2 ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS Question 1: (25 MARKS) Explain briefly how session state works in ASP.NET. [5 marks] There are many ways to navigate from one page to another in ASP.NET. List and explain any three methods used for page-topage navigation. Explain the following built-in functions and illustrate each using simple examples. Specify all possible parameters where required. (i) (ii) strreverse() strcomp(). Write an ASP.NET program with the specifications given below: (i) (ii) (iii) (iv) create a DropDownList control declaratively with three items: Select Colour, Red and Blue. a user must not be able to submit the form if he chooses the Select Colour item. the form is only submitted if a user selects either Red or Blue. detect the chosen colour and prints a message as follows: Red colour chosen or Blue colour chosen. 3 Question 2: (25 MARKS) You are developing a web application for an inventory control system. The web application consists of various web pages that allow users to enter information, such as the available stock, the stock ordered, the items sold and the price of each item. Your aim is to provide a consistent interface and behavior for all the screens that allow users to enter such data. Explain the approach you will use to create the interface. Describe the Web related term Namespaces as used in the.net Framework. Distinguish between Session Cookies and Persistent Cookies. Illustrate your answer using extract codes. Using appropriate ASP.NET validator controls, write extract codes to validate the following five Text Boxes: (i) Name, which is a mandatory field (ii) Age, which is a numeric field that must be between 18 and 60 (iii) Social Security number (ssn), which is a string input with the format NNN-NN-NNNN, where N is a digit (iv) Total number of children, which must be greater than or equal to zero (v) Number of male children, which must be greater than or equal to zero and less than or equal to the total number of children (referring to part (iv) above). 4 Question 3: (25 MARKS) You can enable cookieless sessions by modifying the sessionstate element in the web configuration file. List and explain four possible values for the cookieless attribute as used in the sessionstate element. [4 marks] (i) What is the importance of Master Page in Website design? (ii) Master Page has one serious shortcoming. Explain this statement and give one possible solution to overcome the above situation. [5 marks] Outline any five actions that can be activated from the web.config file. [5 marks] Give two reasons why the IsPostBack property is essential while binding data to a DropDownList Control? 5 Question 4: (25 MARKS) You are developing an application to display a railway timetable. While designing the application, you need to decide whether to opt for a connected data access mode or a disconnected data access mode. You should decide whether to use stored procedure or inline query, and where to use DataReader, DataAdapter, and Dataset. Explain which approach you will choose before you finalize the Data Layer of your application. Analyze the implications of uploading and saving files on (i) a file system (ii) a database server. Distinguish between the following methods as used in ADO.NET: (i) ExecuteReader() (ii) ExecuteNonQuery() (iii) ExecuteScalar(). Write an ASP.NET program that allow you to retrieve and display all records from the tblbooks database table in a GridView control, using the DataSet principles.
