1 Issue: USB driver conflict between our USB board and HP digital TV Tuner firmware Reason: Every USB device has its own VID and PID. It s very rare but sometimes it happens that the VID or/and PID numbers of our USB board and those of other vendor s USB device are the same. In this case, the Windows OS doesn t recognize our USB board or recognize it as other vendor s USB device. Solution: This USB driver conflict can be solved by reconfiguring the system setup information file (INF and PNF) and the registry keys. Please follow the instruction below. If you have the HP digital TV Tuner device in your computer and must use this device on the computer, then you cannot use our USB spectrometer on it. (1) When installing our USB device for the first time: 1. Plug the USB spectrometer into your computer after installing SM32Pro. If the OS shows the Found New Hardware message for the HP digital TV Tuner firmware loader, then your OS has the setup information file for this device. 2. When the Found New Hardware Wizard pops up, check the No, not this time and click the Next button.

2 3. The Found New Hardware Wizard will display the following window. Check the Install from a list or specific location (Advanced) and click Next button. 4. Check Don t search. I will choose the driver to install and click Next button.

3 5. On the Model list, check CVI SPECTRAL PRODUCTS USB2.0 PORT and click Next button. 6. Click Continue Anyway button when the Found New Hardware Wizard shows the following pop-up message. 7. Follow the same process for the second driver file (EZ-USB2) installation.

4 (2) When the USB spectrometer was previously installed and the USB driver conflict occurred suddenly: 1. If the USB spectrometer had been functioning but suddenly stopped working after upgrading Windows OS service package, then the registry keys and the system setup information file should be reconfigured. First open the windows explorer and go to windows INF folder. In general, the location is C:\Windows\inf. If you don t see this inf folder, check the Show hidden files and folders in the Folder Options setting window (Tool -> Folder Options -> click the View tap). Also unselect the Hide extensions for known file types. 2. Then, click CTRL + F in this folder for file search and choose All files and folders. 3. In the Search mode, put HP digital TV in the A word or phrase in the file: searching blank and click Search.

5 4. If the windows explorer locates some inf files, change the extension name of the files found to inf_old or something similar. 5. After renaming, go to the Windows/inf folder again. If there are PNF file with the same name of the INF files found at step 4, change the extension of the PNF to PNF_old or something similar. 6. Disconnect the USB cable if it is still plugged into the computer. Open the Registry Editor (Start -> Run -> type regedit and click OK) and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SYSTEM -> CurrentContrlSet -> Enum -> USB and find out and delete the Vid_04b4&Pid_8613 folder. If the OS doesn t allow deleting this folder, then you have to change the permission property of this folder. To do this, you must have administrator authority. Click the right button of the mouse on the Vid_04b4&Pid_8613 folder and select Permissions. It will pop up the Permissions setting window. Check the Allow of the Full Control and click OK. After this setting, you can delete this folder. Keep in mind that you must only delete this folder.
