3 Overview This section provides an introduction to the Human Resources IPEDS Submissions process and reporting functionality. This includes: Log in procedure Running reports Exporting reports to Excel Drill down to report details Appendix A Additional documentation Page 3

Log in Procedure 1. Click on or copy and paste this link into your browser: https://analytics.usg.edu/cognos/cgi-bin/cognos.cgi 2. You are prompted for a Cognos login. 3.

If you do not have a Cognos User ID and Password, please ask the HR POC at your institution to contact the Help Desk (helpdesk@usg.edu) to request them for you. Page 4

5 5. The Cognos Dashboard is displayed. From here, you can access all Parts of the IPEDS HR 2018 Survey. Please note: If you do not see the Cognos Dashboard as displayed in the screenshot below, please see Appendix A on page 12 for instructions on how to add the HR Tab to Cognos. In addition to using the link on page 4 to get to this page, you may also click the Home icon, then click Set View as Home to make this page your starting point each time. Page 5

6 Running Reports 1. Click on one of the reports listed below IPEDS HR 2018 Survey Reports. For example, Part A Full-time instructional staff (1-5) Page 6

7 2. The following drop down lists will appear. 3. Select your Institution from the dropdown list 4. Select the Section from the dropdown list 5. Click Finish Page 7

8 6. A report that matches the criteria chosen in the dropdown lists will be displayed. Page 8

9 Exporting Reports Reports may be exported into HTML, PDF, XML or Excel format. 1. Click the down arrow on the HTML icon circled in red above. Choose the option for the export format of the report (HTML, PDF, XML or Excel). 2. When View in Excel Options is chosen, there are options for Excel 2007 Data, Excel 2007, Excel 2002 or CSV format. 3. Hold down the Ctrl key and click the export option at the same time this is to bypass any popup blocker you may have installed. The following screen will be displayed (if you are using Internet Explorer): Page 9

10 4. Click Open. 5. Once the Excel workbook is displayed, select Save As to save the Excel file to a specific location on your computer or network, as you normally would. Page 10

11 Drill Down to Report Details Reports may be drilled down to display the details that make up a specific number. 1. For example, to see the details of the 9 White Female Associate professors on the report above, click on the 9 hyperlink. 2. A new window will open that shows all of the details for those 9 faculty. This detailed report may also be exported into HTML, PDF, XML or Excel. (See page 9 for more information.) Page 11

12 Appendix A How to add the HR Tab to Cognos When you first log into Cognos, you may see a blank screen like this: Click on the symbol in the top left corner and select Add tabs Page 12

The next screen shows two levels, Public Folders and My Folders.

Click on the Public Folders tab. Click on the Public Folders tab and you will see a G2I subfolder.

Place a checkmark next to both of them and click on the green arrow in the center to move the folders to the right, then click the ok button at the very bottom left of your screen. Now the screen will refresh and show you the tabs you just added, Public folders and My Folders. Click on the Public Folders tab. Click on the Public Folders tab and you will see a G2I subfolder. Continue drilling down as follows, until you see HR UDS Content : G2I > G2I Content > UDS > HR > Navigation > Navigation Pages > Place a check mark in the box next to HR UDS Content Page 13

Content will appear and click on the symbol.

14 Look over to the right side of your screen, mouse over the middle symbol under Actions until the text Add to my portal tabs HR UDS Content will appear and click on the symbol. The screen will refresh and you can now see an additional tab called HR UDS Content Page 14

15 Click on the HR UDS Content tab. Finally, set this page as your Home Page. Click on the arrow next to the house symbol and select Set View as Home. Your future home page in Cognos is now set, and you will see a screen similar to the one below. Page 15
