and the host computer utilizes a shared control window in reflective memory and interrupt handshaking. The reflective memory interface is supported in two configurations: Split Link and Shared Link. The Split Link configuration adds an independent reflective memory link to an existing system; the reflective memory link used for communications to the IIO nodes is not connected to the host interface link. The Shared Link configuration provides a single reflective memory link that is used as the host interface and for communication to the IIO nodes. The also supports TP/IP as a communications interface to a host computer. ommands and data are passed between the machines through the TP sockets. Figure 1. I/O Data Flow hart I/O Point Manager: The I/O Point Manager is a user-friendly, interactive tool which manages a data file of I/O point information on the host computer. The I/O point data file can be constructed using fill-in-the-blank screen forms, or by importing an ASII text file of I/O point information. The I/O Point Manager generates a binary configuration file for the onfiguration Downloader tool after any change is made to the I/O point data file. The I/O Point Manager s features are summarized below: a. Manages a data file of I/O points for up to 16 I/O scan lists of either digital, analog, generic, or synchro data points. b. Menu-driven interface and fill-in-the-blanks style data entry for I/O point information. c. Allows interactive lookup and changes to I/O point data file. d. Operations on I/O points include ADD, DELETE, HANGE, and OPY. e. Validates information entered for each I/O point. f. Provides capability to scroll through a scan list and select a point for modification. g. Updates I/O point data file for use by Report Generator Utility. h. Maintains the following information for each I/O point: (1) Point ID name (2) Scan list and I/O type (primary or secondary, DI, AI, SI, GI, DO, AO, SO, GO) (3) I/O signal location by chassis, slot, channel, and board type (4) Engineering Units (EU) conversion type (5) Any information associated with EU conversion type such as: (a) Scale factor (b) Polynomial coefficients (c) Smoothing factor (d) Step limit (e) Lookup table number (6) Number of bytes of buffer space occupied and buffer offset. (7) Description field for user-specific information. i. Maintains a list of user-defined breakpoint tables for use in table lookup analog conversions. j. Generates binary configuration data file for use by onfiguration Downloader. Import Utility: The Import Utility allows the user to convert information from an ASII text file into an I/O point data file, where it may be utilized by the I/O Point Manager and the Report Generator Utility. Export Utility: The Export Utility allows the user to extract I/O point information and scan list information from an I/O point data file to ASII text files. The layout of the generated ASII text file is defined by the user by means of an export template file. The template file contains parameter keywords beginning with a percent character which are substituted by I/O point or scan list data in the exported file. Any unsubstituted text is passed through, unchanged, to the exported file. The set of parameter keywords includes all I/O 3

4 SW-IIO2 Host Software Support Package point information maintained in the I/O point data file, as well as scan list-specific information such as buffer lengths and buffer offsets by I/O point. Additionally, user-defined text may be substituted for keywords corresponding to the engineering unit conversion type on an I/O point. Scans list sections in the template file may be used to define a group of lines to be repeated in the exported file with keyword substitutions made for each I/O point in a named scan list. Table sections may be used in a similar manner to repeat a group of lines for each breakpoint in a named lookup table. The template-driven export function provides considerable flexibility for the host programmer. Template files may be defined for generating header files, or data files for customer utilities. Example export template files are provided with the Export Utility. Report Generator Utility: The Report Generator Utility uses the I/O point data file created by the I/O Point Manager to print the following reports: a. I/O point list report b. I/O channel utilization map c. Host I/O buffer map d. Lookup table report The I/O point list report lists the I/O points in all scan lists, sorted by point ID name. All information related to each I/O point is included in the listing. The I/O channel utilization map lists the I/O points sorted by chassis, slot, and channel location. The listing is in a tabular format showing allocated and unallocated channels. The host I/O buffer map lists the point IDs of each scan list in the order of the host computer s I/O buffer. Each scan list is printed separately since there is a separate buffer associated with it. The lookup table report lists the defined lookup tables in an I/O point data file. The breakpoint, output value, slope, and Y-intercept are listed. ustomer-specific reporting requirements not met by the Report Generator Utility may be accomplished by using the Export Utility. onfiguration Downloader: The onfiguration Downloader tool transfers the binary configuration data file from the host computer to the Intelligent I/O ontroller. Any configuration errors which occur are reported to the user and can be routed to a file for printing purposes. f. Download scan lists and lookup tables g. onstruct I/O command lists h. Read data i. Initiate I/O scanning Acceptance Test Support Software: IIO test programs are included with the HSSP which perform data transfers and data comparison to an I/O subsystem configured with loopback cables. Additional test programs demonstrate the data conversion types available for each I/O type. These programs can be used for demonstration, initial operation verification, or acceptance testing. Host Link Diagnostics: A host link to IIO diagnostic is provided to test data transfers from the host computer to/from the IIO memory. The diagnostic executes different bit patterns and displays all detected errors on the host RT.
