Terminology search Irrespective of whether a language worker (LW) is a registered TaaS user or not, he/she has a possibility to search for terminology (Figure 1). For this kind of search, also registered users do not have to be logged in into the platform. In this case, EuroTermBank, including external resources interlinked to EuroTermBank, and other users approved terms (if published) can appear in the search results. If the LW is a registered user and is logged in into the system, also his/her own terminology collections will be searched. Figure 1 TaaS Search for terms 1.2. Figure 6 TaaS Projects Creating new projects Creating a new project there is some mandatory and some optional information the user has to specify (Figure 7). D4.2 V 1.0 Page 7 of 16
Figure 7 TaaS Create new project Complete creating a project by clicking Save Working with the projects Having created and saved a new project, the user can start working with it. The following functionalities are available (Figure 8). Figure 8 TaaS Working with a project In particular: 1. Tab Documents : Here, the user can upload the documents for processing in various formats. D4.2 V 1.0 Page 8 of 16
2. Tab Extraction : Here, the user can select documents for extraction, define tools for extraction and sources for target translation lookup (see sec ). 3. Tab Terms : Here, the user can view and edit the extraction and the translation lookup results (see sec. 0). 4. Tab Visualisation : Here, the user has a possibility to view the extraction results in the text processed text (see sec ). 5. Tab Sharing : Here, the user can share his/her projects (see sec ) Tab Extraction The Extraction tab contains tools which can be used for extraction (pre-set) and additional extraction settings (Figure 9). Figure 9 TaaS Settings for extraction Within the Extraction tab, also sources for the translation candidates search are to be specified (Figure 10). These sources can be classified as four types: 1. External term bases and term banks (EuroTermBank, IATE), this source can be considered as more reliable. 2. External sources that store crowd-sourced data (TAUS). 3. Terminology made public by TaaS users, stored internally in TaaS and approved by the users themselves (including one s own collections). 4. Terminology automatically extracted from the Web (SDB) and stored internally in TaaS, this source might be considered as more noisy. D4.2 V 1.0 Page 9 of 16
Figure 10 TaaS Sources for translation lookup During the extraction, different stages of the process are shown to the user, e.g., Term candidate markup, translation candidate lookup, visualisation etc. (Figure 11). Figure 11 TaaS Extraction status Tab Terms Having processed a text, a list of term candidates and translation equivalent candidates is generated. By default, term candidates with translation candidates are displayed. D4.2 V 1.0 Page 10 of 16
Sort/filter term candidates: It is possible to sort/filter terminology as follows (Figure 12): According to the first letter ([a]) Page-wise ([b]) Hide term candidates according to the source the translation comes from ([c]) Hide term candidates with no approval ([d]) Hide term candidates with no translation ([d]) [a] [b] [c] [d] Figure 12 TaaS Sort term candidates Sorting by alphabet and frequency is under testing at the time of writing this document. Editing entries Putting the cursor on a term candidate or on a translation equivalent candidate, some additional information is shown in a pop-up window. From this window, the user can pass over to editing the entry (the pencil sign). Alternatively, the user can use the pencil sign on the right side of the entry or delete the whole entry using the x button (Figure 13). D4.2 V 1.0 Page 11 of 16
Figure 13 TaaS Edit/delete entry In the Term Entry Editor, the user can modify the source language and the target language term, add a definition/note, and complement some other data categories, e.g. term type, register, or geographical use. With one click on a term candidate, it becomes approved (bold type); another click on it resets the choice. Clicking on a translation candidate gives the whole entry the approved status. Import/export Within the Terms tab the user also has a possibility to import and export terminology collections in the formats TBX, TSV, and CSV being able to select only the approved entries. Other functionalities The list of term candidates can also: be searched (left side at the beginning of the list) (Figure 14); be added new source terms (right side at the bottom of the list) (Figure 14). Figure 14 TaaS Search for/enter new term D4.2 V 1.0 Page 12 of 16
Tab Visualisation Although a bit of context is provided during the extraction process and can be viewed when putting the cursor on a term candidate or when editing the entry, it also might be useful to see the extracted candidate in the context of the whole text. For this purposes, the visualisation option is evaluable. It can be ticked before the extraction in the Extraction tab (Figure 15). Figure 15 TaaS Visualisation option/ Extraction tab Within the visualisation tab, it is possible to show or to hide the visualisation for the sake of clarity. When showing the visualisation, the extracted term candidates are shown in blue. Putting the cursor on a term candidate an overview of all the contexts, i.e., positions in the text, the candidate was found in is provided (Figure 16). Figure 16 TaaS Visualisation of extraction results D4.2 V 1.0 Page 13 of 16
Tab Sharing In the Sharing tab the user has a possibility to share his/her projects with other users. For this purpose, the user just has to enter the address of the user in question and click on Share (Figure 17). Figure 17 TaaS Share a project Linking and feedback The website ( also provides links to other websites where users and visitors can learn more about the project as well as the project partners. Furthermore, users and visitors are given a possibility to visit some sources used within the platform (Figure 18). Figure 18 TaaS Linking Users and visitors are also welcome to have TaaS related contact on social media and to give feedback on the platform (Figure 19). D4.2 V 1.0 Page 14 of 16
