1 ITEM IMPORTING AND UPLOADING PART OF THE TEST DESIGN SERIES SHORTCUTS PURPOSE Import and upload pre-made items from the Certica Library or via Blackboard 6 files to your item sets in LinkIt! Upload personal as well as district licensed tests from publishers via LinkIt! Prime, a premier service provided to select customers that digitizes and uploads assessments to the LinkIt! platform. GURU EXPERT PRACTITIONER NOVICE I know how to upload tests and items to LinkIt via the LinkIt Prime service and via Blackboard 6 files as well as how to import items from the Certica Library. I know how to upload tests to LinkIt via the LinkIt Prime service and how to import items from the Certica Library. I know how to upload tests to LinkIt via the LinkIt Prime service. I do not know how to import or upload tests or items to LinkIt. 1

2 Task: Find and Import Items from the Certica Item Library Audience: Administrators and Teachers LinkIt! gives you the option of importing pre-made items from the Certica item library, to create custom tests. EXPERT Find and Import Items to an Item Set Folder from the Certica Item Library 1. Go to the Create/Manage Item Banks module under the Test Design icon. 2. Click on the item bank that contains the item set folder that will house your imported items. 3. Click on the Open Item Set folder icon next to the applicable item set. You will be taken to the item set s main page. 4. Click on the Add Items from Library icon on the top of the page. TIP: You can also import items from your own item sets or from the district item library by choosing the Personal Item Library or District Item Library options respectively. 5. In the window that appears, choose either (a) All these filters or (b) Any of these filters from the Find results with menu. The first option is useful when looking for very specific items and will narrow down the results. 6. Select the Certica Item Library option. 2

3 7. Filter items by (a) item criteria, (b) state standards, and/or (c) passage criteria. The item criteria filters are expanded by default. Expanded or collapse (show/hide) filters by clicking on the arrows next to each filter type. a. To filter by item criteria: 1. Type in any keywords in the Keyword(s) text box. 2. Select a subject. 3. Select a grade. 4. Add additional filters to your search, including: a. Webb s Depth of Knowledge (DOK) b. Difficulty c. Bloom s Taxonomy TIP: Use AND / OR in all caps to connect keywords to find items that include both or either of the keywords. b. Certain item are tagged with state standards to which they are aligned. To filter by state standards: 1. Select the state. 2. Select the subject. 3. Select the grade. 4. The window to the right of the filters will begin to populate with the standards meeting your criteria. TIP: You can select all the standards by checking the box on the table header row. 5. Many standards have sub-standards. Sub-standards can be accessed by clicking on the arrow to the right of the standard. To go back to the main standard, click on the arrow pointing to the left of the sub-standard. 6. Select a standard or substandard by clicking on it. TIP: You can sort standards numerically or alphabetically by clicking on the table headers Number and Description respectively. 3

4 c. To filter by passage criteria: 1. Type the passage number (if known) assigned by LinkIt. 2. Select the grade. 3. Select the subject. 4. Select the word count. 5. Add additional filters to your search, including: a. Text type b. Text sub type c. Flesch Kincaid TIP: You can clear the filters by clicking the Clear button. TIP: You can clear all the filters by clicking the Clear Filter button. 8. Once you are finished selecting your filters, click the Apply Filters button. 9. The filtered items matching your criteria will be listed under the Filtered Items pod. 10. Check the box next to the item you would like to add to your set. 11. Click the Add Items to Item Set button. The item will now appear in your item set s pod. 12. Once you are finished importing all the items you need, click the X button at the top of the window to exit and return to the item set s main page. TIP: You can see a summary of all the filters you have applied to your search clicking and expanding Current Filters. 4

5 Task: Upload Items from Blackboard 6 Files Audience: Administrators and Teachers LinkIt! gives you the option of importing Blackboard 6 files. This file format can be used when exporting from test design software like ExamView and district licensed content from publishers. Note: The question content, images, and answer key will be uploaded onto LinkIt, but any standards, skills, or tags associated with the questions are not automatically imported. Requirements: 1. The file uploaded must be a zip file. 2. The only item type currently supported is single-select multiple choice. GURU Upload Blackboard 6 files onto an Item Set 1. Go to the Create/Manage Item Banks module under the Test Design icon. 2. Click on the item bank that contains the item set folder that will house your uploaded items. 3. Click on the Open Item Set folder icon next to the applicable item set. You will be taken to the item set s main page. 4. Click the third icon from the left with the arrow pointing upward. 5. Select the Blackboard 6 zip file from your computer. 6. The new items in the file will be uploaded into the item set folder and appear at the end of the list (assuming items were already in the item set). You will be notified once the items are successfully uploaded. 5

6 Task: Use LinkIt! Prime Audience: Administrators and Teachers PRACTITIONER LinkIt! Prime is a premier service provided to select customers that allows LinkIt s content team to assist schools in digitizing and uploading their assessments to the LinkIt! platform. Tests uploaded via LinkIt! Prime are available for either online or bubble sheet test administration. Requirements: 1. The test and answer key documents can be in Word, PDF or Excel format. Scanned copies for the test and answer key are also acceptable. 2. It is important to provide an accurate address on the form so that we can notify you once the test is uploaded or contact you in case of any questions. We prefer the address of the test author be provided, to allow us to directly reach out to the author should we require clarification about the test. 3. We require that tests be submitted to LinkIt! at least 3 weeks prior to the expected test administration date to allow sufficient time for the LinkIt! team to process the file and for the test author to verify the uploaded content. Upload a Test via LinkIt! Prime 1. Go to LinkIt! Prime s test submission form located at prime.linkit.com. 2. Fill out all the fields on the form: a. District name b. State c. Your name d. Your e. Name of test owner (if different than the person uploading the test - the digitized test will be uploaded onto his/her account) f. of test owner g. Grade level of test h. Subject i. Test bank to house the assessment j. Test name k. Test format - bubble sheet, online, or both l. Choose whether you would like to share the test with your district m. Estimated test administration date 6

7 3. Upload the test: 1. Upload the answer key. 2. Include any comments regarding the test. 4. Click the Submit button. 5. LinkIt s content team will receive notification on each form submission and will contact the client once the test has been processed. Note: Clients are responsible for carefully reviewing tests uploaded via LinkIt! Prime prior to administration and promptly communicating any issues to us. Failure to do so may result in delays for any requested changes. TIP: You can use the comment section, for example, to let us know which questions you would like to be created as specific question types (such as drag and drop, hotspot, etc.). 7
