4 1 First This document provides the steps to use when upgrading CF-51xxxxExx, CF-51xxxxMxx, CF-51xxxxFxx, and CF-51xxxxNxx (CF-51mk3 Series) from the Microsoft Windows XP Professional operating system to Windows Vista. * Before upgrading, please confirm information such as restrictions after upgrading to Windows Vista in the web page of "Windows Vista support evaluation information". Windows Vista Support and Upgrade Information In addition, please begin upgrading after printing this document out beforehand. *) Windows Vista is either a registered trademark or trademark of Microsoft Corporation in the United States and/or other countries. In this document, Windows Vista is referred as Windows Vista or Windows. 4

5 2 Upgrading to Windows Vista 2-1 Steps for upgrading to Windows Vista Please perform upgrading with the following steps by all means. The procedure described in this guide introduces the update steps for preinstalled application and drivers. 2-2 Detail procedure for upgrading All of the steps (Download the upgrade programs, extracting files, and installing the drivers and applications) should be done by the same administrator account. Step 1 Preparations that are necessary for upgrading OS: Windows XP Prepare following items before upgrading. AC Adaptor Connect to your PC when upgrading. Battery Pack Insert to your PC when upgrading. MP Floppy Disk Drive (For BIOS updating) 2HD Floppy Disk (For BIOS updating) MP DVD Drive Setup DVD-ROM for Windows Vista Business or Ultimate Product Recovery DVD-ROM for your PC. Additional RAM module We strongly recommend 1 gigabytes (GB) of RAM or higher. Information for Windows Vista about the applications that you installed to this PC and the peripherals you use for your PC. Step 2 Backup Important Data OS; Windows XP You should back up files that you created in the hard drive to a safe location (to the external media external hard drive, memory card, re-writable DVD and so on), before upgrading to Windows Vista. Some settings for the applications cannot be succeeded the settings which are set on the Windows XP. Please write down the necessary settings before upgrading. And set the necessary setting again after setup Windows Vista and the applications for Windows Vista. 5

6 Step 3 Downloading the programs for upgrading and extracting to the hard drive OS Windows XP Download the update programs for your PC from the Support Web, and save them to the hard drive or external media (e.g. external hard drive, memory card, rewritable DVD and so on). The files are different depending on the model (Refer the following table.). Please download the files of the corresponding model on the download page of each model. Model name Update programs for drivers and applications *) File name «bios_51_3h_r070014(.exe)» is displayed as bios_51_3h_r without file extention and displayed as bios_51_3h_r exe with file extension on Windows Explorer. Extracts all of the downloaded files according to the following procedure. (1) Double-click the downloaded file. (2) When the license agreement appears, read carefully the license agreements, and then click [Yes(Y)]. (3) When the [Destination Location] screen appears. You don t need to change from default destination. Enter the folder on the hard drive of the PC when you change the destination of extracting BIOS update program. Default destination for BIOS Update program is [c:\upbios] and for the Driver, application program, the default destination is [c:\vistaup]. Click [OK]. If you extract more than one update program for Driver and Application, the message [c:\vistaup already exists. ] may appear. Click [OK]. (4) Wait up to 30 seconds, then the extracting finishes. The extracting destination for BIOS update program is automatically browses. About the update program for Driver and application, the message [Unpacking of files completed.] appears when extracting finishes. Click [OK]. Download GLAN driver You should update to new Marvell GLAN driver downloaded from the following WEB site and update it. 1. Access to 6

7 2. Search the newest driver and download it. Select [PC Connectivity] in Product category, [Yukon] in Product Family, and [Vista x86] in Platform and click [Submit] If you use Windows Vista Inbox driver, Bluescreen may occur. Step 4 Update of BIOS OS: Windows XP / DOS NOTE You need to know user password or supervisor password of setup utility if it is set. Furthermore, you need to know the log-on password of Windows administrator to update the BIOS. 1) Save the settings of your computer (1) Restart (or turn on) the computer. (2) Enter the setup utility by pressing "F2" while "Panasonic" boot screen is displayed. If password is set, enter your password. (3) Take notes of the necessary settings. All settings will be cleared after update of BIOS. (4) Clear the Supervisor Password at Security menu of the setup utility. 2) Check the BIOS version in your computer. (1) In the "Information" menu, check the BIOS version at the "BIOS" item. If the BIOS version is same as below, you do not need to update it. Current version of BIOS and the version of Updated BIOS is : Model name BIOS version (Before) BIOS version (After) CF-51xxxx[E/M]xx V3.00L11, V3.00L12 V3.00L24 V3.00L20, V3.00L21,V3.00L21 CF-51xxxx[F/N]xx V3.50L10, V3.50L12, V3.50L13 V3.50L14 (2) Press "F10", and press "Enter" to restart your computer. 3) Preparations Prepare a 2HD blank-floppy disk in order to make Update Disk. Replace with FD drive (MP Floppy) if other drive is installed in Multimedia Pocket of CF-51. 4) Make Update Disk CAUTION When executing "MKBUPFD.EXE", do not execute other programs or do not enter the standby or hibernation mode. (1) Log on to Windows with administrator authority. (2) Insert a 2HD blank-floppy disk in the FDD. (3) Double-click the "MKBUPFD.EXE" in the extracted folder (C:\upbios). 7

8 (4) Select "Creating disk" and select "Start". (5) Be sure that the 2HD blank-floppy is set in the FDD, and select "OK". (6) The following message will be displayed. "This disk is not BIOS Update FD. Do you want to make BIOS update FD? (7) Select "OK". After formatting the disk, necessary files will be copied to the floppy disk. The following message will be displayed. "Disk created completely." (8) Select "Done", and shutdown Windows. (9) Eject the Update Disk from the FDD and set the protect slider of it to protect the data. CAUTION The "Update Disk" can be used on the specified model of CF-51 series. Do not use it on other computers. 5) Change the settings of your computer (if boot order of MP floppy is changed) (1) Restart ( or turn on ) your computer, and enter the setup utility by pressing "F2" while "Panasonic" boot screen is displayed. (2) In the "Boot" menu, confirm that "MP Floppy" is shown on the top of the list. If not, select "MP Floppy" and press "F6" so that "MP Floppy" is located on the top. (3) Insert the Update Disk on the FDD, Press "F10", and press "Enter". The computer restarts and boot from the Update Disk. 6) Update BIOS IMPORTANT Before updating the BIOS, connect the AC adaptor, insert the battery pack and the floppy disk drive correctly, and confirm any peripheral (e.g. PC card) except the floppy disk drive is NOT connected. (1) (After you insert the "Update Disk" in the FDD and turn on your CF-51 series computer.) If one of the following messages is displayed, press "Enter". System will be turned off automatically. In this case, you might have used wrong "Update Disk". Confirm your computer's model name located on the bottom of the computer and use correct "Update Disk". This utility can be used only for Panasonic note PC (CF-51) Hit Enter key to exit this utility. or This utility is not for this model. Hit Enter key to exit this utility. (2) The following message will be displayed. MESSAGE This utility updates the BIOS. Do you want to continue? Press Y(Yes) or N(No). => _ (3) Press "Y". 8

9 (4) The following message will be displayed. MESSAGE Make sure the AC adapter is firmly connected to the system and outlet. Make sure that a charged battery pack is installed in the system. Enter=OK ESC=Cancel Confirm the battery pack is installed, and the AC adaptor is connected. (5) Press "Enter". (6) The following message will be displayed. Confirm the "NEW VERSION" is same as shown below. FILE LOAD MACHINE NAME : CF-51MK3 ROM SIZE : LOADED BYTES : CURRENT VERSION : 3.00-L23 <- old version NEW VERSION : 3.00-L24 Are you sure? (Y/N) _ (7) Press "Y". (8) The following message will be displayed. MESSAGE IMPORTANT! DO NOT TOUCH ANY KEYS OR BUTTONS DURING AN UPDATE. Otherwise your system may be damaged. Do you want to continue? Press Y(Yes) or N(No). => _ (9) Press "Y" on the keyboard, and BIOS will be updated. CAUTION Do not touch keyboard or power switch during the BIOS update. It may cause malfunction. (10) After finishing the BIOS update, a message will be displayed. MESSAGE The BIOS has been updated. Hit ANY Key to shutdown. (11) Remove the "Update Disk", press "Enter". System will be turned off automatically. (12) Eject the Update Disk from the FDD and remove the FDD from the computer. 7) Restore the settings of your PC 9

10 Restore the settings which are noted in 1) Save the settings of your computer. (1) Turn on the computer. (2) The following message will be displayed. ERROR 0251: System CMOS checksum bad Default configuration used (3) Press F2, enter the setup utility. (4) Press F9, and select Yes and Enter to set default. (5) Set System Time and System Date at Main menu of the setup utility. (6) Set Supervisor Password or User Password, if necessary. (7) Restore the necessary settings. (8) Press "F10", and press "Enter". Step 5 Uninstallation of Windows XP applications OS: Windows XP Uninstall the programs that do not work on the Windows Vista environment, and the programs that cause the problems for upgrading to Windows Vista. Caution Intel PROSet for Windows Vista is not released. The following functions are not supported on Windows Vista. EAP-MD5 EAP-SIM EAP-TTLS CCX CKIP LEAP EAP-FAST EAP-PEAP-GTC Pre-Logon Connect Persistent Connect CCKM If you need to use these functions You should not upgrade to Windows Vista. [Only for model with Smart Card Reader] Caution Gemplus Smartcard reader driver for Windows Vista is not released now. (as of Feb ) If you would like to use SmartCard, do not upgrade you PC to Windows Vista until the driver for Windows Vista is released.. If you upgrade to Windows Vista and use SmartCard reader, Bluescreen may occur. (1) Programs that should not be uninstalled. Do not uninstall the following applications. After upgrading to Windows Vista, update version for Windows Vista can be downloaded from the WEB site and install it. The update version of the following applications will be able to download in the end of February. (free of charge) B's Recorder GOLD8 B's Clip6 B s Clip should not be uninstalled on Windows Vista before installing the update program downloaded from B.H.A Homepage. If you uninstall the old version of B s Clip on Windows Vista, the DVD drive cannot be recognized. 10

11 (2) Uninstall the programs that should be uninstalled manually. Some applications that you installed on the Windows XP environment may cause the trouble when upgrading. Uninstall these programs manually before setup Windows Vista. Following applications preinstalled on CF-51mk3 Series should be uninstalled. Infineon TPM Professional Package Security setting utility for TPM Chip. If you upgrade your PC to Windows Vista without uninstalling this program, the setup of Windows Vista doesn t proceed properly and setup doesn t finish. You should uninstall it before upgrading to Windows Vista. 1) Select Control Panel - Add or Remove Programs -[Infineon TPM Professional Package] 2) Click [Change/Remove], and follow the onscreen instructions. 3) If [Infineon Security Platform Setup tool] window is open, click [OK]. Caution Infineon TPM Professional Package for Windows Vista is not released now. (as of Feb ) If you would like to use this program, do not upgrade you PC to Windows Vista until Infineon TPM Professional Package for Windows Vista is released. Infineon TPM Professional Package for Windows Vista will be uploaded on the Support information Home Page. If you upgrade your PC to Windows Vista without uninstalling this program, the setup of Windows Vista doesn t proceed properly and setup doesn t finish. You should Re-enroll your fingerprints if you used "Advanced Security" with TPM and uninstall it before upgrading to Windows Vista. If you forgot the Windows logon password for the administrator account, please change the password at [Control Panel] [User Accounts] [Change your Windows password] screen before uninstalling Protector Suite QL. Re-enroll your fingerprints if you used "Advanced Security" with TPM a) Click [Start] [All Programs] [Protector Suite QL] [Control Center] b) Click [Fingerprints] [Enroll or Edit Fingerprints]. c) At [User Enrollment] screen, click [Next]. d) At [Verify] screen, swipe your finger or enter Windows password, and then click [Next >] e) Uncheck [Run interactive tutorial], and click [Next] - [Next] - [Next]. f) At [Advanced Security] screen, uncheck [Enable Advanced Security for the current user], and then click [Next>]. g) At [Finalization] screen, click [Finish]. h) Close [Protector Suite Software] window. a) Select [Control Panel] - [Add or Remove Programs] - [. b) Click [Change], select [Remove], and click [Next]. c) Select [] and click [Next]. d) Click [Next]. e) When the message [ 11

12 * After you uninstalled all applications that are necessary to uninstall, restart Windows. (3) Execute Panasonic Applications Uninstaller. This program uninstalls pre-installed Panasonic Applications and other drivers automatically. Click [Start - [Run], enter [C:\VistaUp\PSUninstall.exe], and click [OK]. When [Please, close all applications and windows except for this utility.] appears, close all working applications, and then click [OK]. The main window for [Panasonic Applications Uninstaller] appears. At the message [Be sure to do the following before clicking NEXT> ], confirm the messages and do the necessary preparation, and click [Next>]. (1) Confirm [Wireless LAN is ON] by checking Wireless Switch Utility on the Task Bar, (2) Double-click the PROSet icon on the task bar, and uncheck the Show Information Notifications and Show a list of available networks when not connected boxes using [Tools] [Application Settings ] [Advanced Settings]. (3) close the resident applications that open windows on the desktop. When the message [Once started, you can t stop the auto uninstall process, are you sure you want to start the auto uninstall process ] appears, click [Yes]. When the re-confirmation message appears, click [OK]. When [The auto uninstall process is working.] appears, automatic uninstallation is in progress. 12

13 Do not touch anything, including the keyboard, the touch pad, or the touchscreen until the uninstall process is completed. At the confirmation message The auto unistall process is completed,...do you want to restart your computer now?, click [Yes]. Windows restarts. When [Welcome to the Found New Hardware Wizard] window is displaying, close it. Execute [Panasonic Applications Uninstaller] by repeat 1) - 2). If the message [There are no applications to be uninstalled] appears, click [OK]. If an error occurs during uninstallation or windows reboots before the program completes all of uninstallation, these programs are listed on the window. Then retry from 4) until the message [There are no applications to be uninstalled] appears. 10) If the [Found New Hardware Wizard] screen appears, click [Cancel]. Step 6 Upgrade to Windows Vista OS: Windows XP -> Windows Vista After that, keep following terms until all of the procedure finishes. - The AC adaptor is connected and the fully charged battery pack is inserted. - Any peripheral (if not described in this procedure to connect it) is not connected. - The LAN cable or the Modem Cable is not connected. - The LAN, Wireless LAN and Modem connections are keep disconnected until [Step 9 Windows Update]. Insert the Windows Vista Setup DVD to the DVD drive. [Install Windows] screen appears automatically. 13

14 If the autorun program does not open the [Install Windows screen], click [Start] [Computer] and browse to the root folder of the DVD and double click [setup(.exe)] At [Install Windows] screen, click [Install now]. At [Get important updates for installation] Window, click Do not get the latest updates for installation. At [Type your product key for activation] window, input the product key written on the disc holder inside the Windows package, then click [Next. 14

15 At [Please read the license terms] window, carefully read the license terms and add a check mark for [I accept the license terms], and then click [Next]. At [Which type of installation do you want?] window, click [Upgrade (recommended)] to perform an upgrade to your existing installation of Windows. [Checking compatibility...] window appears. If the message [Potential issues were detected with installed applications/devices] appears, click [Next]. 15

16 <Additional Information> If you click the link [Click here for more information], the detail information about the applications or drivers which the setup program for Windows Vista detects the potential problems. Following programs may appear, but you don t need to uninstall them. B s Recorder GOLD8 ATI Catalyst Control Center (CF51mk3 High model only) Windows Messenger 5.1 SigmaTel Audio Control Panel <Caution> If the message [You must make the following changes before installing Windows] appears at the [Compatibility Report] screen, you cannot proceed setup until you uninstall it before setup. If this message appears, cancel the setup and uninstall the all of displayed programs, and then start setup again from the procedure #(1). The message [Upgrading Windows...] appears and starts upgrading. 16

17 It takes about 1 or 2 hours for upgrading and restart two or three times. It is especially no operation during the upgrade proceeds. (If you set the setup password, it is necessary to enter the password when the PC restarts.) When the message [Help protect Windows automatically] appears, click [Use recommended settings. At the [Review your time and date settings] screen, confirm time zone and set if needed. Confirm date and time, set them if needed, and then click Next. When the message [Thank you] appears, eject the Setup DVD-ROM form the DVD drive, and click [Start]. Windows confirms the system performance. Wait for a while until the process is complete. At the logon Screen, you should log on as the administrator account who extracted the upgrade programs. If the existing account is only one and password is not set, the logon screen doesn t appear. Desktop for Windows Vista appears. It takes for a while after the desktop appears that the initial settings finishes. Do not touch the keyboard and the touchpad until the HDD access completely stops. 17

18 Installing update modules for Windows OS: Windows Vista Click Start - Computer, and then browse [C:\VistaUp\msupdate\q929685] folder. Double-click Windows6.0-KB x86(.msu) (displayed [Microsoft Update Standalone Package] as [Type]). At the [User Account Control] screen, click [Continue]. At the [Windows Update Standalone Installer screen, Click [OK]. When the message [Installation complete] appears, click [Close]. Click [Start] [Computer, and then browse [C:\VistaUp\msupdate\q929762] folder. Double-click Windows6.0-KB x86(.msu) (displayed [Microsoft Update Standalone Package] as [Type]). At the [User Account Control] screen, click [Continue. When the [Windows Update Standalone Installer message appears, click [OK]. If the message [Installation complete] appears, click [Restart Now]. Windows restarts. Install drivers for Windows Vista OS: Windows Vista (1) Install Touchpad driver Click [Start] [Computer] and browse [C:\VistaUp\drivers\mouse] folder. Double-click setup(.exe). At the [User Account Control] screen, click [Continue]. When the message [Error A previous version of the Synaptics Touchpad Driver is installed, If you continue installation, the diver may not install properly, Continue?] appears, click [Yes]. When the message [Welcome] appears, click [Next]. When the message [Setup complete] appears, click [Finish]. When the message [You must restart your computer to apply these changes] appears, close the all windows and click [Restart Now]. Install Video Driver Click [Start] [Computer] and browse [C:\VistaUp\drivers\video] folder. Double-click 7-1_vista32_dd_ccc_enu_41241(.exe). At the [User Account Control] screen, click [Continue]. At the [Catalyst: Installation Folder] screen, click [Install]. At, and then click 18

19 At the [End User License Agreement] screen, read the license agreement carefully, and then click []. At the [Specify folder to install to.] screen, click [Yes] Installation of the driver starts. When the message[finished] appears, click Finish When the message [Would you like to reboot now ] appears, click [Yes]. After Windows restart, click [Start] - [Control Panel] - [Appearance and Personalization] - [Adjust screen resolution], change the desired display resolution, and click [OK]. 1) Click [Start] [Computer], and then browse [C:\VistaUp\drivers\video] folder 2) Double-click setup(.exe). 3) At [User Account Control] screen, click [Allow]. 4) At the [Intel Graphics Media Accelerator Driver], click [Next]. 5) At the [License Agreement] screen, read carefully the license agreement, and then click [Yes]. 6) At the [Readme File Information] screen, click [Next]. 7) When the message [Setup Complete] appears, click [Next]. 8) When the message [Would you like to restart the computer now ] appears, select [Yes, I want to restart this computer now.] and click [Finish]. When restarting, System performance evaluation tool for Windows Vista may automatically execute. Wait until the process finishes. 9) After the PC restarts, browse [C:\VistaUp\drivers\video] folder again. 10) Right-click intelvga(.bat) displayed [Windows Batch File] as [Type]) and select [Run as administrator]. 11) At the [User Account Control] screen, click [Continue]. After Windows restart, click [Start] - [Control Panel] -[Appearance and Personalization] - [Adjust screen resolution], change the desired display resolution, and click [OK]. 13) Right-click the desktop, and click [Graphics Properties]. 14) Click [Display Settings] - [Power Settings]. 15) Delete the check mark for [Intel(R) Display Power Saving Technology] and click [OK]. Install LAN driver * You should update to new Marvell GLAN driver downloaded from the following WEB site. If you haven t download, download it after installation of all drivers and network setting is finished. Click [Start] [Control Panel] [System And Maintenance]. Click Device Manager]. When the message User Account Control appears, click Continue Double-click [Network Adapters] Right-click [Marvell Yukon 88E8053 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller]. Click [Update Driver Software] Click [Browse my Computer for driver software] 19

20 When the message [Browse for driver software on your Computer] appears, enter the folder name of When the message [Windows has successfully Updated your driver softwere] appears, click [close]. Only for model with Wireless LAN Install Wireless LAN driver. Click [Start] [Computer], and browse [C:\VistaUp\drivers\wlan\Drivers] folder. Double-click iprodifx(.exe). displayed [Application] as [Type]) At the [User Account Control] screen, click [Continue]. [Intel(R) PRO/Wireless driver installer] screen appears and the driver installation starts. When the [Intel(R) PRO/Wireless driver installer] closes, installation completes. [Only for model with Bluetooth] Install Bluetooth driver. 1) Click Start -[Computer] and browse [C:\VistaUp\drivers\bluet] folder. 2) Double-click setup(.exe). 3) At the [User Account Control] screen, click [Continue]. 4) When the message [Welcome to the InstallShield Wizard for Bluetooth Stack for Windows by Toshiba] appears, click [Next]. 5) At the [License Agreement] screen, read carefully the license agreement, select [I accept the terms in the License agreement], and click [Next>]. When the message [Ready to begin the installation.] appears, click [Install]. During the installation, other window opens. Do nothing and wait a while. If the message [Please plug in the Bluetooth device and click OK button], click [cancel]. When the message [InstallShield Wizard Completed] appears, click [Finish]. When the message [You must restart your system for the configuration changes made to Bluetooth Stack for ] appears, click [Yes]. Restart Windows. If [Automatic Registration] screen appears, check [Don t show this window next time] and close the window. Install Sound driver Click [Start] [Computer] and browse [C:\VistaUp\drivers\sound] folder. Double-click setup(.exe) displayed [Application] as [Type]) At the [User Account Control] screen, click [Continue]. When [Welcome to the InstallShield Wizard ] appears, click [Next>]. Installation of the driver starts. When the message [InstallShield Wizard Complete] appears, click [Finish].
