1 Item Authoring Tool The Item Authoring Tool allows users to create, view and edit items for specific subjects in WebCCAT, as well as add comments to existing items. The items that you can add or edit and the actions available are limited to the user type and subject to which you are assigned. The permissions of each user type are described below: User Type User Permissions WebCCAT Create, search, view, status, move, and edit all items created/owned at any level by any user Content Create, search, view, status, move, and edit all items created/owned at any level by any user EXCEPT the WebCCAT State Create, search, view, status, move, and edit all items created/owned by any user in their state domain Region Create, search, view, status, move, and edit all items created/owned by any user in their region domain Author* Create, search, view, status (Draft/New), move, and edit items at user level Editor* Search, view, status (Draft <--->New), move, and edit items at user level Reviewer* Search, view, status (New/Draft <--->Edit, New/Draft <--->Rejected), and move items at user level District Coordinator Create, search, view, status, move, and edit personal items AND items create by Curriculum Users; can nominate items to WebCCAT Curriculum User Create, search, view, status, move, and edit personal items; can nominate items to WebCCAT *Role is applicable at the Client, State and Region levels Item Status Classifications Once a new item is created in WebCCAT, the item is classified as a draft until it is reviewed and approved. The sequential process for nominating and approving items in WebCCAT is explained below. Status Explanation Draft indicates that the new item is not yet ready for review. New indicates that the author has submitted the item for review. indicates that the item was rejected by the administrator, can be edited and Rejected resubmitted by the editor. Edits in Progress indicates that the editor is currently applying changes to the item. indicates that the item is in general review by authors, editors, and Gathering Reviews reviewers. Awaiting Approval indicates that the item is awaiting approval from the administrator. indicates that the administrator has approved the item and is now available Approved for use in tests. indicates that the item has been classified as unusable, but remains in Retired WebCCAT. Deleted indicates that the item has been deleted and only viewable by a content administrator.

2 To access this tool, click Item Authoring Tool from the Main Menu. The outline on the left-hand side of the screen is the WebCCAT Item Tree, which lists the subjects, grade levels and TEKS/TAKS available within WebCCAT. To expand a grade level and display the objectives that exist for that grade level, click the plus (+) sign next to the grade level. To collapse, or simplify, the Item Tree, simply click the minus (-) sign. Click the Category Name (ex: 3.1) to view the items that were created in that particular category. A list will appear in the white part of the screen that lists such information as the Item Name, Status, Question Type, and the ability to Edit or Move the item. Creating a New WebCCAT Item 1. To add a new item, click on the plus (+) sign for the desired Subject, Grade Level, TEKS/TAKS, and TEKS/TAKS- SE. 2. Click Add Item under the correct SE from the Item Tree. A screen will appear allowing you to customize the new item.

3 Adding Question & Response Text 1. Place a checkmark in the box next to Question or any one of the available Responses. 2. Enter the question or response text and remove the checkmark from the box when you are finished. Checklist Settings 1. Click Select to choose an existing checklist within WebCCAT 2. Click New to create a new checklist and include it in the item. 3. After you have selected or created the checklist, click Edit to edit the content of the checklist. To add the checklist to the item, click Add to Item. Rubric Settings (currently unavailable) 1. Click Select to choose an existing rubric within WebCCAT 2. Click New to create a new rubric and include it in the item. 3. After you have selected or created the rubric, click Edit to edit the content of the rubric. To add the rubric to the item, click Add to Item. Stimulus Settings 1. Click Select to choose an existing stimulus within WebCCAT. 2. Click New to create a new stimulus and include it in the item. 3. After you have selected or created the stimulus, click Edit to edit the content of the stimulus. To add the checkist to the item, click Add to Item. Warning: Editing a checklist, rubric or stimulus and saving your changes will result in a change to the checklist, rubric or stimulus for all users within WebCCAT.

4 Adding Images to Questions, Answer Choices, and Stimuli 1. To add an image to a stimulus, click Edit next to the stimulus selected. To add an image to a question or answer choice, place a checkmark next to the question or response. 2. Click the icon (Insert Image). 3. To add an item saved to your PC, click New Image and locate the file you would like to add, then click Upload Image. To add a WebCCAT image, use the search categories on the right side of the window to view a list of images. To add the image, simply click on the file name. 4. When you are finished adding the image and editing a text description, click Insert Image. Important Note About Adding Images to Items For best possible results when printing images, please reference the table below. An image larger than these dimensions in width or height will be scaled down to fit the image constraints, maintaining the original aspect ratio. 5 Additional Settings 1. Item Type allows you to make this question a Multiple Choice (MC), Short Answer (SA), Open Response (OR), or Performance Task (PT) item. 2. Keywords allow you to choose keywords for the item that you and other users can use to locate the item in the search feature. 3. Difficulty allows you to classify this item as Easy, Medium, or Hard. 4. Level of Thinking allows you to classify this item as Low, Medium, or High. 5. Language can be set to English or Spanish. 6. Measurement Item allows you to choose yes or no depending on the characteristics of the item. Completing Item Creation 1. To view the new item in Web form, click Web Preview at the bottom of the screen. 2. When you have finished customizing the new item, click Save at the bottom of the screen to save the item. The page will refresh and provide additional options that allow you to view, delete, add comments, and view the log for the item.

6 Viewing WebCCAT Items and Graphics Using the Search Feature 1. To search for one or more WebCCAT items, click the Search link at the top of the screen. 2. Select the Subject, Grade(s), and TEKS/SE-TAKS using the dropdown menus provided. 3. You may further limit the amount of items listed in the search results by entering/selecting additional search criteria, as provided. 4. Click Search Items to view your search results. 5. Click Edit to change the characteristics of the item, including adding or removing checklists, stimuli, and rubrics. 6. Click Move to move the item to a new Subject, Grade, or TEKS/SE- TAKS. Viewing Graphics 1. To view images available in WebCCAT, click Graphics at the top of screen. A search tool will appear allowing you to customize your search criteria for items. 2. Use the drop-down boxes to select the Subject, Grade(s), and TEKS/SE-TAKS to be included in the search. 3. Optional. Use the Additional Filter Requirements on the right side of the screen. 4. Click Search Items to display the items that match your search criteria. 5. Click the Filename to edit image information, or click on the image to view a larger image.
