1 Place Survey Mosaic Indicator PlanWeb is a simple mapping tool available to all staff and partners. This Geographical Information System (GIS) is available free through the Lincolnshire Research Observatory This user guide should help you use the Place Survey Mosaic tool within Planweb; for more information on the other functions and capabilities of Planweb please contact the LRO at gis@lincolnshire.gov.uk Improving access to quality information through partnership working Click on the Planweb link from the Place Survey page or the Planweb Mapping button at the top of any LRO page (and select advanced planweb ). Survey data can only be viewed using the custom password we have set up, so use this instead of your standard Planweb log-in: Username: Place_Survey Password: Results On the next screen you need to pick a geoset; the only one available should be Place Survey. Click the A map of Lincolnshire should appear with red borders outlining the 40 areas used to analyse the Place Survey results: 1

2 Click on PlanWeb Start Page in the top right corner When the drop down menu appears, click on Layer Manager. Your screen should now look like this: Hover over the right hand edge of the map and an arrow to make the layer manager panel bigger or smaller will appear allowing you To view one of the indicators at mosaic level, tick the box in the click the tick column and then box above the menu. It may take a few seconds to appear, the status box below the map will tell you if a new layer is currently or. Your screen should now look like the page below. Yellow dots indicate the highest levels of performance, with green in the middle and blue the lowest. Using Mosaic1, Planweb displays the most likely results down to low level areas, based on actual Place Survey results from those with the same socioeconomic characteristics. 1 Mosaic is a market-leading example of a system that has been designed to group individuals and households into 1 of 11 distinct Groups so those within a group are as similar as possible to each other and as different as possible to any other Group or Type. They describe the residents of a postcode in terms of their typical demographics, their behaviours, their lifestyle characteristics and their attitudes. 2

3 If you want to look at another indicator, remember to untick the current one (if two are ticked, the one displayed will be whichever is higher in the list). When any new layer is selected in the column, no changes will appear until the is clicked. 4 For further information, once zoomed in, click the information icon, and then click in the map on one of the yellow, green, or blue dots. The layer manager menu will change to this: You can also click on the icon to switch to Tree view which you may find easier to view then Table view. The example below is shown in Tree view. The table which appears gives you more information on the indicator you currently have loaded into the map. It should display the full indicator name and NI number, and how the data suggests that the area is performing in relation to the county and national result. Clicking on more info will take you to a full list of England and county results for the indicators displaying in Planweb. The table also tells you the postcode you have clicked into, and the Mosaic group that that postcode belongs to, with its name and description. Clicking on Group Summary will take you to a more detailed description of the group. Click previous menu. and select Layer Manager to return to the To view the different mosaic groups that make up your selected area, without viewing any of the Place Survey indicators, select the MosaicGroups small dots layer from the original menu. 4

5 Printing Click on Layer Manager and select Scale Printing. From here you can select whether you want your map to print Portrait or Landscape, and give it a title and subtitle. Then click the which will create a pdf of your map ready for printing. What is GIS? GIS is a computer system capable of assembling, storing, manipulating, and displaying geographically referenced information. The PlanWeb application allows users to have the power of GIS without requiring any specialist knowledge. It is user friendly but allows manipulation and display of geographically referenced information. Users can view and query their own data along with over 3,000 pieces of other mappable data, print pdf maps and view the latest aerial photography. What are the benefits of GIS? Geographic information is fundamental in understanding not just what is happening, but where. GIS allow us to view, understand, query, interpret, and visualize data in many ways that reveal relationships, patterns, and trends in the form of maps, reports, and charts. GIS can be used to create informed solutions on policy, assist running of services and to manage resources. Within the organisation the GIS system has further benefits; data can be shared across the authority and partners rather than stored in silos duplication in effort and confusion is reduced when sourcing data the system provides easy, open access to all staff within the authority updates to data and layers is performed and maintained centrally cost savings can be made through provision of a free intranet GIS How do I access it? PlanWeb is accessed through the Lincolnshire Research Observatory (LRO) website Once you have accepted the Terms and Conditions click on PlanWeb Mapping link under the Find Maps tab. On this page you will find user manuals, FAQ s and other guidance for users together with details on support in using the system. Both Basic and Advanced versions of the application area available. The advanced version allows users to see their own data, securely, within the system. This can be loaded quickly and easily by the GIS Team GIS@lincolnshire.gov.uk who will provide a username and password and advice on using the system.
