2 BUE Overview WebFOCUS, the industry's most complete and versatile BI and analytics platform, is available in a workgroup edition, for business users and analysts. This is the version used for the free WebFOCUS trial. 2

3 5 Cool Things What Are They? Have you have signed up for a WebFOCUS BUE 14 day trial and would like to experiment with the product? Here are 5 'cool things' to try, which can be executed with either your data or this sample database (Retail Sales). All you need is a valid login (click HERE to request a trial login if you don't already have one). 1. Analytics Kick Start. Upload data, automatically create a portfolio of analytics. 2. Mapping. Create a global color coded map, add drill down and enrichment layers. 3. Instant Visual Exploration - Create a chart, add Insight mode, try exploring on a tablet. 4. Reporting and In-Document Analytics. Create a report, turn into an analytical document. 5. Analytics Assembly - Put it all together. Use WebFOCUS Designer to combine the above. 3

5 #1 Analytics Kick Start Within BUE is an Automated BI and Analytics Generator, which will create a portfolio of reports, charts and dashboards from an uploaded spreadsheet. This is a useful starting point. You may have your own spreadsheet, or you could use this sample spreadsheet (Retail Sales). So, go ahead and login and let s get started Check your welcome for login credentials Start page: 5

6 #1 Analytics Kick Start Within BUE is an Automated BI and Analytics Generator, which will create a portfolio of reports, charts and dashboards, based on the identified measures and dimensions. This is a useful starting point. From the WebFOCUS Home Page, in the My Content folder for your personal Domain, click on the Upload Data icon The Data Upload Wizard starts click on the Select File button Locate the spreadsheet you d like to use 6

7 #1 Analytics Kick Start The data preparation console opens up. This enables metadata creation. For now just click on the Load and Next option. A dialog appears with options for loading the data. For now click on Proceed to Load. After the data is loaded into HyperStage, a final dialog appears asking what to do next. Click on Gain Insight. 7

8 #1 Analytics Kick Start Inside WebFOCUS you will find new folders, in this case under retail_sales. The number of folders depends upon the number of measures inside the spreadsheet. Double click on one of the subfolders to reveal a selection of reports and charts. Double click to run, or right click to see a list of other actions. 8

9 #2 Mapping Create a global color coded map, add drill down and enrichment layers. 9

10 #2 Mapping WebFOCUS includes a tight integration with market leading ESRI mapping technology. Let s use the Retail Sales data to create a color coded world map via the InfoAssist authoring tool, with auto drill down and enrichment with Assuming you have already demographic data. uploaded some data, from My Content click on Chart. If not head to #1 and upload a spreadsheet, ideally Retail Sales as it has geographical dimensions. The popup display the data sources you currently have access to. 11 #2 Mapping 1. Once a new InfoAssist browser window appears, click on the format tab, then change the chart type to Choropleth (map) 3. Change the background of the map to one of the 11 options 2. Now select fields from the metadata on the left. Double click on Gross Profit, then double click on Country 11

12 #2 Mapping A couple more options to select. First click on Demographic Layers and pick 2 to 3*, then click on Auto Drill. You have been in preview mode up to now. Click on the Run button and now the map will be live. Zoom in, click on the US and a popup appears to enable drilling to State. * We are adding global country demographics in

13 #2 Mapping 2. To save a thumbnail, and then the chart, click the camera icon, then OK, then the IA icon then save. 1. Keep drilling to city, e.g. for Texas. Click on the layers option in the upper right of the map to adjust data enrichment visuals. 3. To close InfoAssist and return to the BUE Home Page, simply close the browser window 13

14 #3 Instant Visual Exploration Create a chart, add Insight mode, try exploring on a tablet. 14

15 #3 Instant Visual Exploration WebFOCUS has multiple modes from which to derive insights, whether reporting, charting, data discovery or visual exploration. One of these is 'Insight' mode, that enables any chart to be created with a visual data discovery option. Let s try it! Assuming you have already uploaded some data, from My Content click on Report. If not head to #1 and upload a spreadsheet. The popup display the data sources you currently have access to. If you previously uploaded the sample Retail Sales sheet then click on retail_sales and Open. 15

16 #3 Instant Visual Exploration 1. Once a new InfoAssist browser window appears, double click on Gross Profit and Sales Date Month. 2. Now click on Product Category and drag it onto the Color By line. 16

17 #3 Instant Visual Exploration 1. A stacked bar would be more intuitive for this type of analysis so let s change the chart type. Click on the Format tab, Other and the stacked bar icon 2. Now we have a stacked bar chart, showing gross profits by month, broken down by product category. Let s enable Insight mode, and turn on the visual exploration. Click on Run With, then Insight. 3. Now as before, click on the camera icon, then save the report by clicking on the IA icon, then close the browser window 17

18 #3 Instant Visual Exploration From your My Content folder, double click on the stack bar thumbnail. Insight incorporates an innovative approach to selfservice discovery, by leveraging an interactive header that enables measures, dimensions and attributes to be changed. Click on the interactive header to change the measure, grouping, coloring or other. FYI the fields are sourced from the metadata. 18

19 #3 Instant Visual Exploration Try opening BUE on your ipad or tablet. Insight is an excellent option for mobile users using touch screen devices. Now any user can conduct data discovery, not just those select few who have access to a heavy duty data discovery tool. 19

20 #4 Reporting and In-Document Analytics Create a report, turn it into an analytical document. 20

21 #4 Reporting and In-Document Analytics Most businesses are still actually run on reports. Reporting is a key ingredient of BUE, and it is possible to quickly and easily create simple reports or more advanced statements. Reports can also be saved as 'In- Document Analytics' packages that include data and in-built excel type functions for disconnected analysis. Let s give it a go Assuming you have already uploaded some data, from My Content click on Report. If not head to #1 and upload a spreadsheet. The popup display the data sources you currently have access to. If you previously uploaded the sample Retail Sales sheet then click on retail_sales and Open. 21

22 #4 Reporting and In-Document Analytics 1. Once a new InfoAssist browser window appears, double click on Revenue, Gross Profit, Country and Product Category. 2. Now drag the Product Category field from the By to the Across line, to create more of a matrix report. 22

23 #4 Reporting and In-Document Analytics 1. Apply a template to the report by clicking on theme, and selecting one of the templates. I picked ENBlue_Light1 and then clicked Open. 2. Feel free to try other options such as Report Header, Column and Row Totals. 3. Another setting to enable is the Auto Drill. Click on the Format tab, then the Auto Drill icon. 23

24 #4 Reporting and In-Document Analytics 1. Let s turn this report into an analytical document, by clicking on the Home tab, the HTML icon and selecting Active Report in the dropdown. 2. Now create a thumbnail by clicking on the camera icon, then saving the report by clicking on the IA icon and naming it. 3. Now close InfoAssist by closing the browser window, and you will see the report thumbnail in the My Content folder. 24

25 #4 Reporting and In-Document Analytics Double click on the thumbnail and the report will open up. This is where the fun starts as they say. Active Reports inherently contain many analytical functions, similar to Excel. Right click on the down arrow, and a drop list of capabilities appears Example of a Filter Highlight Example of a Chart/Rollup Internet Explorer supports additional ActiveX controls, one of which is Send as . Try this to a disconnected analytical document. 25

26 #5 Analytics Assembly Put it all Together. Use WebFOCUS Designer to combine the above. 26

27 #5 Analytics Assembly WebFOCUS includes a Designer tool that makes BI and analytics content assembly a cinch. Let s create a WebFOCUS page that includes any of your BI and analytics views. [Note: In the full version of BUE and WebFOCUS, you can assemble content from other users in your workgroup and Domains] Assuming you have already created some reports and charts, lets click on the Page icon. The popup allows you to copy an existing page or select one of the templates that helps to organize content on a new page. Let s go with Blank. 27

28 #5 Analytics Assembly The WebFOCUS Designer tool opens up in a new browser window. From here you can drag content from your folders onto the canvas. Drag the report you just created onto the canvas, then expand by dragging the corner as needed, in this case filling half the available space. 28

29 #5 Analytics Assembly Double click the title and add your own Drag the map and chart you previously created onto the right side of the canvas and resize to fill the space. 29

30 #5 Analytics Assembly Another feature of Designer is to share content in containers. Open up the folder that was created in step #1 and drag one of the reports or charts over the current report on the canvas. A popup asks how you want to display, whether replace or add, and then how to add. Select new tab. 30

31 #5 Analytics Assembly We are done for now. Click on the top left icon and Save the page with a name of your choosing. Then click on the top left icon again and Close the Designer tool and window. Back at My Content you will see a thumbnail for your new page. Right click on that thumbnail and let s Run in a new window to see what we have created. 31

32 #5 Analytics Assembly We now have multiple BI and analytical views that are all connected to data and interactive. Click on the 2 nd tab to open any other views that share that container. I added 2 more to the lower right container as well. One feature we did not show is that a container can contain common filters, so changing one (e.g. country) will update all views. Pages are fully responsive try resizing your browser or running on a mobile device 32
