3 Introduction MX Looper Suite User Manual Overview MX Looper Suite is a collection of commands and server behaviors for Macromedia Dreamweaver MX, designed to help developers create complex repeated regions. The suite include a Horizontal Looper Command and SB (to help you create a table with dynamic information), a Nested Repeat Region Command and SB (to help you create a grouped repeated region (like Departments with Employees)), and a Paged Recordset Navigation Command and SB (only for PHP server models). The MX Looper Suite targets a very large range of developers as it can be used in PHP, ASP and ColdFusion pages using the PHP_MySQL, PHAkt2 (PHP_ADODB), ASP_VBScript, ASP_JavaScript and ColdFusion server models. To be able to fully understand this manual you need in any case a certain knowledge of the software involved. One should know how you can create interactive pages using Dreamweaver MX and the appropriate Server Behaviors. The developer should be familiar with dynamic web sites development, and will need a rough knowledge of how a web application server and the database operate. A more detailed guidance would lead here too far and can be looked up in the Macromedia products help, as we have created our extensions in a way similar to Macromedia's. Prerequisites As a prerequisite for the using "MX Looper Suite", the following software is required: Windows or MAC OS Dreamweaver MX The Dreamweaver Extension "PHAkt2" or PHP_MySQL server model included in Dreamweaver MX ASP_VBScript server model included in Dreamweaver MX ASP_JavaScript server model included in Dreamweaver MX ColdFusion server model included in Dreamweaver MX Web Server e.g. Apache/IIS/ColdFusion Mysql database (ATS version)/microsoft Access database optionally phpmyadmin Accessing the MX Looper Suite Commands and Server Behaviors To access the MX Lopper Suite Server Behaviors, the developer should use the Server Behaviors menu, and should look inside the MX Loopers submenu. 4 MX Looper Suite User Manual Figure 2 Accessing the MX Looper Suite Commands MX Looper Suite Commands Because some of the MX Looper Suite Server Behaviors have to be applied in a unified way, we are providing a set of commands to generate them. The commands take care of the creation of the targeted Server Behaviors, auxiliary tables and other information. You should always use commands instead of Server Behaviors when provided, as they will save you a lot of time and will also do the things right. Nested Repeat Region Figure 3 The Create Nested Repeat Region Command Interface Specifications Fields: Connection the field displays a drop down list containing all of the database connections defined for the current site. Repeat Style the nested repeat region output style: "List" will display records in a comma separated list, while "Sub-table" will display the detail records in separated table rows Examples: Page 4

5 MX Looper Suite User Manual Illustration 4 Nested repeat region tree style Illustration 5 Nested repeat region List style Master Table this drop down contains a list of all the tables available for the currently selected connection; this table will be rendered as the master table in our nested repeat region Primary Key this field should contain the primary (unique) key field of the selected master table; Display Field this drop down menu will list all the master table fields; users should select the field whose content they want to be displayed by the repeated region; Detail Table this drop down contains a list of all the tables available for the currently selected connection; here you would select a table that is related to the Master Table. Foreign Key the foreign key of the selected table; the column selected here should be the column that defines the relationship between Detail Table and Master Table. Display Field this drop down menu will list all the detail table fields; users should select the field whose content they want to be displayed by the nested repeat region; Horizontal Looper Figure 6 The Create Horizontal Looper Command Interface Specifications Fields: users should select the recordset to be used as data source by the command; Show Rows a text area field where users should set the number of rows to be repeated (displayed on the page) Show Columns a text area field where users should set the number of columns to be displayed on the page All Records a check box field who decides whether all records are displayed on the same page, in which case the "Show Rows" field is deactivated,or if the recordset results will be displayed on multiple pages in which case users have to add navigation menus; Page 5

6 Page Navigation Bar MX Looper Suite User Manual For the moment, the "Page Navigation Bar" server behavior for the ASP and ColdFusion server models is not implemented. We will develop this feature for later versions. We will develop this feature for later versions. 7 MX Looper Suite User Manual Figure 9 The Nested Repeat Region SB Interface Specifications Fields: Master Recordset the field contains a drop down list displaying all the defined recordsets in the current page; Primary Key this field should contain the primary (unique) key field of the selected master recordset; Detail Recordset the field contains a drop down list displaying all the defined recordsets in the current page; Nested Show If Not First This server behavior does not have an interface as it is not necessary. The behavior will insert a Show If condition on the nested repeat region separator which will not be displayed if the associated record is the first of the nested repeat region. 8 page MX Looper Suite User Manual All Records a check box field who decides whether all records are displayed on the same page, in which case the "Show Rows" field is deactivated,or if the recordset results will be displayed on multiple pages in which case users have to add navigation menus; Row Separator this text area field is used to define the separators used between two rows of the resulted repeated region; users can choose between "<br>" or "</tr><tr>" Improved Navigation Server Behaviors Loop Next Pages For the moment, the "Page Navigation Bar" server behavior for the ASP and ColdFusion server models is not implemented. We will develop this feature for later versions.
