1 Intoduction 1.1 Scope This ICS defines the Inteface between the MIS and Pepess. It specifies the Pocesses fo a Pepess Wokflow System that poduces poofs, plates and peviews fo Conventional Pinting. This ICS coves only complete wokflow systems. It does not cove MIS systems that dive sepaate pepess applications, such as tapping engines. This ICS specifies Elements that compise a confoming JDF Instance, but does not discuss communication of JDF Instances. See [Pepess-AN], [MIS-ICS], [Base-ICS] and [JDF1.2] fo futhe infomation about JDF Instances and fo communication of JDF Instances. The ConventionalPinting ICS [CPS-ICS] descibes the exchange of infomation with Pess Contolles. Some output Resouces of a Pepess Wokflow System become input Resouces to a Pess Contolle. 1.2 Confomance Requiements This ICS defines only one Confomance Level, namely Level 1. To be confomant to this ICS, a MIS MUST confom to the Manage pat and a Pepess Wokflow System MUST confom to the Woke pat of: [Base-ICS] Level 1 [MIS-ICS] Level 1 o highe Section 3 Confomance Tables Gay Boxes Section 4 Confomance Tables Pocesses Section 5 Confomance Rules Resouces Section 6 Confomance Tables Resouces Section 7 Confomance Rules Pepess Nodes The infomation in this ICS is synchonized with the [PRECP-ICS] and [MISCPS-ICS]. See Appendix A How to Read ICS Documents in [Base-ICS] fo an explanation of Confomance Tables. 1.3 Histoy Vesion 1.01 includes addenda fo Appoval and SoftPoofing. The ICSVesion is NOT changed Backwads compatibility This vesion is backwads compatible since all changes ae optional Appoval Pocess: Implicit Vesus Explicit Vesion 1.0 of [MISPRE-ICS] does not specify any confomance ules fo the Appoval pocess. Howeve, even when the Appoval pocess is does not explicitly appea in Types, the Woke MUST assume that thee is an implicit Appoval pocess in thee contexts: 1) the Poof&PlateMaking Gay Box, 2) between the ImpositionPoofing and PlateMaking Gay Boxes when they have a common paent node, and 3) between the PagePoofing and PlateMaking Gay Boxes when they have a common paent node,. PlateMaking cannot stat befoe the Poofs ae appoved. Vesion 1.01 of [MISPRE-ICS] allows the Manage to explicitly specify an Appoval pocess in Types. This Appoval pocess specifies the pesons involved in the appoval and the pages that need appoval. If the Manage Page 6 of 48

doesn t specify an Appoval pocess, the Woke still causes an appoval to occu in same way as in Vesion 1.0, In paticula, the pesons and pages ae detemined by othe means Change List Added 2 new Gay Boxes: ImpositionSoftPoofing and PageSoftPoofing Added optional Appoval pocess to ImpositionPoofing, PagePoofing and Poof&PlateMaking Added additional esouces: ColoSpaceConvesionPaams and DigitalDeliveyPaams fo the ImpositionSoftPoofing and PageSoftPoofing pocesses. AppovalPaams and AppovalSuccess fo the Appoval pocess vaious elements fo AppovalPaams, AppovalSuccess and DigitalDeliveyPaams Added eata fo Table 32: ExposedMedia (Poof) because Manage MUST povide SignatueName as a value of PatIDKeys in the case of ImpositionPoofing o ImpositionSoftPoofing. Updated Figue 3: Complex Gay Box Wokflow with explicit Appoval pocess. 1.4 Teminology This section defines teminology used thoughout this document. Refeences to othe documents ae indicated with squae backets, e.g. [JDF1.2]. Fo most tems, see the Teminology section in [Base-ICS]. This section contains Pepess-elated tems that petain to this ICS: Abstact Pocess An abstact notion of a Pocess. Usually a Manage specifies an Abstact Pocess in the Types Attibute as it would specify a Pocess. A Woke expands the Abstact Pocess into multiple Pocesses. See Gay Boxes In this ICS, RIPing and PoofImaging ae Abstact Pocesses. In this ICS, the wod Pocess includes Abstact Pocess, unless othewise stated. Gay Box See the Teminology section in [MIS-ICS] MIS A system that communicates with a Pepess Wokflow System using JDF Instances and JMF Messages. The tem Manage efes to the MIS in this ICS. The MIS typically does not eceive JDF Instances back fom a Pepess Wokflow System. Populate a RunList to make the RunList/LayoutElement/FileSpec/@URL efeence a file that holds eithe a Document o Maks. Pepess Node A Pocess Goup Node whose Categoy Attibute is PePess. Such a Node contains pepess Pocesses and pepess Gay Boxes. Pepess Wokflow System A Device o Contolle that confoms to this ICS and consumes JDF Instances and JMF Messages defined heein. A Pepess Wokflow System is softwae and it may be pat of a Pepess device. The tem Woke efes to the Pepess Wokflow System in this ICS. A Pepess Wokflow System typically fowads its output Resouces to a Pess Contolle (see [CPS-ICS]. Pess Contolle A JDF Contolle (o Device) that contols a pinting pess. It communicates with MIS and a Pepess Wokflow System ICS Vesion The value of the [JDF1.2] ICSVesions Attibute fo this ICS is: MISPRE_L1-1.0 Page 7 of 48

2 Gay Boxes 2.1 Oveview Fo the Pepess secto, most MIS s do not have enough infomation to specify the Pepess paametes and Pocesses in detail. The MIS equiement fo sending patially specified JDF Instances to Pepess Wokflow Systems led to the invention of Gay Boxes. When the Pepess Wokflow System expands a Gay Box, it ceates new JDF Nodes. Each JDF Node equies a unique value fo its JobPatID. Fo details see [Base-ICS] 2.2 Gay Box Examples Figue 1: PlateMaking Gay Box Page 8 of 48

Figue 2: Simple Gay Box Wokflow No Poofs, only Plate and Peview ceation. MIS supplies numbe of pages, Sepaation and Media infomation. The opeato selects the Imposition template. Figue 3: Complex Gay Box Wokflow Poof, Plate and Peview ceation. MIS povides numbe of Pages, Stipping, Sepaation and Media infomation. Fist, ceates an Imposition Poof. If appoved, stats the Plate ceation. Note: some wokflow systems can combine ImpositionRIPing and ImageSetting into a PlateMaking GB. Gay Box offe simplicity. Sepaate Pocess Nodes allow moe contol and geate specification of details than Gay Boxes, such as scheduling single Pocesses. 3 Confomance Tables Gay Boxes This section specifies Confomance Tables fo the seven Gay Boxes. See Appendix A How to Read ICS Documents in [Base-ICS] fo an explanation of Confomance Tables. Each subsection specifies one Gay Box with a few notes and two Confomance Tables: one fo input Resouces and anothe fo output Resouces. The notes include a shot desciption of the action associated with the Gay Box and the value of the Types Attibute, which chaacteizes the Gay Box. Table 1 below also specifies the Types Attibute and gives moe infomation about the action. Fo Content Pepaation, a Manage (MIS) must supply a PePessPepaation Gay Box Fo Layout Pepaation, a Manage (MIS) must supply exactly one of the following GB ImpositionPepaation o Stipping Pocess Page 9 of 48

Fo Plate Poduction, a Manage must supply exactly one of the following Gay Boxes GB ImpositionRIPing (along with the ImageSetting Pocess), o GB PlateMaking, o GB Poof&PlateMaking Fo Imposition Poof Poduction, a Manage must supply exactly one of the following Gay Boxes GB ImpositionPoofing, o GB Poof&PlateMaking Fo Page Poof Poduction, a Manage must supply exactly one of the following Gay Boxes GB PagePoofing Fo Imposition Soft Poof Poduction, a Manage must supply exactly one of the following Gay Boxes GB ImpositionSoftPoofing Fo Page Soft Poof Poduction, a Manage must supply exactly one of the following Gay Boxes GB PageSoftPoofing Table 1 descibes the Gay Boxes in this ICS. The fomat of Table 1 is simila to a Confomance Table except fo the fist two columns: Gay Box Name: the name that this ICS uses to efeence the Gay Box. It has no specific countepat as the value of a JDF Attibute o as a tem used in [JDF1.2]. Categoy/Types: the value of the Categoy and Types Attibutes. The value of the Types Attibute is below the sepaato line. Its value uniquely specifies the Gay Box. The value of the Categoy Attibute is at the top of the cell and above the sepaato line. Its value povides a quick hint to the Woke about the possible values of the Types Attibute and thus the categoy of the Gay Box. If some of the Types values ae optional, the Manage and Woke columns have specific values fo each Type Note: fo backwads compatibility, a Woke s suppot is optional fo the Appoval pocess in Gay Boxes aleady defined in the MIS Pepess ICS. Table 1: Gay Boxes Gay Box Name Categoy/Types Manage Woke Desciption ImpositionPepaation ImpositionPepaation ImpositionPepaation w?
