1 How to Collect DataCore Performance Data using the Windows Performance Monitor 1. Depending on the Windows Server OS installed, go to Start>All Programs>DataCore>Performance Monitor Configuration or Start>Apps>DataCore>Performance Monitor Configuration 2. Click Yes on the User Account Control Popup if UAC is enabled. 3. Click OK to Start DcsPerfmonAgent service, if prompted. Page 1 of 9

2 4. Log In to the console. 5. To create a data collector set by clicking Open Data Collector Panel. 6. Click New data collector set. Page 2 of 9

3 7. Enter a meaningful data collector set name and click Create. 8. Click Save and Close. 9. Add the Counters by selecting the Category then Instance then Counters requested by DataCore Support, then click Add. Page 3 of 9

4 The added counters will appear like this: Now add all the counters from one Category and click Add, e.g. if we need to record Pool latency add the following: Category: Disk pools ================================= Instances: All instances Counters: - Maximum Time / Read - Maximum Time / Write If counters from more than one category are needed, after adding counters from the first category, select the next Category/Instances/Counters and click Add again. Add only the counters you need, the more counters are used, the faster the Windows Performance Monitor file will grow when data is being collected. We suggest aiming for no more than 50 counters if possible. After adding the counters (multiple counters from multiple categories may be added to the same Data Set), it should appear something like this, with all the added counters in the lower half of the screen: Page 4 of 9

5 10. To add this to your My Performance Monitor Data Collector Panel click Open Data Collector Panel. 11. Select the Data Set Collection currently being configured (e.g. My Performance Monitor in this case). Page 5 of 9

6 12. Select ALL the Counters in the list at the bottom of the screen using the Shift Key. 13. Right Click on the selection and click Add to Data Collector. The counters will now added to My Performance Monitor Data Set and appear in the upper part of the screen: Page 6 of 9

7 14. Click Save to add all the counters to My Performance Monitor. 15. To start recording the counters saved in the Data Collector Set, open Start>All Programs>Performance Monitor or Start>Apps>Performance Monitor Page 7 of 9

8 16. Only for SANsymphony and earlier version - Change the DataCore Performance Monitor agent (on all DataCore servers) to collect data every 2 seconds as follows: Click the Start button. In the Start Menu Search box type regedit and press Enter. If prompted by User Access Control, click Yes to open the Registry Editor. Locate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\DcsPerfmonAgent Right-Click this key for a Pop-Up and select New to add the DWORD Create a DWORD called PollInterval and give it a value of 2000 (decimal) Close the registry editor 17. Stop and start the DataCore Performance Monitor Agent Service (DcsPerfmonAgent) service 18. Now change the collection frequency of Windows Performance monitor to be every 2 seconds also as follows: Under Data Collector Sets expand User Defined and select My Performance Monitor. Right click on Performance Counters and select Properties. Change Sample Interval to 2 seconds from the default of 15 seconds and click OK. 19. Enable the recording by right clicking on My Performance Monitor and click Start. Page 8 of 9

9 The *.BLG file will be saved on the Output Location stated on screen, make a note of this as it will be needed later. Once the collection process has started, the icon should now look like this (with red arrow): 20. Run for a minute. Open file. Check all counters are not blank. Close file 21. Disable the recording when asked to by DataCore Support, by right clicking on My Performance Monitor and clicking Stop. 22. Locate the BLG file and attach a copy of it to the call. Page 9 of 9
