4 Introduction Introduction Introduction This release guide documents the Student Self-Service 9.5 release enhancements which include the following. Enhanced name functionality Student attendance tracking page moved into Student Self-Service Option to display a default landing page or other self-service page as the application landing page Extensibility in student attendance tracking page Theme editor Google Analytics About feature Enhancements to the view grades page support for study path Important changes with this release The Banner Student Attendance Tracking 9.3 release, now exists as a stand-alone application, which consists of two self-service pages (Faculty Attendance Tracking and Mark Attendance) that allow faculty to view their classes and take attendance. The portion of Banner Student Attendance Tracking 9.2 that was the Student Attendance Tracking Self-Service page has been merged into a consolidated application called Banner Student Self-Service 9.5. Student Self-Service 9.5 also includes the Student Profile, View Grades, and Class List pages. The portion of Banner Student Attendance Tracking 9.2 that was the Faculty Attendance Administrative pages is now included with the Banner Student Administrative Pages 9.3 release (or later) will give you all of the newly transformed Banner Student pages. Ellucian recommends this option. If you have already installed the Attendance Tracking 9.2 Administrative application, you will still have access to the two Attendance Tracking-specific pages (Attendance Tracking Rule Setup Page (SOAATRK) and Attendance Tracking Meeting Rule Setup Page (SOAATMT). Use Ellucian Solution Manager to install your product upgrades Ellucian recommends that you use Ellucian Solution Manager to perform Banner product upgrades, rather than using a manual installation process. 5 Introduction Identify dependency information within and between products. View the latest version numbers for the Banner products you have installed, along with all other version numbers installed in your environment. Use the Get New Releases feature to identify available upgrades and download them immediately. Identify and install product pre-requisites, along with any upgrades you have selected. Solution Manager currently supports most Banner 8 and 9 products. For more information on the Banner product versions currently supported by Solution Manager, see the Banner Upgrades Support Status guide. 6 Enhancements Enhancements Enhancements This section describes the functional and technical enhancements made in this release. Enhanced name functionality Banner General provides the foundation of a new approach to formatting names. Student Self- Service 9.5 can now build on this foundation. It is important to be aware that other applications will be making use of this functionality and may be adding default formatting information that may impact Student Self-Service. More information about setting up the name formatting can be found in the General release documentation. Student attendance tracking page moved into student-self service The Student Attendance Tracking page has been moved into Student Self-Service with this release. Pages which are internal to Student Self-Service include: Student Attendance Tracking, Student Profile, Student Common Dashboard (that is the default landing page), View Grades, and Class List (for faculty). Option to display a default landing page or other self-service page as the application landing page In Student Self-Service, a new Web Tailor parameter has been created that allows for the configuration of a landing page. The landing page can be set to a newly delivered default landing page with customizable text or another already existing self-service page. For more details on how to set this up, please see the Banner Student Self-Service 9.5 Handbook. Extensibility in student attendance tracking page The student attendance tracking page is extensible in the following ways. Within the Side Detail section, the Getting Started, Course Details, and Attendance tabs can be reordered. The Getting Started, Course Details, and Attendance tabs can be hidden Ellucian. 7 Enhancements Within the Course Details and Attendance tabs, any of the delivered fields can be hidden. The order of the fields can be changed. The text labels can be changed. Within the grid on the student attendance tracking page, the fields can be hidden and the order of the fields can be changed. Within the grid, the column labels and tooltip text cannot be changed. Theme editor The theme editor is a tool that allows for the creation of themes containing the institution s colors and logo for Banner Self-Service applications. Themes are created one time and apply across the application. For detailed information on how to install and create themes using Theme Editor, see the Banner Extensibility Theme Editor Installation Guide 9.0. Google Analytics Google Analytics can now be enabled in the application to allow tracking of the pages. Google Analytics tracks page views, allowing monitoring utilization, error rates, failure cases, and so on. Analytics can monitor web and mobile applications. For details on enabling this feature, please see the section on Google Analytics in the Banner Student Self-Service 9.5 Installation Guide. About feature Clicking the About item in the Tools menu will display the About dialog box which shows the name and version number of the application. View Grades page enhancements The View Grades page allows students and advisors to view student grades and assist students with academic decisions. This page has been enhanced so that students can view the grades for courses specific to a Study Path. Banner Student Self-Service 9.5 release includes the following enhancements that are delivered for the View Grades page. 1. Students can select a Study Path from the Study Path drop down field in View Grades page. To support this enhancement, the Study Path drop-down list is added to the View Grades page Ellucian. 8 Enhancements This field displays the Student s Study Path options that are available. Students can select the desired Study Path from the drop-down list. The following options available for students to select: All Courses Courses with No Study Path Study Path values associated with the student s courses 2. The Study Path field is visible only if the Process GPA by Study Path check box is selected in the Academic History Control (SHACTRL) page. 3. Students can select a Study Path to view the GPA calculations by Study Path for the selected term and selected level in the View Grades page. 4. Students can select a Study Path to view the courses available for the selected Study Path in the View Grades page. 5. The Study Path displayed in the drop-down is formatted based on the configuration made by the institution in the Curriculum Rules Control (SOACTRL) page. Refer to Banner Student Self-Service Handbook 9.5 to know more about the options and features that are available in the View Grades enhancements. Note: Please note that the Process GPA by Study Path control has been added to the Academic History Control (SHACTRL) page in Banner Student If you want to enable this control, you will need to be on Banner Student Administrative Application ver Ellucian.
