System configuation and commissioning with RTU 2.3 Commissioning with Modbus RTU Baud ate: The baud ate of SIMOCODE po V Modbus can be set in the ange fom kbps. The paamete setting "auto" activates automatic baud ate detection with which the device autonomously detemines the setting selected by the contolle. Automatic baud ate seach encompasses baud ates in the ange fom kbps. Note Automatic baud ate detection Use of this function is only possible when the "Watchdog" function is activated. Idle time: Messages begin and end with a tansmission beak of at least 3.5 chaactes. The shotest idle time depends on the baud ate. The following table shows the default values: Bits pe second (bps) Shotest idle time (ms) Baud ate (detected): Infomation about the detected baud ate, if automatic baud ate detection (baud ate = auto) is set. Modbus addess: Setting the Modbus addess fo the SIMOCODE device. The addess can be set in the ange fom As supplied, the addess fo SIMOCODE po V devices is set to the default value of 126 Pot configuation: The numbe of stop bits and the selected paity of the Modbus inteface can be set hee. The following settings ae possible: 8E1-1 stop bit, even paity 8O1-1 stop bit, odd paity 8N2-2 stop bits, no paity 8N1-1 stop bit, no paity Wait time / wait time (default value): The time duation of the pause between a eceived equest and the eply fom SIMOCODE po can be set with the "Wait time" and "Wait time (default value)" paametes. If the default value of the Modbus specification is to be used, selection of the "Wait time (default value)" paamete is ecommended. The "Wait time" paamete is available fo fee setting. The setting is made in ms. The smallest settable value coesponds to the default value of the Modbus specification. If longe wait times ae equied, these can be defined using the "Wait time" paamete. Configuation Manual, 04/2015, A5E A/RS-AA/001 17

System configuation and commissioning with RTU 2.3 Commissioning with Modbus RTU Watchdog / Watchdog time: Monitoing of the bus communication can be activated with these paametes. This is necessay when automatic baud ate detection is selected, o if the SIMOCODE device wee to expeience a fault if the bus communication fails. If the watchdog is activated, SIMOCODE monitos whethe a valid ead o wite access to the device occus within the set watchdog time. If this is not the case, SIMOCODE begins a new seach fo a valid baud ate if automatic ate detection is set. In addition, a "Fault - bus" is geneated if the "Watchdog Bus monitoing" paamete is also activated. Bus and contolle monitoing on Modbus With the SIMOCODE po V Modbus basic unit, both the bus communication and the contolle function can be monitoed. The functions "Bus monitoing" and "PLC / PCS monitoing" ae available fo this pupose. The functionality diffes slightly fom that descibed in the SIMOCODE po PROFIBUS system manual. Bus monitoing: With this type of monitoing, the "Fault - bus" fault is geneated if "Bus monitoing" is active In the "Remote" opeating mode (mode selecto S1 = 1 and S2 = 1), cyclic data access to Modbus egistes between the PLC and SIMOCODE po is inteupted fo longe than the set bus monitoing time, e.g. as the esult of an inteuption of the Modbus connection. The "Status - bus o. k." can always be evaluated. If SIMOCODE po is cyclically exchanging data with the PLC, "Status - Bus o. k." is set to "1". PLC / PCS monitoing: With this type of monitoing, the "Fault - PLC/PCS" message is geneated if "PLC/PCS monitoing" is active The input "PLC/PCS monitoing - input" switches to logic zeo when in the "Remote" opeating mode (mode selecto S1=1 and S2=1). "PLC/PCS monitoing - input" is connected pefeably with the bit "Cyclic eceive - bit 0.7". The status "PLC/PCS in Run" can always be evaluated. If SIMOCODE po is in cyclic data exchange with the PLC, and the input "PLC/PCS monitoing" is set, "PLC/PCS in Run" is set to "1". You can find the futhe desciption of the function block "Watchdog" (PLC/PCS monitoing) in the SIMOCODE po PROFIBUS System Manual ( 18 Configuation Manual, 04/2015, A5E A/RS-AA/001

Communication Modbus RTU Modbus RTU communication Modbus RTU (Remote Teminal Unit) is a standad potocol fo netwok communication and uses the electical RS485 connection fo seial data tansmission between Modbus devices in the netwok. Modbus RTU uses a maste/slave netwok in which the entie communication is tiggeed by only one maste device while the slaves can only espond to the equest of the maste. The maste sends a equest to a slave addess and only this slave addess esponds to the command (exception: boadcast fames to slave addess 0 which ae not acknowledged by the slaves) Suppoted data tansfe ates fo RTU SIMOCODE po suppots the following data tansfe ates in Modbus RTU mode: 300 baud 600 baud 1,200 baud 2,400 baud 4,800 baud 9,600 baud 19,200 baud (default setting) 57,600 baud. Configuation Manual, 04/2015, A5E A/RS-AA/001 21

Communication 3.1 Modbus RTU Assignment of SIMOCODE data to Modbus addesses All SIRIUS data ae available in datasets o in the pocess image: System datasets Datasets specific to a device subfamily Poduct-specific datasets. To be addessable via Modbus, the data in these datasets o in this pocess image ae conveted to Modbus data fomats. Data access to Read-only bits Read/wite bits Read-only datasets and wods (16-bit) Read/wite datasets and wods Data type accoding to Modbus nomenclatue Discete inputs Coils Input egistes Holding egistes 1 coil coesponds to 1 bit. 1 egiste coesponds to 1 wod (2 bytes) Modbus data tansfe Pinciple of Modbus data tansfe In contast to cyclic/acyclic data tansfe in the PROFIBUS bus system, the data ae tansfeed linealy using the Modbus potocol. The maste is an automation system (PLC). The slave is a SIMOCODE po device. The maste takes the initiative in the data tansfe. SIMOCODE po woks as a slave and supplies the coesponding feedback signals to the bits/egistes called up by the maste, o it accepts the bits/egistes witten by the maste into the intenal SIMOCODE memoy. The maste sends equests to one o moe slaves. The slave pocesses the equests of the maste and esponds within a cetain time with an acknowledgment, o with the equested data, o an eo code if applicable. The equests contain the function code and additional data. The data can only be tansfeed between the maste and a slave. Requests cannot be tansfeed between slaves. A slave cannot tansfe any infomation, e.g. alams, autonomously to the maste. This always equies continuous polling of the coesponding bit by the maste. 22 Configuation Manual, 04/2015, A5E A/RS-AA/001

Communication 3.1 Modbus RTU Options fo data tansfe The following figue shows the data tansfe options: Figue 3-1 Options fo data tansfe fame stuctue The data exchange "Maste Slave" and/o the coesponding esponse "Slave Maste" begins with the slave addess, followed by the function code. Following this, the data ae tansfeed. The stuctue of the data field depends on the function code used. The CRC check is tansmitted at the end of the fame. The esponse fame fom the slave to the maste contains the same slave addess and the same function code. The data aea is filled accoding to the equested data. Slave addess Function code DATA CRC-CHECK 1 byte 1 byte n bytes 2 bytes Slave addess: This addess is used to addess a defined slave on the bus. Standad addess: 1 to 247 Function code: Defines the slave function desied by the fame DATA = fame data: Function-code-dependent administation data and net data. When tansfeing the egiste data, the high byte is always tansfeed fist, followed by the low byte, in accodance with the Modbus specification. CRC CHECK = fame checksum: The end of the fame is identified by the CRC-16 checksum of two bytes in length, Configuation Manual, 04/2015, A5E A/RS-AA/001 23

Communication 3.1 Modbus RTU End of fame The end of fame is ecognized when no tansmission takes place duing the time peiod equied fo the tansmission of thee and a half chaactes (3.5 times chaacte delay time) (see Modbus Potocol Refeence Guide). Exception esponses On ecognition of an eo in the equest fame fom the maste (illegal egiste addess, fo example), the slave sets the highest value bit in the function code of the esponse fame (that is, the equested function code + 80h). This step is followed by tansmission of a byte with the exception code that descibes the cause of the eo. Fo details: See Eo codes (Page 35) SIMOCODE po function codes Geneal Definition of function code The function code defines the meaning of the message fame. The fame stuctue is also defined by the function code. Oveview of the function codes The table below povides an oveview of the suppoted function codes. Which of these ae suppoted by SIMOCODE po depends on the stat addess (see Section Modbus data tables (Page 37)). 25 Communication 3.1 Modbus RTU Access to memoy aeas In SIMOCODE po, only two memoy aeas ae used, one each fo addessing the bit infomation and the egiste infomation. The function codes fo bit infomation (01, 02, 05, 15) thus always access the bit memoy aea. The function codes fo egiste infomation (03, 04, 06, 16, 23) always access the egiste memoy aea. The distinction as to whethe infomation is ead-only () o ead/witeable (/w), can be seen fom the dataset tables (see Section Modbus data tables (Page 37)). Figue 3-2 Memoy aeas used in SIMOCODE po Configuation Manual, 04/2015, A5E A/RS-AA/001 25

Communication 3.1 Modbus RTU Function codes 01 - Read Coils and 02 - Read Discete Inputs Function These functions enable the Modbus maste system to ead individual bits fom the SIMOCODE po bit memoy aea. Functions codes 01 and 02 behave in the same way hee and supply an identical feedback signal. A valid offset fom the bit memoy aea is expected as the stat addess. Up to 2000 bits can be ead pe fame. If a numbe that is not equal to a multiple of eight bits is called up, the emaining bits ae filled with zeos. The numbe of bytes n always efes to the numbe of fully etuned bytes.
