1 Class Schedule Building Training Administrative Banner-Compact View
2 Administrative Banner Navigation, Tips, and Best Practices Administrative Banner access is through My Missouri State, Work Resources tab, Administrative Banner link. When you first open it, you will not have to log in to Administrative Banner with a username and password, since you are already logged into My Missouri State. Administrative Banner does timeout, just like My Missouri State. However, when you do need to log in, you will use your BearPass username and password. Administrative Banner is now web based. Chrome is the preferred/recommended browser. Administrative Banner is slower than Banner INB, but we are aware of that and Computer Services is always working to make this better.
3 After logging in, the Administrative Banner home screen will look like this. You can navigate to any page/form i. 1. Type the page/form name (SSASECT, SFASRPO, SGAADVR, etc.) into the Search box and hit enter on your keyboard.
4 2. Type the page/form description into the Search box to see a list of pages/forms. Select the correct form. (Click with mouse, use down arrow and hit enter.) 3. Select the page/form from My Banner.
5 To add pages/forms to your My Banner, type My Banner in the search box and hit enter on your keyboard. Using your mouse, click in the right hand object selection box (see red arrow above). Now use your down arrow on your keyboard, to scroll through any list already there, past the last listing. This will open a text box. You can type in the page/form name into that text box. Hit tab. If you need to add more pages/forms, create another text box by using your down arrow key. You will need to log out and back in to see the changes.
6 4. Navigate between pages/forms using the Recently Opened options. You can also search for a new form without having to go all the way back to the home screen. Use the magnifying glass option. Then type the name of the page/form and hit enter.
7 The biggest change from Banner INB to Administrative Banner is navigation. Next/Previous Block is now Next/Previous Section. However, you can now use your mouse to click in any field that you want. There is yet to be an instance where you HAVE to Next/Previous Block. The new navigation allows for a lot more tabbing. Keyboard Shortcuts You can hover over the commands (Exit, Save, Start Over, etc.) in Administrative Banner for the keyboard shortcuts.
8 Pages/Forms (SSASECT) The first SSASECT page will request information about the term and CRN. 1. Provide a term code and tab over to/click in the CRN field. 2. Provide CRN information. a. Enter 5 digit CRN number. b. Enter the word ADD to add a new CRN. c. Search for an existing CRN. 3. Choose the Green GO or Next Section. (ALT-PAGE DOWN). Course Information is now loaded into SSASECT.
9 Pages will have tabs. The green Start Over will take you back to the first page of the page (SSASECT) (where you entered the term/crn information). Each page/form will have an exit button. This takes you back to the previous page/form.
10 Sections Pages are made up of sections. You will usually TAB to navigate through the sections or click with your mouse. There will be some instances where Next Section is required within a section, but these instances are few. Each section has an expand/hide arrow. For class schedule building, leave each section expanded. Each section has an Insert, Delete, Copy, Filter option. You will only use Insert and Delete and only in specific forms.
11 Related Menus All pages/forms have a RELATED menu. This menu will list pages/forms that are related to the form you are working in. SSASECT-Related Menu SSASECT-Meeting Times and Instructor Tab-Related Menu Tools Menus Each page/form will have a Tools menu.
12 Clear Record and Clear Data may clear out the errors or information that are causing issues for you. Clear Data behaves similarly to Banner INB Clear Block. Export will allow you to export the information, usually to an excel spreadsheet. You can also change your Administrative Banner Layout here. We recommend staying in compact layout.
13 Course Section Information Tab Section Enrollment Information Note: The Section Enrollment Information page defaults to the Reserved Seats Tab. Be sure to choose the Enrollment Details tab before making any changes. Enrollment Details Tab Reserved Seats Tab
14 Meeting Times and Instructor Tab Meeting Dates Tab Meeting Location and Credits Tab Section Preferences You will not use this tab for class schedule building. This is one page where Next/Previous Section moves you within the section. This is the same as it has been previously in Banner INB. This is one page/form where you can use Insert and Delete.
15 Query/Search Any field that you can query/search has 3 dots next to the field. For a query, you will select the fields you want to use from the dropdown list. You will then enter values for those fields. You can include as many fields as you wish. Once you have chosen all the fields you want to add and the values, choose GO. The query/search will return any results that match. When searching for a specific section/crn, you can double click on any of the fields in the 2 nd scroll bar and it will load that CRN into SSASECT.
16 Or, you can select the CRN you want and choose SELECT. After you double-click or choose SELECT, the CRN is loaded into SSASECT. Some queries/searches will just give you a list. These were drop down lists in Banner INB.
17 Error Messages There are 3 messages in Administrative Banner. A green message is a positive response to whatever action you ve taken. A yellow message is a warning message that usually requires a question to be answered or an acknowledgement of some kind. A red message is an error that requires action before you can proceed. Green Message-Positive Response to an Action or Instructional Messages. I chose to save a change I made in SSASECT. It saved successfully. I opened the Query page. This is an informational message. Yellow Message-Warning I changed day and time information for this CRN. I now have an instructor schedule conflict. Because this is a crosslisted course, I know it is okay to override. When I choose OK, I get the green saved message.
18 This is the message I receive when making changes to one crosslisted course but not the other. This is the message I receive when I made a change to SSASECT, but didn t save it before choosing to Start Over. Red ERROR message I attempted to make BMS 240 a lab class, but lab isn t an option for this class. It can only be built as a lecture. I must change the schedule type back to LEC before I can save.
19 Error messages cover up the START OVER button. To hide the error message, click on the Message Indicator. This will hide the message. Class Schedule Building-SSASECT 1. You will still use add to add a new section. 2. You must still remove the meeting type and instructor before changing your part of term. (BEFORE the schedule posts). 3. It is easier to see where the builder needs to enter in the credit and billing hours. The hours from the catalog are italic and the only box is the where the builder will enter in their choice, if applicable. 4. We are still using all the same fields in SSASECT. That has not changed.
20 5. On the Reserved Seats Tab, each record now has two rows but it is all the same information. 6. You must still have a meeting type before you can add instructor information. This is also one section where you will use next section to between from the Schedule to Instructor sections. However, you can still click in each section. 7. You will find the same options for room searches in the Related Menu. 8. The Query for Faculty M# in the Meeting Times and Instructor Tab is slightly different.
21 a. Click the 3 dots, query. You will be taken to a landing page. This information doesn t need to be reviewed or changed. Select GO. You will be taken to a landing page. Double click on the M# and this faculty information will be pulled back into SSASECT.
22 Related Menus Course Section Detail-SSADETL This is where you will complete the linking for lecture/lab courses on the Section Links and Co- Requisites tab. You can also view Supplemental Course Fees on the Section Fees tab, and find Service Learning and Variable Topics Section (STPC) Attributes on the Degree Program Attributes tab. This page/form have not changed in functionality. You will have an added step of verifying the Term and CRN information before proceeding to the page/form. Course Section Comments-SSATEXT This is where you will enter course section comments. You will still use the Section Long Text. This page/form have not changed in functionality. You will have an added step of verifying the Term and CRN information before proceeding to the page/form. Cross List Definitions-SSAXLST This is where you will find, build, and assign crosslist codes. This page/form have not changed in functionality but the query looks different. The query will require you to select the fields to use to search. To search for an open cross list code, your query should use the Term and Cross List fields. 1. Enter the Term. 2. Use the % sign for the Cross List field. This will search for all values.
23 3. Choose GO. When the query returns results, you will have multiple pages of cross list codes. You can increase the number of results that show on the page and you can use the page errors to search through the pages. Once you identify a gap/open cross list, just exit out of the page/form. If you know your crosslist code already, you don t need to use the query. Once you are in the Cross List Definitions page/form, the functionality is the same. You still cannot navigate to a specific CRN in SSASECT from this page/form. However, you can still copy a CRN, go back to SSASECT, and paste that CRN.
24 Query Available Class Room-SLQMEET The functionality of this page/form is the same, but the navigation is different. The first set of information is verifying the information brought in from SSASECT (time, building, day, campus, etc.). Choose GO. That information stays at the top of the page/form. You now have to next section or click in the Class Room Query Results section. This will bring up the results. You can still double click on a result to pull it into SSASECT. Building/Room Schedules-SSAMATX
25 Building/Room Schedule-SSAMATX The functionality of this page/form is the same, but the navigation is different. You will complete the query with the term, the building name and room number. Choose GO. The Query will return the entire schedule for that room. Depending on results, you may have multiple pages. You can now sort by the results by the Subject, Course, CRN, and Cross List columns. You can also choose to Filter Again. This will take you back to the query, but keep your existing fields/values. This is helpful if you need to add to your query.
