4 Introduction Introduction Introduction This release guide provides an overview of the Banner General 9.3 release. Banner Admin Pages deployment overview The Banner General 9.3 release is part of the Banner Admin Pages 9.3 release, which delivers transformed Banner administrative pages as a Java web application. These pages were previously delivered as individual forms built on Oracle Forms and were referred to as Internet Native Banner (INB). The change in the delivery mechanism of Banner pages applies to products such as Banner General, Banner Finance, Banner Human Resources, Banner Position Control, Banner Document Management, Banner Document Retention, and localization products built on the baseline products. The release is delivered as a group of Banner upgrade release packages, one package for each baseline product and one for each localization product. All release packages can be downloaded, installed, and deployed with Ellucian Solution Manager (ESM). Banner Admin Pages is deployed with ESM as a single web application, to either a Weblogic or Tomcat web application server. The web application is assembled from the components delivered and installed for each product at the time of deployment. This deployment approach allows you to download and install only the products that you have licensed and installed, yet still deploy as a single web application. This structure also facilitates Ellucian with providing updates to each product independently in the future. As updates are provided for a product, the updates can be independently installed and the Banner Admin Pages application can be deployed with the latest installed versions of each product. For more information about the installation and deployment of Banner Administrative Pages 9.3, see the Banner Administrative Pages 9.3 Installation Guide included in the General 9.3 release package and the Installation Reference document included in each product s release package. Warning! The new Administrative Pages application replaces the previously released XE (ZK) administrative applications. The Banner XE pages that used ZK technology have been transformed to Java pages. The new functionality that the Banner XE pages introduced will continue to be provided in the transformed Administrative Pages 9.3 version of the pages. While testing at each institution may vary, some of the additional test cases Ellucian recommends include testing the basic components and functionality of a page, testing overall navigation, executing a filter query, transitioning between different views on the page, changing browsers, changing browser languages, and printing. The Banner General 9.3 release enables seamless integration across the applications licensed by your institution and included in the Banner Administrative Pages 9.3 release. 6 System requirements System requirements System requirements The Banner General 9.3 release supports the baseline and localized versions of the application. Please refer to the Banner Administrative Pages Installation Guide 9.3 and the Banner General 9.3 Installation Reference for the minimum system requirements. Language deliveries In line with the Banner XE strategy, the language translations for UI labels and error messages ship and install as part of the General Transformation 9.3 deliveries. General 9.3 delivers translations for the following languages: Arabic English Australia English India English Ireland English UK or GB French (Canada) French (France) Spanish Spanish (Latin America) Spanish (Mexican) Portuguese Portuguese (Brazil) You can change the UI language for General 9.3 pages by changing your browser locale to one of the supported languages. To install a full Banner 9 language system, the Banner 8 language releases for a specific language need to be installed on top of the Banner 8 Baseline prerequisite releases specified below. Installation References Each release package is accompanied by an installation reference, which is a companion to the Banner Admin Pages Installation Guide 9.2 and provides a list of prerequisites. Banner General Release Guide 9.3 This release guide provides an overview of the Banner General 9.3 release. Banner XE Sizing and Configuration Guide This guide provides you with details about the hardware systems that are required for Banner 9.x applications and how to configure those systems. Application Navigator Installation Guide 1.4 This guide provides an overview of the purpose of Application Navigator and how it works. Banner Document Management Supplement for Banner 9.x Pages This guide provides information about the Banner Document Management (BDM) integration when accessing either ApplicationXtender Web Access or ApplicationXtender Document Manager from a Banner 9.x page. It also provides information regarding some of the known differences with the BDM integration in relationship to Banner 8 forms integration. 8 Extensibility Extensibility Extensibility With Banner General 9.3 you have an extensibility tool set available that allows you to easily make modifications to your system. Banner extensibility tools enable you to make changes to the Banner 9.x application without having to change the Ellucian source code. Custom modifications Your institution may have made custom modifications to your General system. Ellucian provides an automated assessment process that will determine the level of transformation effort for your Oracle Forms modifications and customizations. The automated analysis determines the complexity and level of effort to retain the modifications as extensions to the transformed pages. In addition, it provides an assessment of the level of effort to transform your custom forms. The assessment process is at no cost, and it will be accessible through your Ellucian Hub login. You will get an output of the assessment to determine next steps. Note: Modifications to Banner Self-Service remains a manual effort Ellucian. Confidential & Proprietary 8

CR Name Display Rules CR Modify GUAABOT to display 9.x information CR Name Display Rules Banner General delivered a new Oracle form and functions that support the requirements for various Banner Student XE Self-Service applications and the General-Event Management XE Self- Service application to configure how a student s name is displayed in those pages. The Banner General 9.3 release delivers the transformed Name Display Rules (GUANDSP) page. The functionality delivered with this release: Will only be used by Banner Student XE Self-Service and the General-Event Management XE applications Will not change any name searching, formatting or masking capabilities in Banner 8.x (neither INB nor SSB) Will be adopted by the Student XE Self-Service and General-Event Management XE Self- Service applications in a phased approach as new releases provide the capability to use it As more XE applications adopt the ability to reference the rules built in the new Name Display Rules (GUANDSP) page, those applications will provide additional instructions about how to enter the correct data in the page. Name Display Rules (GUANDSP) page You can use this page to enable authorized users to create and maintain rules to define how names should be formatted. This page contains four tabs. Single tab This tab allows you to define a set of rules with up to 99 steps per usage to return a single format for a person's name. Multiple tab This tab allows you to define a rule that enables an array of names to be returned instead of just one Ellucian. Confidential & Proprietary 9

10 Change request enhancements Hierarchy tab This tab allows you to define a set of hierarchy rules that should be followed to get a USAGE rule to be used on a certain set of pages as defined by Product, Application, Page, and Section. Test Rules tab This tab allows you to test the rules as you are creating them. For more information on the field descriptions of this page and how to use them, refer to Banner General Online Help and Banner General User Guide 9.3. CR Modify GUAABOT to display 9.x information The transformed About Banner (GUAABOT) page has been modified to include 9.x application information. The GUAABOT page now displays both 8.x and 9.x information Ellucian. Confidential & Proprietary 10

11 Technical Technical Technical This release is being delivered to transform Banner General from Oracle Forms to Java pages. This software utilizes open source resources like Java, SOAP, XML, Spring Security, HTML/CSS, and Frames Framework. The functionality of the application remains the same, however, the user interface has changed to be consistent with the appearance of Banner applications built using the XE technology. The underlying technology for transformation applications is not the same as the technology used for XE applications, but the user interface is consistent. With the Banner General 9.3 release, there are no changes to your data. The underlying platform features, such as Oracle security, Banner security features, and Value Based Security (VBS) for Personally Identifiable Information (PII), remain Ellucian. 12 Resolutions Resolutions Resolutions A Resolution Report contains comprehensive and detailed resolution information for a release. Each change request has a listed URL. Copy and paste the URL into a web browser to see more details about the change request on the Ellucian Support Center. 13 Known issues Known issues Known issues Using a filter on the Change Request tab in the Ellucian Support Center, you can produce a list of the current known issues in Banner General 9.3 release. Procedure 1. In the Ellucian Support Center, click the Change Requests tab. 2. Select All Change Requests Defects from the drop-down list. 3. Click Filter Change Requests. 4. Select the arrow next to the Product Line column heading and select Is equal to. 5. Enter Banner and click Filter. 6. Click the arrow next to the Product column heading and select Is equal to. 7. Enter General and click Filter. 8. Click the arrow next to the Found in Version column heading, enter 9.3, and click Filter. Results The resulting Change Requests displayed are the current known issues for the General 9.3 release Ellucian. Confidential & Proprietary 13
