1 HEALTHLINK LAB ORDER USER GUIDE To begin, click Lab Order on the top menu. Select Mater Hospital from the drop down list. You will be presented with the Patient Search page where you can select the correct patient details. To search for a patient: Type the full or partial patient surname in the Patient Family Name field and click Search. For example if you enter dun, all names in the database such as Dunne, Dunbar are returned. Choose the correct name and click Select. The details are automatically entered on the form on the next page. If you make a mistake or wish to change the name, click Reset. Note you can also search using Patient First Name or Date of Birth. Please note only patients who have previously had results sent back on HealthlinkOnline will be available in the Search list.

2 Entering Patient Details Manually (not in Search list) If the patient you are looking for is not in the database it will say No Records Found. Click Continue to Add the Patient Details where you can type the details directly into the Lab Order Request Form.

3 Use the following guidelines to complete the patient demographics: 1. Patient Family Name: Enter in full. If it begins with Mc or Mac do not include a space e.g. MCHUGH; If it begins with O it should have a space e.g. O Donnell 2. Patient First Name: Enter in full eg. Brigid not Bri 3. Patient Title: Mr/Ms/Sr/Fr etc. 4. Patient DOB: Enter in format DD/MM/YYYY. Please confirm with patient. 5. Patient Sex: M = male; F= female 6. Street Address: Enter all details in full eg. Street instead of St; County instead of Co. 7. Address Line 2: Enter all details in full eg. Street instead of St; County instead of Co. 8. Address Line 3: Enter all details in full eg. Street instead of St; County instead of Co. 9. Address Line 4: Enter all details in full eg. Street instead of St; County instead of Co. Required fields on the Order Form An Emergency Contact Number must be filled-in on the form. Type in the number where the lab can reach you for critical reports. Clinical Details are also mandatory. Type in any relevant details. If none are available enter None. If the patient is female, you will be asked if she is pregnant. If pregnancy details are known, select Yes or No from the drop down list. Click Next to continue.

4 Now you can select the tests to be ordered: 1. Select the specimen type from the options given eg. Blood Clotted. Note: the tick-boxes are colour-coded to match the colours of the bottles. It is necessary to tick one of the boxes in order to display the related tests. 2. Select the required tests on the particular specimen eg. FBC, Red Cell Folate. 3. Repeat the steps outlined above for each new specimen ie. Select the specimen type then tick the required tests.

5 4. In the case of Microbiology orders ONLY you will be prompted for antibiotic therapy details. Select the antibiotics from the drop down lists as appropriate. 5. In the case of SWABs and MSU URINE you will be prompted to select the Body Site eg. MID STREAM URINE 6. There is no Other field if the test you require is not on the page you must order it using the manual form. 7. At this point you can continue adding specimens or click Review to check what is ordered so far. Note: at any point you can cancel the entire order by clicking Cancel Order. 8. When you click Review the order is summarised as below. To change the test or remove the specimen click Edit. From here you can also add another specimen, commit the order or cancel. If the order is complete click Commit Order.

6 9. When you click Commit Order a message box appears as below, giving the number of specimens to send to the hospital. 10. Click OK and the order form will be sent to print. If your default printer is selected, click Print.

7 11. When the form has printed click the X in the corner of the screen to close. The order has now been sent to the Hospital System. 12. A page will then print, containing the order and a barcode this page needs to be placed in the bag with the patient s samples and sent to the hospital. The hospital scan this barcode and the patient s tests and information appear on the hospital system. 13. If you are not prompted for a print page as above if you go to Tools at the top of your internet page and down to Internet Options, then to Privacy and make sure that Turn on Pop-up Blocker is NOT ticked.

8 Searching for Orders Users can retrieve orders that have been submitted to the Hospital. You may need to do this to check what was ordered for a particular patient or to reprint an order form. Click on Search across the top menu. When the Search form opens, select Message Type, Lab Order from the list and click the Search button.

9 This will retrieve all Lab Orders placed. Alternatively you can narrow the search by Patient Name by entering the First or Surname in the fields provided. If there are any problems with the specimen, an acknowledgement will be sent. You can also search for these acknowledgements by clicking Search, then select Message Type and Lab Order Acknowledgement.
