1 Truesight Installation 6: APPVISIBILITY COLLECTOR SERVER After the AppVis Portal is installed and configured, we can now install and add the collectors. 2 Pre-Configuration Requirements System Configuration 1. Truesight requires that Remote Desktop Temporary Folders be disabled. a. Open the RUN command and type regedit. b. Navigate to: HKLM/System/CurrentControlSet/Control/Terminal Server c. Set the following: i. PerSessionTempDir = 0 ii. DeleteTempDirsOnExit = SEI 2

3 Truesight AppVisibility Collector Installation After the above pre-configurations are complete, locate the installer for BMC Truesight AppVisibility v This is the installer for both Portal and Collector. 1. Right-click setup.exe and select Run As Administrator. i. The installer goes through a pre-installation checklist. If there are no errors click Next. 2. Agree to the legal mumbo-jumbo and click Next. 3. Check the box to only install the BMC App Visibility Collector : 2012 SEI 3

4 4. Set the Destination Directory to E:\TSAVC and click Next: a. NOTE: just in case, validate the logical drive that contains the most space for the application. 5. Keep the default communication port and click Next: 2012 SEI 4

5 6. Enter the connection information for the Application Visibility Portal created previously and Test the connection. 7. Keep the default FQDN for the Machine Address: 8. Keep the default PostGRE SQL Ports and data retention time but set the data storage to 450GB (this can be changed later) and click Next: 2012 SEI 5

6 9. Confirm the configurations and click Install: 10. When complete, you will see a Successful Install message. Click Done: 11. Once complete, log in to TSPS, click Components and you should see the App Visibility Portal with a single collector connected to it: a. Note: As you add more collectors, the count will go up. Validate the count matches your total number of collectors SEI 6

7 AppVis Collector Admin Console. Similar to the AppVis Portal, we will verify the admin console connection and reset the default admin password to secure the interface. 1. Open a browser to: 2. You will be prompted for a username and password. a. Default username AND password is admin: 3. Once logged in, you can see a bunch of AppVis Collector Configuration settings for log files, health checks, database status, etc: 4. Verify the Portal Link is working (it should take you to the AppVis Portal). 5. Remote into the AppVis Collector Server and open a Command Prompt. a. Go to the directory: <appvis_collector_install>\portal\bin. b. Execute the batch file: passwordhash.bat followed by the documented password you want it changed to. It will dump out a hash of the password (you figure out if that is our real password or not :-D). 6. From Windows Explorer, navigate to <appvis_collector_install>\properties and open the collector.properties file SEI 7

8 7. Locate the section for Admin User name. You now have the option of changing the default user name from Admin to anything you feel like. c. Set the user name. d. Copy the password hash from the command prompt and replace the hash for auth.admin.password: 8. Once the file is saved, restart the AppVis Collector Service for the changes to take effect. 9. Connect to the Portal Console and verify the new username / password work. Change AppVis Collector Default Database Password. Finally, we secure the database by changing the default password. 1. Open a command prompt and navigate to: <appvis_collector_install>\collector\bin\db 2. Type change-db-pgsql-password.bat a. Enter the default password: avpsql b. Enter then re-enter the new documented password and press enter. c. The tool updates the portal.properties file with a the new hash: d. Restart the Portal Service: 2012 SEI 8
