1 Info Product Killer Top 10 Ways to Make Money Online No. 5 Affiliate Marketing Part 2 Linking In order for us to be a successful affiliate we need to learn how to link the page we want to send traffic to from wherever we are marketing it from. All affiliate programs have tools for us to use and in many cases it is simply a matter of copying and pasting the code they give us. Types of Tools Each network has similar tools for us to use, some however offer us some more advanced features that once we master we can utilise to our advantage. Out tool section will include: Banner adverts These come in various sizes and are measured in what we call pixels. In fig 1 below we have the most common banner sizes. Most merchants will have a wide selection of these banners and once you are accepted onto their program you will have full access to these. Text ads Text ads are just words that are linked through to the merchant s site. To be honest it is a easy to make your own by simply hyper-linking some content on your page and then adding your affiliate link. Deep-Linking This is my favourite way of linking to a merchant s website as it allows me to control what pages on the merchant s site I want to send traffic to. If you are promoting a specific item that a merchant sells then deep-linking is a very good way of sending targeted traffic to that page and product. 1

3 On the accompanying video I have used Affiliate Window s deep-linking tool to show you how to deep link to a page. You must be logged into your affiliate account on Affiliate Window to be able to do this. Before we do this let s look at how to access a merchants tool s. Once you are here click advertisers and select the merchant you want to promote. Be aware you have to be approved onto their affiliate program first. See Fig 2 below: Fig 2 In fig 3 below we choose the merchant we want to promote listed in our programmes section, once you click on the merchant s name it takes you through to where all their tools are located: 3

4 Fig 3 Next we click on Banners and link and then we will go to the linking tool area. See fig 4 below: Fig 4 Now we are on the page where we can click on the banner link, in the example in fig 5 below you see there are 24 banners to choose from and once I click on the number 24 they appear below. All you need to do here is copy the code and paste it where you want the banner to appear. (fig 5) 4

5 Fig 5 To deep-link to a specific page on a merchant s website we need to visit the merchant s website and go to the page we want to send traffic to. As shown in fig 6 below: Fig 6 5

6 Copy the address from the address bar. To do this you click after the end character and the address will turn blue. Either right click and press copy or press ctrl and C on your keypad. Next we go back to our Affiliate Window account and click on links and tools and click link builder as in Fig 7 Fig 7 On the next page we have some fields to fill-in; it is very easy as shown in fig 8 below. 1 Choose which merchant you are going to deep link to 2 Paste the link you have just copied from the merchant s site into the deep link url field. Do this by right clicking and paste, or as you have it saved already press ctrl v on your keypad. 3 If you wish you can choose the shortening button, this shortens the link and does not look unsightly and from a search engine point of view it does not look like an obviously affiliate link 4 All we do now is highlight the link, copy it by righ clicking and then we paste it on our pages, that is how we deep-link. The majority of affiliate networks allow you to deep-link to a merchant s website. Each network has different interfaces but once you master where to do it the same principles apply. 6
