1 Agilent Technologies Network Analyzer Release Notes for the General Availability (GA) Release Version Welcome to the release of Network Analyzer These release notes list new features, defect fixes, and issues and known problems for the Network Analyzer software. Follow the instructions in this document, or refer to the Document Library on the installation DVD for installation/upgrade and setup information. To upgrade software on the DNA PRO or DNA MX systems, Agilent recommends using Instrument Manager. Refer to the Network Analyzer online Help for detailed information about using the software. 2 Installation Notes If you have received these release notes with a physical shipment of software and/or hardware, refer to the online AnalyzerSetup Guide found in the Document Library on the installation DVD that came with your products for complete installation and setup information. You can also find hardware setup instructions in the Setup Guide. When you examine the contents of the DVD using Windows Explorer, you will see a folder structure that shows each of the products that can be installed from the DVD: Double-click the file called Readme.htm for additional information. For additional documentation, open the Network Analyzer Solutions Documentation folder and double-click the file CD_Start.exe to open the Document Library. If you received these release notes with software distributed electronically by your Agilent Sales or Support Representative, please refer to Installation Instructions for Electronically Distributed Software later in this document for software installation instructions. Regardless of how you received the software, please refer to the following sections before installing software. General Information You are not required to manually uninstall Network Analyzer or Signaling Analyzer software. However, if you plan to manually uninstall Network Analyzer and/or Signaling Analyzer software by using the Start->Control Panel->Add or Remove Programs option, be sure to remove both Network Analyzer and Signaling Analyzer before you install ANY new software. 3 In general, it is a good idea to keep your host computer operating system service pack level up-to-date and apply all the important Microsoft OS patches. In particular, please make sure the non-paged pool issue and fix included in the Win2003 Service Pack 2 ( has been installed. Some problems have been reported with Network Analyzer installs that are accessed remotely or that access the Multi-User Server. Acrobat Reader Installation Information Along with the Network Analyzer software, you might need to install the Acrobat Reader on your PC or on your DNA MX or DNA PRO. Acrobat Reader is required to enable certain parts of the documentation installed with the Network Analyzer software. Once you have installed the Network Analyzer software, refer to the online Analyzer Setup Guide (part of the Document Library) for Acrobat Reader installation instructions. 4 Installation Instructions for Electronically Distributed Software Use the following instructions for software distributed electronically by your Agilent Sales or Support Representative. Installing/Upgrading Software on a PC Obtain the Network Analyzer software from your Agilent Representative. To install/upgrade this software, follow these steps: 1. Unzip the na full.zip file to a convenient location on your PC. 2. Double-click the na full.exe file. 3. When the installation completes, start the Network Analyzer application and use the Help About option to verify that your Network Analyzer software version is Firmware Update on DNAs Remember to update the firmware on any Distributed Network Analyzers (DNAs) connected to your PC to match the Network Analyzer Software version for proper operation. If you connect to a DNA after a software update, the Network Analyzer application automatically does a file synchronization to update the firmware on the DNA. Refer to your Network Analyzer online Help for more information about updating firmware. Installing/Upgrading Software on a DNA PRO and DNA MX The DNA PRO and DNA MX must have Windows XP Embedded SP2. The Network Analyzer Software image must be or later. Software must be installed using the Instrument Manager. Note: To use the installation method below, the existing software on the DNA MX or DNA PRO must be or later. Contact your Agilent sales or support representative if you need more information. Obtain the Network Analyzer DNA-MX/DNA-PRO software version from your Agilent Representative. Follow the method below to upgrade the software to Unzip the na full.zip file to a convenient location on the PC on which the Agilent Instrument Manager is installed. 2. Start Instrument Manager and add the instrument using the Add Instrument button. 3. Select the instrument from the main view and click the SW Update button. You can upgrade software on multiple instruments by pressing Ctrl + click. 4. Click the Browse button to find the.exe file that you placed on your PC. 5. Click OK to apply the software update. Firmware Update on DNAs When you have daisy-chained Distributed Network Analyzers (DNAs) that are connected to a DNA MX or DNA PRO, the firmware update happens at the time of installation instead of the first connection time. 5 Issues Addressed This section lists all the issues that are resolved with this release ( ). Issue Number Title Network Analyzer now allows filtering per port on two-port PPP data file when performing Display Filtering in the Decode view Hardware Capture Filter Files now work properly when capturing Iu and Iub traffic using 4-port STM-1 DNAs LMI statistics now work properly on Frame Relay over OC12 (with 32 bit FCS) The File Translator utility now runs properly (and persists) on DNA MX and DNA PRO test devices Time Sync Data File Merge Utility now has a Start menu shortcut and will run properly on DNA MX and DNA PRO test devices. 6 Issues and Known Problems The following list describes known operational and analysis issues that exist in this release. Unless explicitly stated, issues and known problems from previous releases may still exist, but are not listed here. Please refer to previous copies of the release notes for additional information. Title: Incorrect utilization values for the J6810B LIM. Description: Network Analyzer ATM Utilization values for the J6810B LIM in Demux mode are not reliably correct when monitoring E1 or T1 Tributaries. However, utilization values are correct for this LIM when it is in 4 Port OC3 mode (J6810B connected to a J6828A Multiplexer) and also when monitoring OC3/STM-1 Bulk traffic. The Utilization values are correct in all modes for L1/L2 Vitals SART Measurement. Workaround: None. Primary/Related TTI: and While it is possible to run the Network Analyzer software on the new Microsoft Vista operating system with no issues, this is not recommended. Agilent has not fully tested this software with the new Vista operating system. The Network Analyzer ATM AAL-5 SSCOP STAT/POLL/etc. hardware capture filters may inadvertently suppress ALCAP/NBAP/RANAP or RNSAP signaling messages. Workaround: Do not use the ATM AAL-5 SSCOP hardware capture filters to suppress these frames. Instead use the Signaling Analyzer client software filters. Primary / Related TTI: The only Network Analyzer measurements that are supported on the new DNA HD are Decodes, Line Status, and Protocol Vitals. Title: Report Center Compatibility Description: Report Center 5.xx is not compatible with, and not supported by Network Analyzer 6.00 or Workaround: Install Network Analyzer 6.10 and then upgrade to Report Center Primary / Related TTI: None. Title: Memory consumption causes problems. Description: On DNA PRO test platforms that have the wireless telephony option enabled and active, the "AgentConfigServer.exe" process uses an every increasing amount of memory, eventually resulting in a freeze of the Network Analyzer software if it is running. This problem does not occur on the DNA MX.
