7 OSM Data Model: Nodes, Ways, & Relations* Nodes - Geospatial points (lat & long)... Can be used to define standalone point features or be used to define the path of a way. Ways - Ordered list of nodes with at least one tag or is included within a Relation. Can be open or closed a closed way may be interpreted either as a closed polyline, an area, or both. 22 Make OSM Network Feature Services We built a network feature service for the City of Portland - Run a subset of area of interest through the Download, Extract & Symbolize model within the toolbox - Now have an OSM network configured using the included configuration file which performs well, both in desktop and as a routing service through ArcGIS Server

23 Create Alternative Navigation I work for a public transport company and we use navigation systems for new drivers and large redirects. The navigation systems can use an.osm file for navigation However, the default systems guide you only in routes that are accessible for 'normal' traffic. It will not guide you on bus lanes, one way streets etc. So - I load the.osm file into a feature dataset, make edits so the non-normal traffic is considered navigable, and then export to an.osm for my navigation device.

24 Hazard and Risk Assessment I generate infrastructure data for my Indonesia Hazard Risk and Vulnerability maps Since most of the data are not sharable by the Indonesia governmental agencies, Open Street Map data is a good alternative Layers needed: school, hospital, reservoir, governmental building, and communication facilities

25 I use the tools quite a bit for capturing data in parts of the world where it s difficult to get content e.g. Middle East, Africa, etc. Does the level of detail, feature richness, label attributes, and/or dual language support exceed that of the commercial alternative?

29 What can OSM mappers do to improve OSM use? Fill out label attribution fields Code them properly with language codes Name can be any language; consider using name with language code, e.g., name:en=, name:ar= Label your roads with a name, and code them
