Personalized business dashboards process business events and data, and calculate key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics. The events and data can be collected from a wide variety of sources including WebSphere Process Server and IBM FileNet P8 business process management (BPM). In addition, you can use adapters to collect events from additional sources. V6.1 enhancements help you access more information and improve overall ease of use for designing and deploying dashboards. WebSphere Business Monitor V6.1 provides new ways of gaining access to more events and data in order to make KPIs and dashboards a more comprehensive representation of business performance. In addition to processing events received from event sources, WebSphere Business Monitor can now pull additional business reference information into the Business Monitor server. When integrated with WebSphere Integration Developer and WebSphere Process Server, WebSphere Business Monitor can track the activity of the full range of components running in WebSphere Enterprise Service Bus and WebSphere Process Server. WebSphere Business Monitor now provides first-class support for monitoring WebSphere MQ Workflow processes and IBM FileNet P8 processes. WebSphere Business Monitor provides illustrations and starting point examples for monitoring the activity in business applications such as SAP by integrating with WebSphere Adapters and either WebSphere Enterprise Service Bus or WebSphere Process Server. WebSphere MQ can be used as an on-ramp to send events to the WebSphere Business Monitor event infrastructure. Empowering the line of business through enhanced capability: WebSphere Business Monitor V6.1 provides improvements to business dashboards that enhance the ability to monitor the business and to determine the parameters that need to be monitored. New user interface design, featuring Web 2.0-AJAX and drag-and-drop customization, can help you accomplish more with fewer clicks. Users can personalize dashboards by selecting information of interest, filtered for their role within the company. Business users can create KPIs without requiring a new IT development and deployment cycle. These KPIs can be optionally shared with others across the company. Expanded KPI calculations, including calculations based on the relationship with other KPIs. New "Getting Started" guide application, with integrated video, helps you quickly understand the depth and breadth of what can be achieved using the components of business dashboards. Business users can subscribe to business alerts of interest and select notification channels (for example, dashboard alert viewer, , or pager message). New user interface helps you monitor and manage human tasks running in WebSphere Process Server. A business manager can monitor and analyze the human task workload, and take corrective action to transfer a human task to another user, all within a single user interface. 3 Speeding development of BAM applications through iterative development and templates: Development roles in IT use the WebSphere Business Monitor development toolkit to implement event processing and calculations of metrics and KPIs for use in dashboards. V6.1 provides an improved development experience for these users. Manual deployment steps have been removed to reduce the time involved with developing, testing, and changing a monitor model application as part of an iterative development approach. You can simply add the monitor model application to an integrated test server using the Monitor Development toolkit menu. Likewise, steps to reflect a change to a monitor model have been automated. Developers can use monitoring templates to speed the development time for common business monitoring requirements. When creating a monitor model to observe an application developed with WebSphere Integration Developer, you can choose from a predefined set of common monitoring templates. When selected, a template automatically adds the implementation metrics to the monitor model. For example, you can select a template to capture the elapsed duration of a Business Process Execution Language (BPEL) process. V6.1 provides deep integration with WebSphere Integration Developer. When developers are using both tools in combination, the changes made to an application in WebSphere Integration Developer can impact how the application is monitored. New refactoring and synchronization features help keep the application and the corresponding monitor models consistent. The monitor model test environment has been extended to include AJAX-based dashboards for the complete set of metrics, KPIs, and viewers. A choice of development platforms is supported for Business Monitor development toolkit. You can use Rational Application Developer or WebSphere Integration Developer. This benefits those using monitoring applications not developed with WebSphere Integration Developer and not requiring WebSphere Integration Developer to be installed. Lowering the overall costs of BAM deployment: WebSphere Business Monitor improves the installation and administration tasks required to set up, configure, and maintain BAM applications. A quick start installation option is available and designed to reduce the installation time for a basic configuration of Business Monitor with the examples of exploration testing or a pilot project. This option requires only one mandatory prerequisite product, WebSphere Application Server V6.1. For situations that require more advanced capability, you have the flexibility to install additional software such as WebSphere Portal and DB2 Alphablox. Administrators can now install and configure a monitor model application consistent with other WebSphere Application Server enterprise applications. Manual steps in previous releases have been removed or automated.
