6 1. SCOPE This document defines the level 5 subsystem requirements for the Power Distribution Unit (PDU). 2. REQUIREMENTS This section lists the requirements that shall be utilized during design, development, manufacture, assembly, testing and storage of the PDU units. 4.1 Redlining and Blacklining Documents The users of this document shall follow the requirements found in the Redline/Blackline Engineering Documents, LAT-MD latest revision. 8 5. UNIT REDUNDANCY REQUIREMENTS 5.1 Primary and Redundant Units The PDU shall have a primary unit and a (cold) secondary (redundant) unit. Each unit shall be independent and fully functional. 6. CONTROL REQUIREMENTS 6.1 General LATp [4], [2] (8.8.5) The PDU shall communicate on the LATp command/response fabric LATp Address [4], [2] (8.8.5) The PDU shall accept a unique LATp address on the command/response fabric Path Redundancy [7] ( , ) The PDU shall support a primary and a redundant path for all communications with the GASU, including, commands, resets, clock, and response signals LATp statistics [2] (8.14), [3], [4], [7] ( ) The PDU shall provide counters which are accessible on the LATp command fabric and which shall be returned to a well-known state on the receipt of either hardware or software resets or a commanded write Response Statistics [2] (8.14), [4] The PDU shall provide a LATp response statistics register Command Statistics [2] (8.14), [4] The PDU shall provide a LATp command statistics register. latest revision. POWER AND POWER SWITCHING REQUIREMENTS 7.1 Power Distribution [2] (8.8.6, 9.1), [3], [5] The PDU shall distribute power from the SC 28V bus to the GASU/ACD, the EPUs, and the Towers Power Redundancy [2] (8.8.6, 9.3), [3], [5] The PDU (and hence, the rest of the LAT) shall be powered from either the SC primary feed or the SC redundant feed Powering the PDU [2] (8.8.6, 9.1), [3] The PDU shall be powered on/off, via control by either SIU Powering the GASU [2] (8.8.6, 9.2), [3] The PDU power switches to the GASU shall be independently controlled by either SIU Powering the ACD/Tower/EPU [1], [2] (8.8.6, 9.2), [3], [4] The PDU power switches to the ACD/Tower/EPU shall be independently controlled by the command/response fabric Voltage Switched to GASU/ACD/EPU The PDU shall switch at least 25.5V to each GASU, ACD, or EPU. The drop from PDU input to PDU output shall be less than 1.5V Current Supplied to GASU/ACD/EPU The PDU shall supply at least 0.9A at 27V to each GASU, ACD, or EPU Voltage Switched to Tower The PDU shall switch at least 25.5V to each Tower. 11 7.1.9 Overcurrent Protection on each Power Switch [5], (5.2.3) Each of the 23 Tower/EPU/GASU/ACD power switches of the PDU shall be protected from shorts at the loads Inrush Current Limiting on each Power Switch Each of the 23 Tower/EPU/GASU/ACD power switches of the PDU shall limit inrush current to 15mA/uSec Power Setting Survives Reset [7] ( ) The PDU power switches on/off setting shall not change upon a hardware or software reset. 7.2 Power Supply Characteristics V Bus Operating Range The PDU 28V Bus operating range shall be 28.0V +/- 1.0V V Bus Operating Range The PDU 3.3V Bus operating range shall be 3.3V +/- 8%. 7.3 Power Consumption The PDU shall consume less than 20W fully loaded. 7.4 Spacecraft Specific Requirements SC Load Shedding The PDU shall tolerate instantaneous removal of power without damage or degradation to itself or the SC Do Not Connect SC Regulated Power Feeds The PDU shall not connect SC regulated power feeds together in any combination by design or by a single fault for more than 10usec. latest revision. 12 7.4.3 Tolerate SC Regulated Power Feeds Concurrently Live The PDU shall tolerate, without damage or degradation to itself or the SC, primary and redundant SC regulated power feeds that are active at the same time SC Regulated Power Feed Current The PDU shall satisfy all requirements with supply currents ranging from 29.4A to 44.8A. The PDU shall not be damaged by supply currents ranging from 29.4A to 44.8A SC Regulated Power Feed Impedances The PDU shall satisfy all requirements with SC regulated power feed output impedances less than or equal to the impedance as shown in the Figure below. Impedance is measured at the LAT plug interface of the SC harness SC Regulated Power Feed Voltage Range The PDU shall satisfy all requirements with a SC supplied regulated voltage of 28.0V +/- 1.0V at the LAT connector interface to the DAQ. latest revision. 13 7.4.7 SC Regulated Power Feed Voltage Transients The PDU shall tolerate SC regulated power feed maximum voltage transients of 28.0V +/- 3.0V for no greater than 10msec when the output load changes from 10% to 50% or from 50% to 100% SC Regulated Power Feed Current Transients When measured with a source having impedance characteristics of the SC power system: Turn-on and operational current transients The PDU shall limit turn-on (inrush) current transients and operational current transients to 15mA/usec on DAQ feeds Turn-off current transients The PDU shall limit turn-off current transients to 0.2A/usec on DAQ feeds. 7.5 Grounding System Grounding Detailed grounding requirements shall be met as documented in the GLAST Satellite EMI Requirements Document, 433-RQMT Load Return Current Path The SC provides an electrically conductive plane, known as chassis ground, as the ground reference for the GLAST Observatory. The GLAST SC provides a single point ground for PDU primary referencing, to minimize primary power current in the SC structure during normal operation. The Observatory chassis shall not be used to conduct intentional primary power load current. latest revision. LAT-SS Page 13

MONITORING REQUIREMENTS 8.1 Voltage Monitoring Monitoring PDU Voltage [2] (10.3), [3], [12] The PDU shall provide primary and redundant access for a measurement of its 3.3 V level to be read out by higher-level systems (the SC) Monitoring GASU Voltage [2] (10.3), [3], [12] The PDU shall route GASU bus voltages from the GASU to the SC Monitoring TPS Voltage [1], [2] (10.3), [3], [12] The PDU shall measure TPS bus voltage and provide the result to higher-level systems Monitoring EPU Voltage [1], [2] (10.3), [3], [12] The PDU shall measure EPU bus voltage and provide the result to higher-level systems Accuracy The PDU shall measure voltages from 0.0V to 2.5V to within 20mV. 8.2 Temperature Monitoring Monitoring PDU Temperature [2] ( ), [3], [12] The PDU shall provide primary and redundant access for a measurement of its thermistors to be read out by higher-level systems (the SC) Monitoring GASU Temperature [2] ( ), [3], [12] The PDU shall route access to GASU thermistors from the GASU to the SC Monitoring TPS Temperature [1], [2] ( ), [3] The PDU shall measure TPS thermistors and provide the result to higher-level systems. latest revision. 15 8.2.4 Monitoring TEM Temperature [1], [2] ( ), [3] The PDU shall measure TEM thermistors and provide the result to higher-level systems Monitoring EPU Temperature [1], [2] ( ), [3] The PDU shall measure EPU thermistors and provide the result to higher-level systems Monitoring LAT Temperature [1], [2] (10.1.4), [3], [12] The PDU shall measure thermistors and RTDs on the specified structural elements of the LAT and provide the result to higher-level systems Accuracy The PDU shall measure thermistors and RTDs to the specified accuracy and resolution Thermistors [12] Thermistor measurements shall have a range of [-40C, +60C] and be accurate to within +/- 0.5C RTDs [12] RTD measurements shall have a range of [-100C, +100C] and be accurate to within +/- 0.5C. latest revision. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 9.1 Mass Property [8] The mass of the PDU shall not exceed 11.8Kg. 9.2 Center of Gravity Property The center of gravity of the PDU shall be measured and recorded to a precision of +/-3mm. 9.3 EMI/EMC The PDU shall meet EMI/EMC requirements specified in [9] (LAT-PS-04568). 9.4 Temperature The PDU shall meet all requirements over a temperature range as specified for the DAQ subsystem in [10] (LAT-SS-00778). 9.5 Vibration The PDU shall meet all requirements after subjected to vibration level specified for the DAQ sub-system in [10] (LAT-SS-00778). latest revision.
