1 8/15/2013 Welcome to Culver City s GIS Property Information Search 2.0. This instructional document provides an overview of most commonly used functionality in this streamlined, enhanced web map application. 1. NAVIGATING THE INTERFACE Click the left-mouse button and drag to pan the map, and use the middle scroll-wheel to zoom in and out. Alternatively, the scale slider in the upper left-hand corner can be used to zoom as well as determine the current fixed map scale range by hovering the mouse over it. To show toolbars, double-click in the banner at the top or click the tools icon on the right. Navigation Tools on the left of the Main toolbar tab may be used to interact with the scale of the map, while Jump to a map bookmark provides a fast way for zooming to a city facility, park, school, etc. Layer Themes, found next to the tools icon, provide useful map backgrounds such as Canvas Base Map for working with black & white maps, Community Base Map for showing feature-rich details, and Imagery dating back to Map Layers may be displayed in the left-hand pane by clicking the I want to button and selecting Turn map data on/off. View layers by expanding (+) groups and toggle on/off using check-mark boxes. Drag slider bar to set transparency of Base Maps.

2 2. SEARCHING The search bar uses keywords to scan through GIS layers found in Map Layers. Find an Address: Typing in lindblade shows the following Results: A valid Culver City address is preceded by Occupant Address Parcel information An attempted location based on an address location along a street s block ranges is reported with a Score of accuracy. Find a Business: Using keyword vons to find the supermarket. Find a Street Intersection: Search for an intersection using the & sign to separate two street names such as washington & Sepulveda. In this example, Results show where Sepulveda Blvd crosses both Washington Blvd and Washington Pl. Find a Parcel: Input a parcel number using either its APN (with dashed) or AIN such as shown here.

3 3. PARCEL INFORMATION Zoom in close enough so that yellow parcel outlines are displayed and singleclick on a property to show its summary information. Assessor Tax Map links each parcel to the L.A. County Assessor s website to view scanned PDF drawings. Click View Additional Details then the Attributes tab to see additional information about a property. Click Create A Report to generate a PDF file containing details and an inset map for each parcel.

4 4. ANALYSIS These tools are found under the Analysis toolbar tab. Measure Distance Select the tool, click the segments, and double-click to complete. Segments drawn are measured in feet and the Total Distance reported in the toolbar. If necessary, click to drop-down and change Units. 5. MAP MARKUP From the Markup toolbar tab, use these tools to customize your map. For example, the Arrow tool is selected and its Border and Fill colors set to blue. Once the arrow is drawn on the map, as shown below, the Edit Drawing tool can be used to alter its shape, move, and rotate the object. This is done by dragging/moving the white edit boxes around the object. To complete the edit, double-click inside the object. To cancel the edit, click Edit Drawing again.

5 6. CREATE PRINTABLE MAP Once your map screen looks that way you want it, create a printable PDF map file with user-definable text. Vicinity Map: A site map with numerous user-definable text areas. Portrait Map: A simple map oriented portrait style. Legend Map: Typically used for a map using several layers that dynamically populates its legend based on which Map Layers have been turned on

6 7. STREET VIEW Link up PropInfo 2.0 with Google Maps street view found under the Maps & Data Sources toolbar tab. Notice the blue angle fanning out on the PropInfo 2.0 map that corresponds to the direction viewed from street view. Move in one map and the other updates dynamically. Split the two maps into separate windows side-by-side.
