Users can learn how their configuration items are configured and changing over time, and determine if their configuration items are compliant by providing the capability to compare discovered configuration of "configuration items" to "reference configuration" and determine the variations that define violations to local policy. IBM Tivoli Change and Configuration Management Database V7.2 IBM Tivoli Change and Configuration Management Database is the heart of the IBM Service Management solution. It provides the robust Configuration Management Database (CMDB). It contains the knowledge base made up of configuration items (CIs), process artifacts, and asset tables that are used by the other applications associated with the IBM Service Management solution. IBM Tivoli Change and Configuration Management Database provides the change management solution, which is comprised of a rich set of IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) V3 aligned processes. The change and configuration management processes are provided to help you have the ability to govern the way the data within the CMDB is updated and protected from unauthorized changes. In addition, IBM Tivoli Change and Configuration Management Database provides IBM's Configuration Management System (CMS) tooling for communication, centralized security administration, enduser interface, workflow engine, reporting infrastructure, and tooling to integrate with operational management products. Because the software can provide discovery snapshots about what components of an application have changed, you can help minimize time needed for root cause analysis. You can use Tivoli Application Dependency Discovery Manager to compare configurations to a reference configuration to reveal policy violations, and audit the impact of changes to your business processes to help your efforts to ensure they have the expected results. New features of IBM Tivoli Application Dependency Discovery Manager V7.2 improve ease of use and control over function and usage in an effort increase time to value. You can leverage your existing investments with IBM Tivoli Application Dependency Discovery Manager in an effort to improve time to value. New sensors for storage that enhance the storage details and provide you with information about the hidden dependencies between storage and applications, and help improve the availability of the services they deliver. Sensors for virtualization include VMWare, System p, and Microsoft Hyper-V that will discover hosts and guest as well as resource capacity allocated to guest systems. This provides you with the ability to view, govern, and understand how virtual environments are used effectively within the environments. Visualization is improved by optimizing the Domain Manager User Interface to display a large number of items effectively. Scale and performance are improved in an effort to improve time to value. Node centered topology enables users, with a large set of computer systems and applications, to easily visualize relationships and dependencies on a map in the user interface. Resource Utilization Metrics Sensor allows the user to gather basic operating system utilization data about a discovery target machine. The sensor gathers CPU, memory, disk, and network utilization data and displays the information in a new metrics tab added to the computer system details panel in the user interface. Other sensors for this release include Netflow, Microsoft Clusters 2003, and Microsoft Exchange Continues to deliver the same content included in IBM Tivoli Change and Configuration Management Database V7.2. New update promotion capability to help a configuration administrator be more productive. In general, you should use a fast, multiprocessor system for the Tivoli Application Dependency Discovery Manager server. Windows gateways If your network contains Windows systems, you must specify a Windows system to serve as a gateway server to discover information about the Windows systems that are running in your environment. This gateway server should be in the same firewall zone as the discovered Windows hosts, and must have SSH access from the server. All Windows gateways must be running a supported version of either Bitvise WinSSHD or the Cygwin SSH daemon. (For more information, refer to the Tivoli Application Dependency Discovery Manager Administrator's Guide.) You do not need to configure Windows gateways during the installation process, but you must include gateways in your installation plan and verify the system requirements for candidate systems. After the installation, you can use the Product Console to configure hosts to serve as Windows gateways on your network. An anchor and a gateway running on the same Windows system is supported. Use this table to determine the database server hardware requirements for your environment. Note: These recommendations assume that the IBM Tivoli Application Dependency Discovery Manager database is installed on a separate system. You can install IBM Tivoli Application Dependency Discovery Manager with a local database, but this is not recommended for production environments. Keep in mind that database performance is also affected by the speed of input/output operations. 12 Software requirements IBM Tivoli Application Dependency Discovery Manager V7.2 Each Tivoli Application Dependency Discovery Manager Domain Manager server or Tivoli Application Dependency Discovery Manager Enterprise Domain Manager server must be running a supported operating system and Java TM virtual machine (JVM). Important: Be sure to read the following important information before installing the Tivoli Application Dependency Discovery Manager server: You must install the latest patches and updates from the operating system vendor before installing the Tivoli Application Dependency Discovery Manager server. The Tivoli Application Dependency Discovery Manager server supports only the IBM Java Runtime Environment (JRE). The user ID under which the Tivoli Application Dependency Discovery Manager server runs must have read, write, and execute permissions for its installation directory and contents, and for the temporary directory of the system. By default, the installation directory is /opt/ibm/cmdb on Linux and UNIX systems, or c: \ibm\cmdb on Windows systems. Typically, the temp directory is %TEMP% on a Windows system and /tmp on Linux and UNIX systems. On Linux and UNIX systems, the Tivoli Application Dependency Discovery Manager server user ID must also have root execution permission for the nmap command. For detailed information about Nmap and the Stack Scan sensor, refer to the stack-scan-sensor topic in the Tivoli Application Dependency Discovery Manager Sensor Reference. On supported AIX operating systems, you must have an extraction utility available in the /usr/bin or /usr/local/bin directory. If you did not install the extraction utility with the operating system, you must install an extraction utility into one of those directories before beginning the Tivoli Application Dependency Discovery Manager server installation. Although 64-bit systems are supported, the Tivoli Application Dependency Discovery Manager server runs in a 32-bit JVM. The installation process uses Java 1.5 JRE 32 bit. To run a 32-bit Java GUI on 64-bit hardware with a Linux operating system, you need the following 32-bit shared library files: libdl.so.2 libpthread.so.0 libstdc++.so.5 libxmu.so.6 libxt.so.6 libx11.so.6 libm.so.6 libxtst.so.6 libxp.so.6 libc.so.6 lib/ld.so.1 libxext.so.6 libsm.so.6 libice.so.6 libxau.so.6 libxdmcp.so.6 Discovered systems might be running operating systems and applications that are no longer supported by their vendors. While every effort is made to fix issues encountered on these targets of a discovery, you might have to reproduce the problem on a vendor-supported operating system or application, and use the vendor's support. The installer can optionally install a local DB2 database as part of the Tivoli Application Dependency Discovery Manager installation process, or create the required tables using an existing local DB2 installation. Unlike typical systems management licensing models that require entitlements of specific software components to specific systems, the IBM Tivoli Environment- Managed Licensing Model provides the customer flexibility to deploy its IBM Tivoli software products within its environment in a manner that can address and respond to the customer's evolving architecture. That is, as the architecture of a customer's environment changes, the customer's implementation of IBM Tivoli software can be altered, as needed, without affecting the customer's license requirements (as long as the customer does not exceed its entitlements to the software). Under Enhanced Value-Based Pricing, licensing and pricing of server-oriented applications are determined based upon the server's use in the customer's environment. IBM Tivoli Enhanced Value-Based Pricing terminology definitions Authorized User Authorized User is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. An Authorized User is a unique person that is given access to the program. The program may be installed on any number of computers or servers and each Authorized User may have simultaneous access to any number of instances of the program at one time. Licensee must obtain separate, dedicated entitlements for each Authorized User accessing the program in any manner directly or indirectly (for example, via a multiplexing program, device, or application server) through any means. Client device or client Client device is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed.
