Using This Guide This document describes the version history and known product-feature issues with suggested resolutions for the OpenLAB Enterprise Content Manager (ECM) system. Who Should Read This Guide? This document is designed for the OpenLAB ECM administrator. Documentation Conventions The following conventions are used in this guide. Convention Bold Italic Monospace ALL CAPITALS Description Database names, table names, column names, menus, commands, dialog box options, and text that must be typed exactly as shown. Placeholders for information you must provide. For example, if you are instructed to type ServerName, then you must type the actual name of the server instead of the italicized term. Programming code samples and display text. Code that is typed on one line but is printed on multiple lines is separated by an underscore (_). Do not type the underscore when typing code. The keys you press on the keyboard. If combined with a plus sign (+), press and hold the first key while you press the remaining key(s). For example, press SHIFT+TAB. Version (October 2010) The following enhancements were made in Version 3.4.1: Completely new ECM server installation program. Added support for the Adobe Acrobat version 9.0 program. Added support for the Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 program. Added support for the Microsoft Windows 7 operating system on ECM Web Client computers. Added support for Microsoft Server 2008 R2. Released version of the ECM API. Added Oracle 11g support. Added support for Microsoft Office Added support for Internet Explorer 8.0. Version (April 2008) The following enhancements were made in Version 3.3.2: Added support for the Adobe Acrobat version 8.0 program. Added support for the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 program. Added support for the Microsoft Vista operating system on ECM Web Client computers. Added support for the Microsoft Office Visio 2007 program. Now can upload files over 2 gigabytes (GB) in size to the ECM system. Version (May 2006) The following enhancement was made in Version 3.3.1: Improved file transfer servers by re-architecting the service that runs them. Version 3.3 (November 2005) The following enhancements were made in Version 3.3: Now support Adobe Acrobat 7.0 for all plug-ins. Improved performance of the Scheduler program. Added the Single Sign On features. Added a new PDF generator in the ECM Print Services program. Improved BPM functionality. Added a generic signature option for electronically signing PDF files. 6 2. Version History Added Windows 2003 Server and Oracle 10g support. Version 3.2 (January 2005) The following enhancements were made in Version 3.2: Added support for the Business Process Manager (BPM) program. The ECM Desktop Client components have been extended to support Microsoft Office Visio 2003 to provide a workflow-modeling tool for designing and configuring BPM workflow templates. To support the capture of structured data, ECM 3.2 integrates with the Adobe electronic PDF forms solution. This integration includes a new PDF form filter pack that can extract key-value pairs from a PDF form file added to the ECM repository. The BPM program is purchased separately. Added support for the ECM SAFE (Secure Access For Everyone) Signature software. The ECM SAFE Signature software is purchased separately. Added ability to use an alternate service port if you don t want to use the defaults of 80 or 443. Version 3.1 (October 2004) The following enhancements were made in Version 3.1: Added the ECM SendTo Add-in for Windows Explorer program to allow the sending of files or folders from Windows Explorer to the ECM program. Added Expiry Date key to Smart Search queries and [File Information.General.Information.Expiry Date] key to Advanced Search queries so you can search for files with a particular record retention expiration date. Added command to change (override) the record retention expiration date for one or more files. You can now use a date/time synonym as an event for expiring a retention class. Added litigation holds functionality to prevent records in an expired record retention class from being deleted. Added Litigation Hold Name key to Smart Search queries and [File Information.General.Information.Litigation Hold Name] key to Advanced Search queries so you can search for files with a particular litigation hold. Added support for external database connections, which allow using dictionaries for running queries. Added TNF (Technology Neutral Format) software to automatically create XML-based AnIML (Analytical Information Markup Language) files from certain analytical proprietary files in a SSIZIP. The new AnIML files are then added to the original SSIZIP without modifying the original files. The TNF software is purchased separately. OpenLAB ECM Release Notes 3

8 2. Version History Version 3.0 (March 2004) The following enhancements were made in Version 3.0: Redesigned the user interface to be similar to the familiar Windows Explorer. Now you can have a portal page in the right-side view pane for access to external content and intranets. Added the Record Retention module for automating approval routing and record destruction. Added synonyms for filter keys; allows user-defined columns in file lists. You can create a common dictionary. Makes searching simpler and easier. Enhanced user-defined keys so you can access other tables and databases, and then prompt end-users with a custom user interface. Added check in and check out capability for secure document and record management. Added BlueStone plug-in to extract scalable vector graphics from a PDF file for use in other applications. Enhanced human-readable PDF templates to scan a page or document for search criteria. Plus, additional capabilities to extract tables and graphics. Enhanced the Scheduler program with a new management architecture. In addition, you can run multiple schedules per scheduled import service simultaneously (multi-threaded). Enhanced server administration, including a central view of the status of all scheduled import, file transfer, and application services. Enhanced search queries. Queries are run in background to allow for multiple searches. New search node saves search results. Added Smart Search query for searching synonyms and general file properties. Enhanced Advanced Search queries to improve ease of use. Enhanced database, including modifying the design for speed improvements. New architecture for enterprise deployments. You can store files locally with a central database and Web servers. Enhanced Audit Trail. Added right-click menus. Enhanced ECM online Help. OpenLAB ECM Release Notes 5

9 2. Version History Version 2.2 (April 2003) The following enhancements were made in Version 2.2: The EMC Centera system is now supported as an archive device. IBM Tivoli and supported devices are now supported as an archive device. The File Transport Service now caches files on the file transport server for improved performance of file downloads and to remove the requirement for multiple IIS virtual directories. The File Transport Service supports file retrieval notification when storage device is delayed in retrieval to the transport cache. Administration pages at CyberLABAdmin.asp provide greater feedback on server status for file transport and application service processing. The Application Service now uses bulk uploads of filtered data to the ECM database for improved performance. The Application Service user interface on the server now provides greater feedback on the filtering of files. Version (August 2003) The following enhancement was made in version 2.1.2: ECM Print Services has replaced the CyberPrinter driver. Version (November 2002) The following enhancements were made in Version 2.1.1: The Scheduler Add-ins page has been modified to support additional add-ins installed on the server at a later time. Help has been modified to support additional ECM components installed on the server later such as new filter packs, scheduled import configuration services, and other options. The Scheduler program has been updated to allow for future Scheduler Agent programs that will require access to the ECM database. The Utilities page now includes a link for installing the new SSIZIP file viewer. When manually adding a file to a folder with a file of the same name, an error is displayed if the latest revision in ECM has the same checksum and a new file revision is not added. When viewing a large file greater than 500 KB, a prompt is now offered for the user to choose whether or not to perform the file integrity check. Skipping the integrity check shortens the time required to display the file. Version J (August 2002) The following enhancements were made in Version J: Kanji characters are supported. Version History Version 2.1 (July 2002) The following enhancements were made in Version 2.1: The Oracle intermedia search cartridge is now supported to provide sophisticated searching features with performance for the largest enterprises. A file s filtering status is indicated on the file properties. Next and Previous buttons have been added to the file properties key s tab. The display of dates in the local time settings on the client computer has been changed to consider daylight savings time if appropriate for the client s time zone setting. Wildcard characters can now be used in Keyword search. Version (March 2002) Version provided limited functionality and was not released for all customers. The following enhancements were made in Version 2.0.2: File uploads no longer wait for file filtering and are now faster. File filtering is now done after files are uploaded from an application service rather than during the upload process. Separate servers may now be specified for the Web server and for the file transfer server so that the system can be optimized for faster Web page response and file transfers. FTP protocol is now available for file transfers. Files are now uploaded directly to a temporary location on the file transfer server and a background service now transports the files from there to the final storage location. A separate SMTP server may now be specified so that the SMTP server is no longer required on the Web server. A reply address may now be specified so that from ECM will no longer be identified as spam or junk mail by some systems. This also provides notification of undeliverable . A Web page, sysadmin.asp, is now available for monitoring the status of file transport and file filter queues. System administrators may remove or secure this page as there is no logon required for access. ECM Print Services properties are no longer inherited from the specified hardcopy printer but are explicitly specified in a new tab of the ECM Print Services Document Preferences. ECM Print Services no longer allows settings for the hardcopy printer to be specified separately from the default settings. This had been causing the ECM Print Services properties to be too large for some applications. ECM Print Services now uses the default hardcopy printer settings. Archive volumes may now be unmounted from the Archive tab in Administration to reduce server overhead for archive volumes that are no longer used. OpenLAB ECM Release Notes 7

Version History Version (December 2001) The following enhancements were made in Version 2.0.1: In the Keyword search, multiple words separated by a space will be treated as if an AND operator were used between each word. In Keyword or Advanced Search, operators will be evaluated in order of precedence as follows: HAVING (Advanced Search only) has precedence over AND and AND has precedence over OR. As before, parentheses can be used to explicitly set the desired order of evaluation. Deleting a location, cabinet, drawer, or folder is now a separate process on the ECM Web server so that timeout errors will not occur on the client when a large number of files needs to be deleted. The file transfer software will now retry if an upload error occurs so that network aberrations will not affect transfer reliability. Files that are stored using a file uniqueness option can now be rekeyed successfully. ECM now supports 64 bit and 128 bit SSL encryption. The Scheduler page will load more quickly. The Scheduler page will no longer perform an extra prompt to save changes. The Help has been updated. When only the password is changed for the user specified on the Administration Storage tab, this is now propagated to other Web servers when multiple web servers are used. When the computer name for the Web server changes, the DBConfiguration utility will now change name rather than add a new name. When rekeying PDF files, the temporary files on the web server are now deleted. Changes to the settings on the General tab in Administration are now logged in the audit trail with the old value and the new value. Advanced Searches for Sciex Analyst values no longer return an error. On the Show Associations page, the version numbers now start at 1. When using Windows NT domain users, file upload speed has been increased. Script errors related to dtgmtdate will no longer occur with non- English clients. OpenLAB ECM Release Notes 8

Version History Version 2.0 (November 2001) The following enhancements were made in Version 2.0: New copy and paste features for extracting text, table, or graphic information from EMX and PDF documents. The Copy with Traceability option adds data for tracing the pasted information back to the source document. Templates can be applied to EMX or PDF documents to extract metadata to facilitate searching. Electronic signatures may now be applied to EMX files using an electronic signature tool that meets the regulatory requirements for 21 CFR part 11. User-defined keys can prompt for metadata when files are added to ECM. Files may now be listed with metadata such as file size, date, revision number, and many more. Users may now login to ECM using their Windows NT domain logon. The Scheduler program may now be run as a service under Windows NT or The Scheduler program can store files in a protected local folder in case of a network disruption with transfer to ECM as soon as the network connection is restored. Access to the Scheduler program settings is now controlled for each installed agent so users cannot interfere with other scheduled tasks. All administration of the Scheduler program is now done through the Scheduler page in ECM. The Scheduler program now supports Scheduler Agent programs for data systems that have complex file structures. Scheduler Agent programs are now available for Waters Millennium and Waters Micromass MassLynx data. Oracle databases are now connected to the Web server using OLE DB rather than ODBC. Microsoft SQL Server 2000 is now supported. SQL Server 7.0 is no longer supported. ECM now supports load balancing with multiple Web servers so additional servers can be added as the system load increases. We recommend using F5 BIGIP as the load balancer. Added movement of cabinets, drawers, folders, and files. The keyword search at the top of the ECM home page now searches all metadata and full text indexes so you find what you need quickly. Advanced search has been expanded to include more metadata. A new archive agent designed to work with a Storage Array Network (SAN) has been added. Filter packs have been added for HTML, JCAMP IR, JCAMP MS, JCAMP NMR, Sciex Analyst, and Waters Millennium data. OpenLAB ECM Release Notes 9

13 2. Version History Version 1.1 (January 2001) The following enhancements were made in Version 1.1: Added the Filter Pack for Waters Micromass MassLynx. Added the Filter Pack for Varian SaturnMS. The CD/DVD Jukebox Archive is now completely functional. The options for handling failed archive validations are now functioning correctly [incident 7174]. The ODBC driver for Oracle databases has been upgraded to version This corrects a memory leak in the previous 8.05 version as well as allowing the use of Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server on the Web server. 14 3. Product Feature Issues and Resolutions 3. Product Feature Issues and Resolutions This chapter lists the known issues with the OpenLAB ECM system at the time of release. The resolutions are recommended actions to correct or workaround the described issues. All Areas of the ECM System Incident: Machine Naming Incident: The ECM does not support server machine names greater than 15 characters. Some programs exhibit strange behavior when a user other than the original user who installed the software tries to use the program. These scenarios are only possible if the original user who installed the software selected the Only for me option to restrict access of the program to just the installing user on the computer. The following issues occurred when a user other than the installing user tries to use the program installed Only for me : Chrom Data Viewer. Any user can view files in the ECM system by right-clicking a file and selecting Chrom Data Viewer. TNF Data Viewer: When a user tries to view AnIML files in the ECM system by right-clicking an AnIML file and selecting TNF Data Viewer, a message displays stating Application has generated an exception that could not be handled. Process id=0xce0 (3296), Thread id=0x1cc(460). Mass Spec Data Viewer: Any user can start the Mass Spec Data Viewer program, however the contents of files will not display. ECM Print Services: Although you cannot select to install this software Only for me, the ECM Print Service does not work for other users. PDF Template Plug-in for Adobe Acrobat. All users can successfully use the PDF template Plug-in for Adobe Acrobat program. Adobe Acrobat Integration Service: All users can add, open, and save PDF files in the ECM system. esignature Plug-in for Adobe Acrobat: When a user tries to electronically sign a PDF, a message displays stating Unknown Class ID and Cannot establish connection with the server! 15 3. Product Feature Issues and Resolutions Incident: For client computers used by multiple users, instead install the ECM client components using the "For All Users" option. Installation Advisor can't fix one of item on the list, IQ Tool. Workaround: Run the installer from the local machine. This has been caused by running the installation from remote location. The installation should be done from CD or local copy. ECM FT Service Incident: CALYPSO The following information didn t make it in the ECM online Help before release. Set up to log file transfer server messages By default, the file transfer server does not log messages outside the user interface. Use the following procedure to set up the file transfer server to start logging messages to a text file. To set up to log file transfer server messages 1. Using Microsoft Notepad, open the FTService.exe.config file (typically in \Program Files\Agilent Technologies\ECM File Manager). 2. Change the NONE attribute in the <add key="logging" value="none"/> element to FILE 3. Save the file and quit Microsoft Notepad. 4. Restart the file transfer server Reference <!-- Logging information 'NONE', 'FILE', 'DEBUG'--> <add key="logging" value="none"/> -> Specifies the type of logging. <add key="logfilepath" value="$app$\logs"/> -> Sets the path to the log file if FILE logging. <add key="messagelevel" value="4"/> -> Sets the message level. Possible values are: Status = 0, ErrorMessage = 1, Warning = 2, SuccessAudit = 3, DebugMsg = 4, Incident: File Transfer Server (FTS) 1 OpenLAB ECM Release Notes 12

16 3. Product Feature Issues and Resolutions If the File Transfer Server Monitor is left open, it may consume a great deal of memory. Avoid leaving the File Transfer Server Monitory open. Quit the Monitor after using it. Incident: File Transfer Server (FTS) 2 In file transfer server cluster systems, if one file transfer server abnormally stops responding, files may be left in the cache without any database reference. The files left in the cache do not harm the system nor negatively effect system operations. Incident: File Transfer Server (FTS) 3 Message Method ~ of object ~ failed displays in the FTS Error log. The permanent storage location is out of space. Add another storage location and make the current storage location inactive, or empty space on the existing storage location. Incident: File Transfer Server (FTS) 4 The ECM FT Service requires a restart after changing the threshold value for the change to take effect. All changes to the ECM FT Service require a restart of the server for changes to take effect. Incident: File Transfer Server (FTS) 5 System Error log displays ORA-00936: missing expression message for the file transfer server using an Oracle database. Restart the ECM FT Service. Product Feature Issues and Resolutions ECM Server Base Software Incident: Uninstall Incident: , Incident: Removing ECM Server Base software leaves the EC Client Installation.msi and ECM Resources.msi files in C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\ECM\ClientInstall folder. Manually remove the files. Removing ECM Server Base software may leave a registry key at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Scientific Software,Inc. It may also leave two files, sigworker.dll and sessionmonitor.ocx, in \Windows\System32, and the SSIKESInstaller file in C:\Windows\Downloaded programable files. Manually remove the registry key and these files after an uninstall. Installation of ECM Server on any non-default drive requires manual changes to environment variables, and subsequent update of MSADC path. Incident: A service note will be made available with detailed instructions to install the ECM components on a specific drive. The %PROGRAMFILESFOLDER% and %IISROOT% settings need to be updated prior to running the ECM Server installer. After the installer is run, the path to MSADC in ISS needs to be reset to the correct location. If filters for multiple GAML files are configured on a single folder, the GAML metadata Bruker XRPD data files also includes values for a GAML-BomemNIR data file. The XPaths are an input to the GAML filter which tells it where from the GAML XML to extract values. These are the approved and agreed upon XPaths. None. OpenLAB ECM Release Notes 14

18 3. Product Feature Issues and Resolutions Notification Incident: The first failure of an notification is entered twice to the Application Server log. Be aware that the first failure of an notification is entered twice to the log and that the entry actually is not two failures. Enterprise Node Incident: Enterprise Node Setting the Enterprise node URL to a non-functioning or non-existent drive may cause Internet Explorer to stop responding. Set the Enterprise node URL to functioning drive. General Incident: When an SSIZIP file contains a large number of files, the filtering process can take a long time to complete. In some cases, the status of the application service is not being reported correctly. When filtering an SSIZIP, the application service filters each component file individually. Please do not stop or restart the application service during this time. Incident: Using the ECM Client on a Windows 7 platform, an error message will sometimes appear during a login. The error message states "Unable to add module SSIKESDocRetAdmin.Module : Object doesn t support this property or method. Clicking Ok will continue to log the user onto the system. Exit the ECM and log back in until the error does not appear. OpenLAB ECM Release Notes 15
