1 Truesight Installation 4: INTEGRATION SERVICE NODES After installing the TSIM server, we can now install the Integration Service Nodes (ISNs). These are what the agents send their data through before reaching the TSIM server. 2 Pre-Configuration Requirements System Configuration 1. Truesight requires that Remote Desktop Temporary Folders be disabled. a. Open the RUN command and type regedit. b. Navigate to: HKLM/System/CurrentControlSet/Control/Terminal Server c. Set the following: i. PerSessionTempDir = 0 ii. DeleteTempDirsOnExit = SEI 2

3 TrueSight Integration Service Node Installation With a TSIM server installed, we are ready for the ISN installations. The instructions below will cover the installation of a single ISN but can be repeated for each ISN. The things to note with each ISN installation: Which Truesight Infrastructure Management Server are you connecting to? o TSIM01 will have ISN o TSIM10 will have ISN What is the Cell Name of each ISN installation: o For ISN01-03 the ISN Cell Names will be: TSISN01, TSISN02 and TSISN03. o For ISN10-12 the ISN Cell Names will be: TSIS10, TSISN11 and TSISN You can grab the ISN Installer two ways: a. Download it from the CMA Repository for Integration Service: b. Copy it from the source installation files of the TSIM server under the TSIM Agent i. Don t confuse the nomenclature agent. BMC likes to call things an agent instead of just the ISN. 2. Once you have it, extract it and run the install.cmd file. 3. The installer goes through a pre-installation checklist. If there are no errors you will be presented with the following. Click Next SEI 3

4 4. Agree to the legal mumbo-jumbo and click Next. 5. Set the Destination Directory to E:\TSISN<ISN Number> (so the directory on ISN01 will be: TSISN01) and click Next: a. NOTE: just in case, validate the logical drive that contains the most space for the application. 6. Keep both features selected for ISN and Cell install: 2012 SEI 4

5 7. Based on the above information and the ISN Host Name, enter the Cell name as a form of the hostname: <ISN_HostName> will have cell name: TSISN01. We are not using High Availability. 8. Keep default ports and click Next: 9. Confirm the Installation Preview and click Install: 2012 SEI 5

6 TrueSight Integration Service Node Integration to TSIM With the installation complete, we now need to get the ISN to communicate with the TSIM server. There are two parts to this integration: CMA Connection Established. ISN Cell Connection Established. CMA Connection Established 1. Log in to TSPS and navigate to the CMA. 2. Click the Servers on the left-hand then select the TSIM server name: 3. On the right-side of the screen you will see a small green plus icon. Click it to add a new Integration Service registration: 4. Enter the following: a. Integration Service Name: FQDN of ISN b. BMC Infrastructure Management Server: There should just be the one. c. DNS Name/ IP Address: Same as FQDN. d. Port Number: Default (12124). e. Events Destination: Click Cell Name and put in the cell name created above for that ISN. f. The rest of the fields aren t touched SEI 6

7 5. Click Add. The ISN will get registered and you should now have the ISN in the list with a green connection icon next to it. If it does not connect, check the names. 6. If there are any Monitoring Agents connect to the ISN, they will show up underneath the ISN. TSIM-to-ISN Cell Connection Established 1. Remote desktop to the Integration Service Node host. 2. Open: <ISN_install_dir>\agent\server\etc\mcell.dir 3. After the last line listing the cell name of the local ISN and FQDN of the host, enter the following: a. Cell <TSIM_Cell_Name> mc <TSIM_FQDN>:1828 b. Save the file and restart the ISN and Cell Services: 4. You will now do a similar action on the TSIM server but instead of adding the cell name of the TSIM server you are adding the cell name of the newly installed ISN. a. Remote desktop to the TSIM Server host. b. Open: <TSIM_install_dir>\agent\server\etc\mcell.dir c. After the last line listing the cell name of the TSIM Server and the FQDN of the host, enter the following: 2012 SEI 7

8 i. Cell <ISN_Cell_Name> mc <ISN_FQDN>:1828 a. Open PW command prompt and run: ii. NOTE: The following is case sensitive & all one line iii. iadmin ac name=<isn_cellname>:key=mc:primaryhost=<isn_hostname>.asm.edel:primary Port=1828:environment=Production:usergroups=* 1. Note: This will need to be done as new cells come online. b. iadmin -lc to view current cell list and validate the command output: a. Similar to the work done in the TSIM server, the above command writes to two files: i. Admin.dir located in <tsim_install_dir>\pw\pronto\data\admin ii. Cell_info.list located in <tsim_install_dir>\pw\pronto\conf 5. Restart the TSIM Cell Services: 2012 SEI 8

9 6. When the cell is restarted, open the TrueSight Java Admin Console Thick Client that you installed at the end of the TSIM installation and configuration. a. Log in to the Admin Console using the FQDN of the TSIM server you are connecting to and your domain username / password: b. Click Edit -> Configure -> Administration Settings from the top menu: c. Click the Impact Managers tab. You should see your newly added ISN Cell in the list of Available Impact Managers in the left window: d. Select My Production on the right-side then select the ISN Name on the left side so they are both highlighted: e. Click the right-arrow to move the ISN Cell to the production container. If you expand My Production you will now see it listed: 2012 SEI 9

10 f. Click Apply and OK. g. Now click the Event Management Policies of the Admin Console and you should now see the ISN Cell in the My Production List. This will allow us to create cell policies in the Post- Installation Configuration document. 7. We now need to add the cell to the TSIM Operations Console. a. Open TSPS and navigate to the TSIM Operations Console. b. On the left-hand navigation, expand Other Cells. c. Next to the Navigation line, click the Options button: d. You can contract the cells by pressing the minus sign -. e. Check the boxes next to the ISN cells that you want to view in the Operations Console: f. Click OK. g. You will now be able to see the events that show up in the cells of your ISN. This is very helpful for troubleshooting event management. 8.
