3 How are Categories, Tags and Topics related? When you create a new Post, you will add one Category and mul7ple relevant Tags. Categories and Tags are used to organize your content, and create more focused mini- news rivers on your site. Post Category Tag Tag 3

6 EXERCISE Create a Category You will be responsible for crea;ng Categories for the main topics that your news team will be adding content to. Let s create two new Categories Arts and Arts & Culture.

7 EXERCISE Merge Duplicate Categories We recommend reviewing your list of Categories on a quarterly basis to merge any duplicates. Let s merge the two categories that we just created Arts and Arts & Culture into the Arts & Culture category.

8 About Category Pages Each Category has its own Category Page that can be added to your Flexi Menu or footer. 8

9 Module One: Recap Workflow Notes: Categories should be broad terms that can be used to capture content. Five Categories is great. Ten is too many. Merge your duplicate/related Category terms on a quarterly basis to keep your content organized. Category Page links can be added to your Flexi Menu. 9

A RSS feed is a way to deliver constantly upda7ng web content in a format that can be read by web browsers and feed readers. You can subscribe to an RSS Feed or review the feed at will. What is a podcast? A podcast is a way to deliver a dynamic feed of audio files via the Internet in an episodic fashion using RSS. You can subscribe to a podcast so it automa7cally updates when new audio arrives. 20

21 EXERCISE Set Up Your Podcast and RSS Feed Defaults Make sure to set your podcast and RSS feed defaults before you start to manage any specific podcasts or feeds. Let s fill in the default seengs for your site s feeds.

22 Managing RSS Feeds & Podcasts Click on the Podcasts & RSS tab on any Program, Category, Tag and Topic page to access the related feed URLs. You can also make changes to the informa7on that will display in third- party podcast players (like itunes or Google Music). 22

23 EXERCISE Manage a Podcast and RSS Feed If you are going to submit your podcast to be shared in a third party podcast player, override the default informa;on to customize your podcast. Let s take a look at the podcast seengs for the Beat Culture Topic Page that we created. 24 Module Four: Recap Workflow Notes: Confirm that your defaults are set up before submieng a podcast. Podcasts from Core Publisher can be submi^ed to any third- party podcast site. Podcasts and RSS Feeds are created for every Program, Category, Tag and Topic that has posts. 24

25 Next Steps/Homework q Create the main Categories that best represent the content that your sta7on focuses on. q Create the Tags and corresponding Topic Pages that you want to use to highlight your content. (Remember, you don t have to create all of the tags on your site; only the ones that will be associated with new Topic Pages.) q Confirm that your streaming is working on your Core Publisher site on both desktop and mobile. q Con7nue to work on your Flexi Menu, Footers, Header, Programs, People and Pages. 25
