This presentation will show you how to create a page in a group eportfolio. 1
If you are using your eportfolio for presenting group work, you will need to create a group eportfolio page, which all the group members can see and edit freely. 2
Go to the UniSA eportfolio portal link above (or use the link in the Course Essentials block on the Learnonline website). Use your normal UniSA log-in details to access your eportfolio (all students have one). 3
To create a page in a group eportfolio, you need to have already created the actual group eportfolio. (If you have not created the group eportfolio, there is a short presentation on how to do this, which you will find on your unit website.) You should be able to see your group eportfolio when you log in to your e-portfolio and go to the Groups page, which has a list of your groups. Click on the group for which you want to create the page. 4
You will see the Group Homepage, which summarises the details of the group. 5
You will also see a series of tabs along the top of this page, which give you control over the group eportfolio and its pages. You are currently in the About tab. The Members tab is where you invite members to your group. You can see how to invite members in the presentation on Creating a Group eportfolio. The Forums tab is where you subscribe and post to group forums. 6
The Pages tab is the important tab for you to go to now, because this is where you will create your group eportfolio page for presenting your assignment. Later on, we will be looking at the Share tab, so that you can adjust the share settings for the page you create, and the Files tab, where you upload images, documents and other files to be included on your page. Under the Pages tab, you will see a list of the pages which are associated with your eportfolio. The list will always start with a link to the Group Homepage (the same page that you see under the About tab). However, you will need to create another, new page specifically for your assignment. Let s look at how to do that. 7
To create the page for your assignment, click on the Create page button. 8
You will be taken to an editor screen with six tabs, which all control your new page: Edit title and description, Edit content, Edit layout, Choose skin, Display page, and Share page. Right now, you are in the Edit Title and Description page. Give your group eportfolio page a title, and a description, and tags if you want. Don t lock the page. Save all this. 9
As soon as you save the title information, you will be taken to the Edit Content page, which will look like this. However, we ll leave this content page for the moment, and look instead at the Layout for the poster. Click on the Edit layout tab. 10
On this page, you can change how your poster will be set out - the columns and rows. Select the layout which you think best suits your material. (You can see more options by clicking on the Advanced options link and you even have the option of creating a custom layout.) Save your selected layout. You will now be taken directly to the Edit content tab. 11
As soon as you save the layout, you will be taken to the Edit Content page. Down the left hand side, you will see a list of the types of content you can add to your page for example, text, or an image, or a piece of multimedia such as video, and more. 12
To add to the page, just grab (click on) the type of content you want to include and drag it with the mouse to the column where you want it, and then release it. The block will be positioned according to the layout you chose. You can rearrange the blocks by dragging them around the page with the mouse. For example, in this image, I am grabbing a text box and dragging it over to the first column. Because this page is for group work, text boxes can be especially useful, because they give the group a workspace where they can all input and edit text without having to download documents. 13
As you release the text box block into where you want it to go, a configuration editor screen will appear. Add the title, and the content text. You can also add hyperlinks or images. If you want more options for the text, click on the Toggle button, to see a more extensive toolbar. You can also choose automatic retraction for any of the content on the page. Then save. 14
As soon as you save, you will be taken back to the main page, and you will see your textbox in the position where you placed it. You can edit it again, by clicking on the cog icon, or delete it, by clicking on the rubbish bin icon. 15
For several types of content, you have a choice. For example, if you click on the Media selection, you have the choice of inserting a file which the viewer can download, a folder with documents in it, an entire image gallery, an embedded video, a pdf file or some html code. Note that if you are inserting single files, HTML or other media, you can browse for those files on your computer. However, if you want to insert a folder, you need to have already uploaded it into the File area of your group eportfolio. If you wish to include a video, drag across the Embedded Media box. 16
If you click on the General selection, you can insert a Feedback block, in which feedback from viewers will be displayed; a Creative Commons licence, which outlines the conditions under which viewers can reuse your content; a navigation tool; a block containing updated posts from an online forum; and a Note, which is another type of textbox into which you can attach files. 17
If you click on the External content selection, you can insert an external RSS feed, other external media (such as a YouTube video), or a Google app. 18
The last menu item under the list of content types is called Theme. From here, you can see a list of colour themes which you can apply to your eportfolio page. I have given this page a Sunset theme very colourful, but possibly a little overwhelming! If you are going to use a theme, make sure that it doesn t overshadow the content! You will also be able to customise the look and feel of your page with the Skins tab which we will talk about on the next slide. 19
The Choose skin tab allows you to select a background look and feel for your page and the blocks, by setting colours, background images, font and button styles, and logos. (Note that you won t see the page in its new skin in editing mode you need to click on Display Page at the top.) However, you must already have some skins in the list on the right hand side to be able to add them to your page. If you don t have any skins, you will need to import or create a skin. To do this, just click on Manage skins, and you will be taken to 20
the Skins management area, which can normally be accessed from under the Portfolio tab (note that you have now left the eportfolio page you were working on). On the Skins page, you can check out the eportfolio skins which other people have created, and import them to your own list of skins if you like them. If you are feeling especially creative, you can create your own skin for the eportfolio page, to give it a stylish look and feel. 21
When you have finished on the Manage skins page, you will need to find your way back to the eportfolio page you were working on. The easiest way is to click on the Dashboard tab. Your eportfolio page will probably be at the top of the Latest Views list. 22
The final two tabs in the edit mode for your page are the Display and Share tabs. The Display tab will show you what the page will look like to the viewers, including the new skin. There is a button to return you to editing mode, where you must save your edits. The Share tab takes you to the area in which you manage the sharing rights for all your eportfolio pages we will talk about this in a moment. 23
When you have finished adding content to your eportfolio page, click on Done at the bottom. You will be taken back to the list of pages for the group eportfolio, where you should find your new page. Click on the name of the page to see what it looks like (you can edit it from this display view), or use the icons to the right of the page name to edit or delete the page. 24
For some units, your teaching staff will have prepared an example eportfolio page which you can copy into your group eportfolio if you wish, to use as a template for your assignment. The template will provide you with a structure and some ideas, but you will need to develop your own content. You should find the url for the copyable page on the assignment page on the unit website. The following slides will tell you how to copy a prepared eportfolio page. 25
To copy a page across to your group eportfolio,go to the relevant group, and open the group eportfolio by clicking on the group name. 26
Now go to the Pages tab for your group. Click on the green 'Copy a page' button at the top right of the list of pages. 27
This will take you to a list of all pages in the eportfolio system which have been designated as copyable. Use the search function (either by page name or group name) to find the template page which you wish to copy. Don t forget to click Go. 28
When you find the template, click on the 'Copy page' button to the right of the name. You will then be presented with this page in editing mode. You can change the title, description, the layout or edit the content as we have described earlier. When you are ready, save the page and it will be saved to your group eportfolio. If you have not renamed it, it will be saved as Copy of.. You can edit it as you would edit any of your eportfolio pages, by clicking on the pencil icon to the right of the page name. You can use this page as the basis for your own page - make any changes that you need and upload your own information. You can also see examples of different media which have been used in this page - this may give you ideas for your own page. 29
Before we finish this presentation, we will discuss how to manage who can see your eportfolio page, and how to add files. From the group eportfolio webpage, you can see the Share tab, which gives you two actions. Firstly, it allows you to generate secret urls for the pages in your eportfolio, which you can give to your Teaching Team for feedback. We have prepared another presentation on how to generate a secret url for an eportfolio page, which you should find on your course or unit website. Secondly, the Share tab lets your group decide who will be able to access the pages in your eportfolio. Let s try this. Go to the Groups tab and then click on the Share tab. You will see a list of the pages for your group eportfolio. Click on the Edit Access icon (the small key) to the right of the eposter page name. (You can also do this by clicking on the Share tab from within the editing menu for the page.) 30
You will now be taken to the screen where you set up access to your pages. Start by finding the relevant page at the top and ticking it. You then need to decide specifically which users to share with (for example, the general public, which is everyone, or all logged in users, or other groups). 31
If you want to share with your course coordinator, you will need to search for their name under the users list. When you have decided who to share with, click on the Add icon. 32
At the bottom of this page, you will find an Advanced Options button. Click on it and make sure that if the page is for assessment, you allow comments on your page this is important if your page is to be seen and monitored by your Teaching Team, so that they can give feedback on your group work. You must also Allow Copying, because one of your group may need to copy the page across to his/her own individual eportfolio for submitting for assessment (you cannot submit from a group eportfolio). 33
The final tab for your group eportfolio is the Files tab, which will take you to the files repository for the eportfolio. You can upload files here and keep them centrally, to be inserted into whichever eportfolio pages you wish. If you wish to add folders to your pages, you must create them here. 34
This ends our presentation on creating and populating a page in a group eportfolio. We have included these links, which you might find useful. Good luck with your group work, and with your eportfolios! 35
