This is another installment in the series of training modules instructing faculty and staff in the use of the Ensemble Content Management System. In this module, I ll demonstrate how to insert an image into pages and briefs. 1
An inline object refers to any content item that can be displayed within another content item. An image is an inline object. This is an example of an Ext Image content item that has been inserted into a brief. For this demonstration I will insert the Ext Image, airblast sprayer in the Ext Brief, Private Pesticide Applicator Recertification. 2
Of course before you can insert an image into a page or brief, you must have saved the image as an Ext Image content item in the CMS. The module, entitled Inserting an Image explains how to do that. So the first step to insert an image is to confirm that the image you plan to insert is in the Public State. Next, open a Content Editor window for the Ext Brief content or Ext General Content page that you want to edit. To do that right click the content item and select edit in the drop down menu. 3
Click the body field in the Content Editor window to load the Editlive editor. 4
Expand the field if required, and place the cursor in the location where you would like to insert the image. So if you want the image to be to the left of the text, place your cursor before the start of the next. If you want the image at the right of the text, put your cursor at the end of the text. Then, from the menu choose Insert > Insert Inline Image. 5
A Content Search window opens. You can conduct a very simple search that will return multiple images or an advanced search that returns fewer or even a single image. 6
Enter values in the fields to define your search criteria and click Search. In this example we have entered the title of the image and limited the search to Ext Image content items. 7
The Content Search window refreshes with the search results. 8
Resize the window. There are eight display options for an Ext Image with that title. The variations provide options to display an image aligned centered, left, or right and displayed with and without a caption. From the search results, you can also confirm that the image is in the Public State. We ll make our selection of Image (left) to place the image left of the text and then we will click Add. 9
The image is inserted in the body field. Note that the Editlive editor is not a WYSIWYG editor, so it does not show the alignment of the image on the page or brief. Click Save and then close the Content Editor window. 10
If you like, preview the page or brief by clicking on the content item and selecting Preview > S Brief in the action menu. 11
Based on our settings, this is how the image will look in the Ext Brief. Close the preview when you are ready to move on to the next step. 12
Finally, transition your page or brief to the Public State by clicking on the content item and selecting Workflow > Send to Public in the action menu.. 13
After setting the content item state back to public, the Ext Brief with the image will be updated on the next incremental site publishing cycle. 14
Let s review how to delete an image from a page or brief. First open the content editor for the item. In this example we are opening the Recertification Ext Brief content item. 15
Double click on the image in the Body field. Click Ok when the Image Properties dialog opens. 16
An Inline Template Actions dialog box will appear. Select Delete Inline Template and click OK. 17
Finally, click Yes to confirm your request to delete the item. 18
The image is removed from the body field. 19
Click Save and then close the Content Editor window. 20
To activate that change you will need to transition the page or brief to the Public State. 21
Now we see the Ext Brief content item without the image. The changes to the content item are published on the next incremental site publishing cycle. 22
If you have questions about this module, contact your District AIT or use one of the other resources found on this page. 23
