3 This document will help you select an initial template design for your ShopWindow and then to switch between different template designs or choose your own. It will also help you identify and select which merchants products will (or won t) be displayed on your ShopWindow. Introduction The ShopWindow Client Software has been developed to allow for the presentation logic to be separated from the PHP business logic. This ensures that the presentation of the ShopWindow Client Software on your site can be totally customised by you, allowing you to tailor the look and feel to match that of your own website. In order to customise Client Software you will need to edit the SMARTY template pages and/or the Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). To integrate Client Software, your web server must run PHP5.2 or above. 3

4 Templates ShopWindow Client Software has been developed with three templates for you to choose from. Each template can be customised by you, the three templates are: - Default - Collage - Arcade Fig 1 Selecting Default Template By selecting a template you are setting the default presentation template of your ShopWindow. Your ShopWindow Client Software root will still include all three templates on download; should you wish to switch to an alternative template design at a later date. When downloading the ShopWindow Client Software from within your affiliate account, you must first select one of three possible templates: If you are yet to download the ShopWindow Client Software, please refer to the ShopWindow Integration and Setup Guide. 4

5 Template One - Default This template provides you with the ShopWindow Client Software with minimum styling, so that you can apply your own design styles to the CSS and SMARTY code. This will allow you to apply your own styling to the Client Software, so that it seamlessly fits into your own website branding. Templates two and three provide you with a variety of colour and layout options to suit your needs. Template Two - Collage Template Three - Arcade 5

6 Customizing Template One - Default In order to customise ShopWindow Client Software you must edit the CSS and SMARTY templates to include your style requirements. Please navigate to the /templates folder within your root, which holds all the template directories (Fig.2). Fig.2 - Templates Directory By opening the template folder that corresponds to the template you selected as the default when you initially downloaded the ShopWindow Client Software, you will be able to view the CSS file and SMARTY template page (Fig.3): Fig.3 Files within a Template Directory Each of the template pages within this folder will require customisation: Index.tpl Category.tpl ProductList.tpl Product.tpl Retailers.tpl outputs home page for ShopWindow Client Software displays the children and grandchildren for a parent category outputs product results that are returned for selected category outputs specific product data for a particular product displays the list of retailers (inc. A-Z) In order to apply your own styling to the ShopWindow Client Software, you must apply the changes to each of the above template files. These template files contain SMARTY code alongside HTML code. You will not be required to edit the SMARTY include as this is the code that is compiling the content within your pages. For more information on SMARTY and support, please refer to the Technical Specifications and Support Guide. 6

7 Changing Templates To change the default template that your ShopWindow Client Software is using, you must edit the constants.inc file. This file can be located within the root of the Client Software directory. Within this constants.inc file, you will be able to edit which template the ShopWindow Client Software uses: Fig 4 constants.inc File As can be seen in Fig.4, this Client Software package is currently set to display using the default directory. This file can be located within /templates. In order to change the default template for your Client Software, this parameter must be updated to point to the desired template directory. In Fig.5 you can see that the collage has now been selected. Fig 5 constants.inc File Updated 7

8 Viewing Changes Once this change has been made, and the constants.inc file has been updated on your web server, the presentation changes will have been applied. If you are unable to view these changes on your website, please check that you have set the force_compile command correctly. Instructions on how to set this can be found within the Technical Specifications and Support Guide. Managing your Merchants Your ShopWindow Client Software will include all products from all merchants except for the ones who require explicit approval. If a merchant programme has terms and conditions which must be agreed to, you must review & accept these conditions and apply to join their programme before their products will be displayed within your Client Software. For merchants operating a manual approval programme, you must apply to join their programme via the merchant manager page and be accepted before their products will be included within your Client Software. In order to review which merchants you have available within your Client Software, please click on the Merchant Manager link within the ShopWindow Admin page (Fig. 6). Fig. 6 Accessing the Merchant Manager Within the Manage Merchants page you can review your relationships with every merchant on the network. 8

9 At the top of the ShopWindow Merchant Manager interface you will see a number of filters. You can review your status with all ShopWindow enabled merchants using one or a combination of the filters. Fig.7 Review filters with in ShopWindow Merchant Manager Fig.8 Filter by Notice By default ShopWindow will exclude all the products from a merchant whose product feed contains products deemed by Digital Window to be Adult. Fig.9 Filter by Membership type Filtering by membership type will identify those merchants who require a specific action, e.g. agreeing to bespoke T&C s, or new merchants whose programmes you have not yet joined. Fig.10 Filter by Merchants with products displayed (or not) on your ShopWindow The Merchants in My ShopWindow filter allows you to display the merchants with which you automatically have a relationship. The Merchants NOT in my shopwindow filter displays the merchants who require you to apply for membership before their products can b included within your ShopWindow. 9

10 Adult Content If you have not applied and joined a merchant programme that offers adult content (eg erotica, sex toys) products, the merchant s datafeed will not be included within your ShopWindow (default setting). If you would like to include merchant datafeeds that contain adult content products, you must change the status of the merchant to active within the Merchant Manager area of your account. Fig 6 Adult Content It is possible to customize the content within your ShopWindow at a data level. This requires you to specify the content and dataset you require. Therefore if you have a website promoting electrical goods only, the Client Software can be customised to output only the electrical goods categories and search electrical products only. Instructions of how to do this are available within the document Customising ShopWindow Client Software Bespoke Functionality. 10

11 Membership Types In order to allow for the ShopWindow toolset to function, we have created three different membership types: Hard Memberships On Demand Memberships Soft Memberships Hard Memberships A Hard Membership refers to the merchant programmes you have applied to join and has been accepted (either automatically or manually). On Demand Memberships An On Demand Membership is in effect a Hard Membership in waiting. Your ShopWindow will display products from merchant programmes you are joined to and from merchant programmes with the facility to auto-approve affiliate applications. The very first time a customer clicks though to a merchant product you are promoting though your ShopWindow a Soft Membership will be converted to a Hard Membership ensuring you are attributed with the appropriate commission. Soft Memberships A Soft Membership only applies when you direct traffic to shopwindow.com. Every product from every merchant on the Affiliate Window network is viewable on shopwindow.com. There is no guarantee that the customers you send though to shopwindow.com will subsequently buy from merchants to which you are joined. A Soft Membership is created between you and every merchant on the network to ensure that you are attributed with any commission generated from traffic you direct though to shopwindow.com. 11
