This question paper consists of two sections: Section A and Section B. 2. Section A is compulsory. 3. Answer any two questions from Section B. 4. Questions may be answered in any order but should be clearly marked 5. Start each question on a new page 6. Total marks 100. This Exam paper contains 4 questions and 12 pages. Page 1 of 12
2 SECTION A (Compulsory) QUESTION 1: (40 MARKS) a) What do you understand by the term Human Computer Interface? (3 marks) b) The Norman s design guideline applied to user interface design of computer applications consist of six principles. With the help of examples, and using diagrams where necessary, write short notes on any two Norman s design principles. (12 marks) c) Explain the following terms with regards to the textbox control in VB.Net. (i) Class (ii) Object (iii) Properties (iv) Methods (v) Events (10 marks) d) Name any three programming languages of the Visual Studio.Net Package. (3 marks) e) The.Net Framework consists of several components. Name and briefly describe any three main components supporting your answer with an appropriate diagram. (9 + 3 marks) Page 2 of 12
3 SECTION B (Answer any two questions) QUESTION 2: (30 MARKS) a) You are provided with the following screenshot of a Password validation application as shown in Fig 2 a) (i) and 2 a) (ii). When the Validate (cmdvalidate) button is clicked it checks the password in the textbox (txtvalidate). If the password is correct the textbox (txtresponse) displays the text Correct Password. If the password is incorrect the textbox (txtresponse) displays the text Incorrect Password! Please try again. Write a VB.Net program to implement the Password Validation program. (5 marks) Fig 2 a) (i) txtvalidate txtresponse Page 3 of 12
4 Fig 2 a) (ii) b) Fig 2 (b) below represents a simple Pong game where the user moves a striker (picobj2) horizontally to the left or right to hit the ball (picturebox1). Each time the latter is a hit, the score (lblscore) is incremented by one. Using Select Case write VB.Net codes to move the striker to the left or to the right. (10 marks) Fig 2 (b) Page 4 of 12
5 c) Fig 2 (c) below represents a simple scrollbar application. It consists of a horizontal scrollbar (hscrollbar1) and a vertical scrollbar (vscrollbar1). The picturebox in the middle of the form can be moved either horizontally or vertically by scrolling on the respective scrollbar ensuring that the picture does not go beyond the four boundaries of the form. At the same time it displays the actual location of the picturebox in the labels below. Write VB.Net codes to implement the horizontal and vertical scrollbars and to display the actual location. (8 marks) Fig 2 (c) d) A VB.Net application can consist of one or more than one Forms. In a multiform application, forms can be opened in either Modal or Modeless mode. Using appropriate code and method examples distinguish between these two modes. (4 marks) Page 5 of 12
6 e) Explain fully the following VB.Net codes Private Sub btnmybutton_click(byval sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnmybutton.click Dim frm2 As New frm2() frm2.mdiparent = Me frm2.show() End Sub (3 marks) Question 3 (30 Marks) Fig 3 shows some screenshots of a small application to display the details of some modules in SITE. It consists of the ModuleID (integer), ModuleName (String), Level (Integer), Credit (Integer) and the Category (string). All the details are stored in a table named Module1 in an MS Access database named module_bank.mdb. Once the Display in textbox button is pressed, the first record is displayed. Navigation buttons are also provided to browse through the different records. All the records are displayed at one go during form load event in the datagrid (dgmodule) when the Display data in Grid button is pressed. Fig 3 (a) (i) Page 6 of 12
7 (a) Write VB.Net codes to connect to the database, test for its connection and display the data (first record) in the text boxes. 10 Question 4 (30 Marks) Fig 4 shows some screenshots of a small application to display the details of some modules in SITE. It consists of the ModuleID (integer), ModuleName (String), Level (Integer), Credit (Integer) and the category (string). All the details are stored in an external plain text file (Notepad File) named module2.txt. Once the Display in listbox button is pressed, all the records are displayed in the lstmodules. When the Classify button is clicked the records are displayed in different respective listboxes, lstlevel1, lstlevel2 and lstlevel3. Write VB.Net codes for these buttons: (a) Display in Listbox.
