4 QUICK START This is a Quick start Guide for Neptune VIS. More detailed product information is available by pressing F1 on your keyboard when Neptune is open. System Specification and Requirements Neptune is running with Windows XP Service Pack 3 or higher, and those that have installed the full version of Microsoft and.net Framework version 4.0. INSTALLATION AND SET-UP If the installation does not start automatically, run D:\install.exe and the application will start. Click Install Neptune VIS, and the wizard will begin guiding you through the complete installation. Please follow the on screen instructions and specify all required information. You will find your unique Customer ID number at the back of your Neptune DVD cover. Please verify that all fields are completed with correct values. The wizard will prompt you to verify or enter the software installation folder by default it will be C:\Nautisk\Neptune\Client. An option to create a shortcut to your desktop will be displayed by the installation wizard. The software will now install. 2 NEPTUNE - Getting Started

5 Starting page will give you a full overview what Neptune has to offer. On the top you have a simple snapshot of the vessels current update status. Below you will find different selections for all the tasks that Neptune can perform. NEPTUNE - Getting Started 3

6 UPDATES Update window, top left, will give you access to Paper Charts & Publications and ENC updating service. In the Paper Charts & Publications, you will be able to Download Updates. Selecting the function, Neptune connects to our server for data/updates based on your choices/selections. Using Neptune for the first time, please note that unsuccessful connections are usually caused by restrictions on your network or by poor transmission quality. Please check that your network firewall is open to connect to: Neptune Server Host: ectp.neptune.nautisk.com Neptune Server Port: In case you need to unlock the traffic, please talk to your IT Department. Used for the first time, Neptune downloads the vessels Subscription List. When complete, the Subscription Management window opens. Please confirm your subscription list (a copy of your vessel holdings, confirmed as on board), sign in the space Confirmed by: and press Confirm ). 4 NEPTUNE - Getting Started

7 Once confirmed Reports window will open with your vessel s subscription list. However, if your Neptune database is still empty, please re-enter the Updates window to download your corrections. CONNECTION Specify what sort of connection you are using: Direct or . In effect, this ensures that we will not send you too much data for your bandwidth. We reduce the graphics file sizes so that the most difficult or slow connections will receive a slightly downgraded printing resolution. Some vessels have very limited bandwidth at their disposal. Some might not have an internet browsing connection but rely on to send data ashore. connection is an alternative when internet connection is not possible. The request will be ed to Nautisk from Neptune (based on your settings in Setup ), and corrections received as attachments to s. Direct connection gives the best speed and best experience. 8 The correction package will be split up in several s. The size and number depends on Neptune settings. Remember to save all attachments to C:\ Nautisk\Neptune\Client\eNTM\ folder. Only then a button named import will appear under updates to receive the data. DOWNLOAD SETTINGS Available two options, Updates since last import and updates for specific edition. First time we recommend choose the first option, this will respond to the edition settings you specified during your installation process. However, if the settings you gave dates back further than two weeks, or it has been more than two weeks since your last import, you will receive a warning that this may cause vast amount of data to be downloaded. Thus, it might be better to download week by week by choosing a specific edition, to make sure the download runs smoothly and successfully. When the edition has imported into Neptune, choose to download the next edition. Historical Updates are located on the top of the page. Here you can choose a specific chart/publication and download corrections for that product only - from that product s edition date. Please note that this feature is available for direct connection only. 6 NEPTUNE - Getting Started

9 DOWNLOAD FILTERS When ticked, you download updates to charts and publications from Hydrographic Offices specified in the list. If they are not ticked, you can still download other items, such as documents and chapters under recommended files or optional files. Gives reduced quality but still printable By ticking Digital Product Catalogues below the optional files, you will download the latest available catalogues for ENC-cells. DOWNLOAD PROCESS AND FEEDBACK The following screen will show you available update data. Once chosen what to download press Download Updates. Neptune will connect with the server and will process the request of the package NEPTUNE - Getting Started 7

10 The package has been created and is ready to download. Press yes to download the package. The package is ready box states the amount of and the total size of the update download. Number of NTMs might be zero for one week even if there are files to transfer. These files might be publication replacement pages or subscription change messages. The server is sending the requested package to the vessel. The import status comes up when download is complete showing the files imported. If the same week has to be downloaded again, to improve the graphic quality of the tracings, this will be shown under graphic files updated (normal quality upgrade). If some of the downloaded files are corrupt or incomplete you will be given the option to re-download these later when you enter the entm window. When selecting resume, it will resume downloading. You can start working on data once download is finished, and you can resume the rest of the package later, if preferable. If import of downloaded data indicates corrupt data, you should select create. Confirm that Neptune should delete downloaded files. No previous work you have done in Neptune will be lost or affected if you press the Delete, only the corrupted or un-imported files. ENC UPDATING SERVICE When entering to the page after the permit import please always select Update ENC Catalogue (icon with the two blue arrows) and you will get a complete list of the ENC-cells in your Subscription. The cells are displayed with different colours, for you to easily locate which cell needs to be updated and which are up to date: 8 NEPTUNE - Getting Started

11 New update for this ENC cell is ready to be downloaded ENC update status unknown (locally), you need to download the latest catalogue The ENC cell is up to date You are able to organize and filter your list based on user needs. To the topright, you will find different tools to customize your list. For your convenience, you can also choose to show ENC cells for a specific folio. To download updates for specific ENC-cell, please select the ENC-cell you wish to update, and click on the Add to request button.the server is sending the requested package to the vessel. To remove added ENC cell from your created list by simply double-click on the item you wish to remove. NEPTUNE - Getting Started 9

12 For your convenience, Neptune downloads the cells in the specific order you create, starting on the top and working its way down, so that whenever you need to pause or stop the download, the first cells on your order can be available to you even before the download of the total list is complete. When your list is complete and ready for download, please press Download Updates. Neptune will then process your order and download your updates. When an update has received, you can simply press Clear Downloaded to remove it from the current list. VIEWING entms entm window is found from the Main Menu. If you have just downloaded updates, your entm window will open automatically. The entm window is your main workspace where you can filter your existing and newly downloaded entms, display entm lists and preview the entms for printing.. 10 NEPTUNE - Getting Started

13 FILTERING When opening the entm window, you will always see a list of all uncorrected corrections in your database. You can then apply different filters, listing only products contained in a folio or show corrected corrections in addition to not corrected and so forth. Your filter selections will not be saved. The next time you enter the entm window, you will again be notified of all corrections that still require to be updated. Based on your filters you will see all relevant notices sorted by publication/ chart number and page. Click on the items from this list to view their details and tracing on screen. You can select more than one item. This means you can send all of them to the printer at once. When selecting multiple entms simultaneously, the preview functionality will not be active. 14 PRINTING Most printers have only one paper tray, requiring you to switch from tracing paper to white paper. We have made it easy for you, options: print only text, graphics, or tracings, or to combine the different ones, according to your settings. Remember that you can select multiple items from the list window and send to the printer in one batch, for each paper quality. 15 VESSEL FOLIOS Here you can customise and manage your chart holdings in accordance to your preference. Depending on the volume of charts carried on board, you may wish to adopt a folio system, which will allow you to access charts easily on a voyage by voyage basis.we choose to divide the window/screen into 4 quadrants for ease of explanation. The upper left quadrant is your filtering options and the upper right is the results browser. The two lower quadrants comprise the preview window, where you can view notice details and graphics.the quadrant separators can be moved to resize the views. SUBSCRIPTION Subscription Management window will notify you of delivery from Nautisk Forlag on incoming charts/publications. Changes and new editions will be added/updated automatically from the server. To keep your Subscription Management in order, this window gives you an overview of what new charts/publications are available. The first window on top shows new editions sent from Nautisk Forlag, soon to be received by vessel. The second window shows removed or replaced charts/ publications and the third shows new editions that will soon be shipped from Nautisk Forlag. Note: Whenever you wish to make changes, such as adding and removing charts from your subscription, please contact Nautisk Forlag AS by ing sales@nautisk.com. NEPTUNE - Getting Started 13

16 ORDER PRODUCTS AND LICENSES This feature allows the user to manage ENCS and order new licenses, publications and other products. The map makes it is easy to get an overview by adjusting to satisfy user needs. You can simply double click on the items you wish to purchase, to add them to the shopping basket. Moreover, Internet connection will allow switching between the default offline map and online OpenStreetMaps. REPORTS A list of the various reports can be viewed on the Neptune display, opened in Adobe Reader, printed and saved. The report displayed, charts on board, is showing status colours (red and green). Passive subscriptions have an orange colour. To use status colours and show passive subscriptions re-optional, and can be excluded on the top bar. Neptune also has its own customized version of NP234, which is only showing charts from the vessel s inventory list. NP234 includes status colours and T&Ps in force and cancelled T&Ps. For your convenience, Neptune has a mark all as corrected button in the NP234 report. This will mark historical corrections in this report as corrected (status colour green). 14 NEPTUNE - Getting Started

17 BACKUP Neptune has a built-in functionality for backups with several options. You can choose between a Complete application or Database and data folder only We recommend strongly that frequent backups are being made and stored at a separate component, such as a memory stick in case of a computer crash.
