3 Introduction The term Main Dashboard is commonly used to describe the homepage you arrive at when you first login to Arbor. Arbor s Main Dashboard provides a great overview on all the different sections within the MIS. Alongside with users calendar and key events, the dashboard also shows the school s analytics; Attendance, Behaviour and Attainment for the year to date. It also provides a number of Quick Actions shortcuts and Favourite Links to access various key areas quickly through one click rather than the longer route of using the Students or School menus at the top of the page. Top Tips are highlighted throughout the guide with 2

5 The Dashboard The Top Bar The top bar of Arbor can be seen throughout the system. Clicking on the school logo will bring you back to the main dashboard, regardless of where you are on the system. The Menu The 4 menu options at the top of the dashboard load different areas of the system; My Items - Each user will have access to their own data, calendar, assessments etc. Students - In this section the user will load all the modules that are directly linked to students like Behaviour, Interventions etc. School - Here the user will have access to all the modules that have to do with the schools structure and setup like Timetable, Staff Members etc. System - This menu option is very limited for non Arbor employees and allows the school to give API access or set User Defined Fields. 4

6 Notifications Any notifications the user might receive will appear in the speech bubble next to the Arbor logo. The help button will direct all users to Arbor s Help Centre, here you will be able to locate our useful articles, guides and updates. 5

7 If you are seeing a lot of notifications you can quickly clear these by clicking on the My Items navigation at the top of the page. Follow My Items > My Account and click on the green Clear Notifications button on the left hand side of the page. Search Bar The search bar at the top right allows the user to locate the profiles of individuals and groups in the system. These include students, staff, and parents, as well as academic groups such as forms, years, and courses. We suggest using the search bar over the menus whenever possible, to save time. 6

8 Quick Actions The Q uick Actions bar gives you a list of specific tasks that you can perform (depending on your permissions) without having to browse to a module. This includes: Taking Attendance Logging a behavioural incident Adding behaviour points Create an event Send a message via /sms Issue a detention Arranging an intervention 7

9 Favourite Links The Favourite Links displays specific modules, within Arbor, that the user can access by clicking once (access to these will be dependent on the users permissions). Calendar Within calendar, the user can view their events for the day, from lessons to meetings. Clicking on the event will open the session dashboard, from which key details and registers can be accessed. 8

10 Announcements The announcements area loads any active notices/announcements the school has created. This is usually used to remind/advise staff members of an important event or approaching deadline. For example Sports day will be held on June 5th. To add an announcement the school can just click on the announcement bar. The page will load any current/historic/archived notices and allows the user to create a new one (Depending on the users permission) Clicking on Create New Notice will load a slide over, add the notice description and date/time the notice should be active for. (Announcements can also be created following School > Communications > Notices) 9

11 Attendance Key Performance Indicators The Attendance section of Dashboard displays six KPIs which provide an overview of currently enrolled students' attendance at present. The figures show the total current enrolled students in School, a percentage statistic for statutory, authorised and unauthorised attendance, late and persistent attendees. To review a KPI in more detail, click on it to bring up further analytics information. 10

12 Once clicked, a new page is displayed listing academic groups, custom groups, and demographics, and presenting the respective percentage statistics for the selected KPI. You can change how the list is ordered by clicking a column header, e.g. to see the group with the highest average across the year. At the top of the panel is a filter bar where you can select from the groups in the system to view the KPIs through multiple demographics and filters (e.g. Year 10 SEN students taught by Mr May) 11

13 You can quickly filter the list presented by clicking All Student Groups and selecting which groups you wish to review and compare. The statistics are shown for a daily and yearly basis. 12

14 An alternative way of reviewing progress data for the selected KPI is to select whether to review data by groups or students. The top-right tabs allow users to switch views and analyse statistics corresponding to individual students. Each data statistic that is returned when working on the Dashboard KPI or when filtering through the side panel can be viewed in a tooltip window when hovering your mouse onto the particular data cell, explaining how the data has been derived. 13

15 Behaviour Key Performance Indicators The Behaviour section of the Main Dashboard comes second on the page. It displays a number of KPIs which provides an overview of student behaviour data. The figures show statistics for all sets of behaviour points (if set up), temporary and permanent exclusions, as well as negative behavioural incidents. Remember that the KPIs for Behaviour will only display if a school uses the Behaviour module and are entering data on a regular basis. To review a KPI in more detail, click on it to bring up further analytics information. 14

18 Attainment Key Performance Indicators The Attainment section of the Main Dashboard is at the bottom of the page. It displays three KPIs which provide an up to date overview of currently enrolled students' progress this academic year. The figures show the percentage of students who are overall at, below, or above their set targets. Remember that the KPIs for Attainment will only display if a school has set up the Assessment module and are entering data on a regular basis. To review a KPI in more detail, click on it to bring up further analytics information. 21 Arbor Top Tips Duplicating Tabs Arbor is a web based application, which means all the functionality of your browser can be used to help you! (this is one of the reasons we strongly recommend users work in Google Chrome) In Chrome, you just need to right click your current browser tab and click Duplicate Tab. Duplicating tabs allows you to continue working on another part of the system whilst not losing your current work, or allows you to compare data on two separate pages at the same time! 20

22 Saving Favourite Tabs. Saving a page that you have to visit everyday as a bookmark in your browser will save you a few menu clicks every time you need to check it. Remember, every click saved saves you more time! 21

23 Searching within Arbor. If you know what you are looking for, always use Arbor s powerful searching functionality. Start typing in any search bar, and a drop down will suggest what groups or individuals you may be looking for. 22

24 Using the Top Navigation Effectively Arbor s top navigation is permissioned by business role. The more permissions you have, the more you ll see. There are four sections: 1. My Items Your personal items 2. Students All student and guardian information 3. School All school and staff information 4. System System settings If you are on a page in Arbor, you do not have to return to the home page to navigate around the system; simply use the top navigation. The more you use the system, the more you ll get to know these different menus, and it will be easy to find your way to a page even if you haven t used it before. 23

25 Using Back If you right click when selecting the back button, you can choose the specific page you want to return to. 24

26 Multi Selecting in Grids When viewing a grid with boxes down the left hand side, you can tick these boxes, then the little blue pencil above them, to perform any bulk actions available. For instance, in a lesson you can assign students to a detention in bulk, or in Custom Report Writer you can delete templates in bulk. You can either select cells individually, or you can click and drag. Search the helpdesk! Our final top tip is to go to the helpdesk at support.arbor-education.com, or in the top right of your Arbor site at any time. Here all users can find FAQs, written guides, video tutorials, and free online training schedules, so you can learn however suits you best. 25
