PROTÉGÉ SYSTEM Introduction The Protégé System is a powerful integrated alarm and access control management system designed to provide integration with building automation, apartment complex control and HVAC in one flexible package. Communicating through a proprietary high speed protocol across an encrypted local area network and AES Encrypted Proprietary RS-485 module network using modular-based hardware design, system installers have the flexibility to accommodate any installation from small or large, residential or commercial. Application Note Information This application note covers the integration of an external intercom solution that outputs an RS232 or other compatible string. This allows for the integration of the intercom with Protégé to provide floor credits to an elevator group or to open an external access controlled door. Firmware Version This application note requires version 2970 or higher of the controller firmware to operate with the SES Type Intercom and Version 2947 or higher for the other intercoms mentioned. The Protégé System Management Suite User Interface and Server must be build 350 or higher. The controller must have installed a PRT-COMM RS232 Serial Communications Interface. 2 AN-030 Protégé System Controller Intercom Integration Programming
INTERCOM INTEGRATION Overview The integration of an intercom allows lift credits to be passed from the intercom directly to the protégé system controller, this requires no relays to interface and a full audit history in the in Protégé System of whom allow access to which floor. The System Controller requires a PRT-COMM Serial Interface Board to be installed prior to the programming of this application note. For testing purposes where hardware for the required intercom is not available an intercom emulation application written for MS Windows is available for all supported intercom systems. To obtain a copy please contact support@incontrol.co.nz. Intercom Messages Intercom messages vary between manufactures however Protégé and the Protégé System Controller provide a generic method of integration. The following diagram shows how the RS232 data message from the intercom is routed through the system and then used to generate the appropriate action in Protégé which will either allow a group of floors to be open on a set of elevators or a group of doors to be unlocked. Figure 1 Intercom Message Flow AN-030 Protégé System Controller Intercom Integration Programming 3
Figure 1 highlights the actions of the intercom user and the flow of information from the Intercom System to the Protégé System Controller. A. A user receives a call from the front door, at this point if the user wishes to allow them entry to the building they press the required unlock or open key sequence. B. The action in step A results in a RS232 event string being transmitted out of the Serial RS232 Port on the Intercom System. This event in most cases is an ASCII string of characters terminated with a Carriage Return (CR) and Line Feed (LF). C. As can be seen in the diagram the point of integration is the Gray Arrow this represents the RS232 cable which will plug in to the Protégé System Controller PRT- COMM interface. The event string is received by the Protégé System Controller and is checked to ensure that it meets the data format of the programmed intercom it is then passed to the next step. D. Once Step C has completed the processing on the string the data that is needed to be processed is extracted from the string in Step D. E. The data is then formatted again in the same way a card read or pin number event is structured. Using this data and the programmed setting in the service for how a user is associated with this data the Intercom Service will then generate the elevator or door group commands based on the associated user. The above method offers two distinct advantages. You do not need to have any relay control of floors or hardware timers. You are able to easily modify the actions taken by the system for that intercom entry event. A full audit trail is also provided. Intercom Apartment User Association When an intercom message is received the data that is sent may identify the apartment or the actual user, it could even be a phone extension or memory address which in each case is unique to the apartment number that allowed the person access. The Protégé System Controller can then use this extracted information to load up a user from the system. Provision in the system to use this data as a User Number, User Number plus an Offset, User Pin Number or User Card Number allows a user to be programmed in the system for the apartment number. The settings (Door Group, Floor Group) from the access level assigned to this user are then used to send to the elevator or door group programmed in the service. User Number Association When using the User Number identification setting the number from the intercom is converted directly to the specific user number, the access level is loaded up and the floor groups and door groups used from that access level. 4 AN-030 Protégé System Controller Intercom Integration Programming
Figure 2 Apartment Identified By User Number User Number Plus Offset Association When using the User Number Plus Offset identification setting the number from the intercom is converted directly to the specific user number and then the offset programmed in the service is added to the number to get the user number, the access level is loaded up and the floor groups and door groups used from that access level. Figure 3 Apartment Identified By User Number Plus Offset User PIN Number Association When using the User PIN Number identification setting the number from the intercom is converted to a PIN number and the programmed users in the system searched for a matching user that has the PIN number if PIN number is matched to a user number, the access level is loaded up and the floor groups and door groups used from that access level. Figure 4 Apartment Identified By PIN Number AN-030 Protégé System Controller Intercom Integration Programming 5
User Card Number Association When using the User Card Number identification setting the number from the intercom is converted to a Card Number with a site code of 0 and the programmed users in the system searched for a matching card number if a card number is matched to a user number, the access level is loaded up and the floor groups and door groups used from that access level. Figure 5 Apartment Identified By Card Number 6 AN-030 Protégé System Controller Intercom Integration Programming
INTERCOM SERVICE PROGRAMMING Overview Having selected the appropriate identification method that you want your intercom system to use the following explains the steps to program the intercom service. Integrated Control Technology recommends that the card number or PIN number method of identification is used as these allow users to be programmed at any location in the system rather than a specific address. Keypad Programming In the example below we will use Service 005 however any service can be used. Using Service 001 or Service 004 may limit connectivity to other applications. Enter user code: ****** Service to modify: SV005 SV005 State Halted Login to the LCD keypad using the installer login user code or a suitable code that has been programmed with the Menu 4 access to the system. Go to the service programming settings by selecting the Service Programming Menu. Press [MENU, 4, 7, 1]. The display will show you the first service, scroll up to service 005 or enter 005 on the numeric keys. Make sure the display shows Halted, if it shows running press the [2] key to halt the service. Press the [ENTER] key to move to the next screen. SV005 Ser Type Intercom Press the [1] key until the service type shows the Intercom Service then press the [ENTER] key to move to the next screen. SV005 Ser Mode Start with O/S Press the [1] key to change the start up mode to Start with O/S then press the [ENTER] key to move to the next screen. SV005 Type Sentex Infinity SV005 Identify Card Number Press the [1] key to scroll to the intercom type that you are programming. Some options are not relevant for certain intercoms. Please consult the Protégé System Controller Reference Manual. In our example we are using the Sentex Infinity Intercom. Press the [ENTER] key to move to the next screen. SV005 Port Ext Port 1 SV005 Speed 4800 SV005 Parity No Parity SV005 General [********] Press the [1] key to scroll to the external communications port number that the intercom is plugged in to. In our example we are using External Comm Port 1. Press the [ENTER] key to move to the next screen. Press the [1] key to scroll to the external communications port speed that will be used by the intercom, this must match what is being sent by the intercom unit. In our example we are using 9600 Bits Per Second. Press the [ENTER] key to move to the next screen. Press the [1] key to scroll to the external communications port data parity that is used by the intercom, this must match what is being sent by the intercom unit. In our example we are using No Parity. Press the [ENTER] key to move to the next screen. The General Options are reserved and not used at present. Press the [ENTER] key to move to the next programming screen. SV005 Intercom 1 Address: 001 SV005 Elv Group *Elv Group 002 Program the address of the first intercom. In our example we are using the Sentext Infinity which requires an address setting to operate. Our test intercom is set to address 1 so we are using that as our first address. Press the [ENTER] key to move to the next programming screen until the one below is shown, leave the Intercom Address 2, 3 and 4 set to the default of 255. Press the [1] key to scroll an elevator group that the intercom should send the floor group credit to. In our example we are using Elevator Group 2 which has only elevators 1 and 2 programmed. Press the [ENTER] key to move to the next screen. A common error when configuring the intercom service is to select an elevator group that has no elevators programmed. Ensure that at least one elevator is set in the selected elevator group. Start The Intercom Service Once you have programmed the above setting return to the service state screen and press the [1] key to start the service, the service state should change to running. 8 AN-030 Protégé System Controller Intercom Integration Programming
USER PROGRAMMING Introduction In our example we are using the card type identification method this means that our users need to be identified with a card number. Keypad Programming In the example below we will use User Number to program and we will set the card number to 1200 and the facility code to 0 to allow our card number identification to work with the apartment number that is sent (1200) in our case. Enter user code: ****** UN00010 Facility Id: Login to the LCD keypad using the master login user code or a suitable code that has been programmed with the ability to program users. Our example user is number UN Set the facility code for the user to all 0 s. UN00010 Card No: Set the card number to 1200 which is the number we will use from our intercom system. We will use the intercom emulation software to demonstrate how this works. Intercom Emulator Application To aid in the testing and verification of the intercom application Integrated Control Technology have developed and emulator application that provides output which matches the data sent from the intercoms we support. Figure 6 Intercom Emulator AN-030 Protégé System Controller Intercom Integration Programming 9
Select the serial port number for your computer you want to use and set the speed and parity options to match the intercom you are emulating. Program the unit number and the user id to match the data that would be inserted in the intercom string. In our example we are using unit 1 and user id Figure 7 Intercom Configuration Screen Once set up select the OK button and then press the send button to transmit the data out the serial port on the computer. 10 AN-030 Protégé System Controller Intercom Integration Programming
