3 Introduction The 9 th main version of NVGate is available since January This major release of the OROS 3- Series analyzer s software platform supports the latest Teamwork instrument generation and features improvements regarding IP connection, hard drive management, impact test, run up/down waterfall and other ergonomics. The present release note describes the content of V9.00 and the first bundle V9.10, with operating details. Overview NVGate V9.00 is compatible with all OROS OR36/38 V3 Teamwork series analyzers whatever their date of release and version. Depending on the hardware options and version, some instrument features may or may not be available. 4 Connections NVGate V9.00 features a dialog box dedicated to the connection and update of the analyzer(s). This dialog is displayed in place of the choice between connected and office mode. Connection dialog This dialog gathers in a unique list the office mode and the list of visible analyzers for connected mode. It is possible to select one or multiple analyzers 1 or the office mode Model(s) selection List of visible analyzers and office Details and modification of the highlighted analyzer Connection issue notification The dialog contains multiple area and commands. Model list area showss the available analyzer and the office mode. Details area shows the information related to the highlighted analyzer. Analyzer may be highlighted by clicking on the corresponding row out of the selection chek box. Issue notification. This area appears at the bottom of the Model list when an issue block the start of NVGate (Start button is disabled) Refresh button rescans the network and updates model column. Resync button relaunches the clock synchronization between analyzers for cascade purposes. Start button launches NVGate with the selected model; Office, analyzers multiple Teamwork Connected, Multiple 1 Teamwork instruments only 4

5 Visibility of analyzers Visible analyzers are the OROS 3-Series (V1, V2 and now V3 2 ) connected on the same network as the PC. The connection between the PC and the visible analyzer(s) must be on the same logical network (i.e.: A company LAN with network switches or cascade of Teamwork analyzers). Analyzers already running an NVGate session are not visible in this dialog. Analyzers with the same IP address are visible in this dialog. IP must be changed to different ones to allow starting NVGate on multiple analyzers. Name Chain, and Status columns are updated periodically. NB: Internet Routers are supported by Teamwork analyzers (V3) only by specifying the analyzer IP address in the command line of NVGate. Connection to the analyzer To connect to your analyzer, select the corresponding check box in the Model column. To start NVGate with the Office mode (Running on the PC with a dongle or the analyzer as a dongle) select the Office model. Just like previous NVGate versions: The Office model is automatically selected if there is no visible analyzer. In the presence of visible analyzers, NVGate will select the first connected one in the list according to the following priority: 1. Firmware compatibility 2. IP compatibility 3. Discovery date The Start button will remain disabled until the following criteria are fulfilled: At least one model is selected If it is one or plural connected one o The corresponding model firmware are up to date. o The IP address of the selected models are compatible with the PC one NB: it is not possible to mix Office and Connected models Ethernet IP management IP address management has been dramatically improved with NVGate V9.0. This is particularly true by the visibility of all connected analyzers whatever the firmware version, IP addresses compatibility and duplication. Both PC IP@ and highlighted analyzer are visible in the detail area. You can change the analyzer IP settings by clicking on the analyzer IP link. 2 Teamwork (V3 analyzer) are not compatible with Windows XP 5

6 You can update the analyzer IP manually but the most substantial and easy way to solve IP address conflicts is to use the Generate Automatically button. This method will take in account all IP addresses in the logical network to avoid any conflict; even the ones not visible from this dialog. DHCP server from the analyzer This feature allows the analyzer to provide the PC IP address. This is available from V3 Teamwork analyzers only. When a V3 analyzer is set as a DHCP server, it will update your PC IP address when this one is set as Get automatically IP address. This configuration allows immediate connection of PC configured for company network. The DHCP server of the analyzer is Non authoritative, this means that when the analyzer is connected to a local network it will not act when an Authoritative one exists. Firmware update The firmware can be updated on demand. The Connection dialog detects the not-up-to-date firmware. Simply click in the firmware link: Not up-to-date to enter the firmware update process. A monitoring window is opened during the update. At the end if the update is successful, the window background goes to green. In case of unsuccessful, it goes to red. Change analyzer name While using multiple analyzers together, it is useful to set easily the identification of each chassis. Click on the Name Link to update the highlighted analyzer identifiers. Long name is used to identify the system in the software installation and properties dialogs Short name are used in NVGate settings and trace/result management. 6

7 Connect to multiple analyzers at a time (Teamwork only) NVGate V9.00 allows running multiple Teamwork instruments from a unique NVGate instance at a time. This allows cascaded or distributed configuration of OR36/38 V3. The same program (NVGate.exe) and connection dialog is used. After launching NVGate you get the visible analyzer list in the connection dialog. Chain 1 Synch Ethernet switch Chain 2 The Chain column shows the possible analyzers combination. The first digit is for the chain Id. The second one is for the analyzer position in the said chain. A chain is defined by a group of consecutive daisy-chained analyzers with a clock synchronization line in between. A unique analyzer is considered as a chain. The Status column shows the synchronization status. Synchronized means the analyzers sampling clocks are in phase (< 20 khz). It is possible to start NVGate before the synchronization process is finished; NVGate interface will wait for the achievement. Single chain analyzers are automatically synchronized. If the synchronization cannot achieve (ex. cabling change) you can restart the process with the ReSync button 7

8 While launched on multiple Teamwork analyzers, the NVGate interface remains exactly the same as with one analyzer. All input identifiers are enhanced with their hosting systems short name. This is passed on to the results, legends, marker tables, etc.. Plug-ins availability NVGate V9.10 running on multiple analyzers supports the following ASB items: Full front-end: Universal inputs, Ext. Synch, DC, Out, CAN 3, ICP, TEDS Recorder up to 256 channels FFT1 to 4 up to 256 channels per FFT FFTDiag tools Events/Triggers Filters Time windows Next bundles will provide additional plug-in in cascaded modes: Tachometers, Waterfall, 1/Octave, Synchronous order and Time domain analysis. 3 CAN bus is supported on Master analyzer only 8

9 Impact test The impact/bump test operation the following functions: Damping ratio marker continues to be improved with NVGate and 3-Series analyzers with A damping calculation is now available with the peak and max markers. Calculation method The calculation is based on the Half-power-band-width method, where DR is the damping ratio: ω = peak _ ω R = peakfrequency 1 amplitude ) 2 ω DR = 2ω R Operations The calculation of the damping factor is activated through the marker properties or preferences. When it is activated an additional column is added in the corresponding marker table. The marker table can be saved in an MS Office document or simply copied and pasted. Warning, using nonhomogeneous weighting windows (i.e.: equivalent noise bandwidths are not the same) on FRF channels leads to incorrect peak interpolation and damping results. 9

10 Component, Node and Direction on trace labels In order to simplify the trace identifications in applications that manage many measurement points (structural dynamics, Roving impact hammer) the content of the front-end identification settings are inserted in the trace labels. The trace labels display the Component, Node and Direction when the corresponding setting is different from its default value: Component = None Node = 0 Direction = Scalar This applies individually, setting by setting and is independent for each channel. Table format on Excel reports Adding marker or inputs tables in an Excel report is a popular function of the NVGate report mode. It is now possible to define how the NVGate table will be arranged in the Excel sheet. In the following examples we have 3 FRFs (1 hammer, 1 tri-axis accelerometer) per measurement point. We measure the highest peak amplitude, frequency and damping ratio on all FRFs at each measurement point. 10

11 The table format is governed by attributes in the NVGate Tag in the report file. After the drag & drop of the table in the report file, you can insert the following attributes 4 Flattened table The first arrangement allows transposing the table in one unique line. 12 Automatic reports With NVGate V9.00 the automatic report functions are included for free. These reporting modes supplement the Print all windows one. On the left side of the report tab, the automatic report functions are made available in the report tab group has been added: Automatic report. It features 2 additional fully automated report generations and a batch function for multiple measurements reports: The All results (single & compare) as well as the Measurements batch. Print All Results These functions allow printing all channel results in a comprehensive report, without requiring the setup of any template. That generates automatically a report with all the acquired and analyzed data. It is useful for multianalysis and multichannel measurements report. Basically all existing results (computed by NVGate / Analyzer) having the same type as the displayed windows will be printed in this format. The user selects the type of result to be printed by displaying at least one of the results in one layout of the current setup. Print all results (single) The function scans each layout to get the plug-in (FFTx, SOAx, OCT ) and the result type (Spectrum, RMS, trigger block ) of the first trace in each window (referencee trace). Then it plots the same result type for each channel of the corresponding plug-in. As an example working with inputs 1 to 8 connected to FFT and recorder with the following layouts: Layout 1 Window 1: Front-end RMS input 1 to 8 Window 2: Recorded signal input 4 and 8 Layout 2 Window 1: FFT Average spectrum input 1 Window 2: FFT Trigger bloc input 1 The All results automatic report will print the following graphs: Layout 1: Window 1 RMS level: Inputs 1 to 8 (8 plots) Layout 1: Window 2 Recorded signal: inputs 1 to 8 (8 plots) Layout 2: Window 1 FFT avg. spectra: inputs 1 to 8 (8 plots) Layout 2: Window 2 FFT Trigger bloc: inputs 1 to 8 (8 plots) The format of the reference trace is applied to each corresponding plot. In the case of cross function the reference trace will be used as the reference for each result (FRF, Coherence, etc.) Print all results (single) = Note: the report format is the same as the All windows one 12

13 Print all results (compare) The compare version of the print all result function allows comparing every measured result with a reference one. It is useful to check variations along a structure or a shaft for example. In this case the reference trace will remain displayed while the other results are plotted within the same graph. This method scans the result exactly as the single version except it shows 2 traces per graph in the report. Print all results (compare) = Considerations for All windows and All results(x) automatic report The report generation is based on the content of the saved workbook. If your workbook has been changed without saving it (CTRL+D or Save project) the content of the report file will reflect the last saved workbook content. The report is based on predefined templates. You may adapt these templates in order to change contents (ex: your company logo, or add specific setting or marker).the original templates are located in the NVGate installation directory \ Template library. Copy the corresponding folder (All windows or All results) from this directory and past it in the NVGate Data\ template library. The pasted file will be taken in account instead of the original ones. The report generated with these methods may be updated form the NVGate GUI: Open the report file, select it from the report\active file group in NVGate and press Refresh button. Batch measurement This function allows printing all the saved results of a set of similar measurements. It fits ideally the process of measurement campaigns, prototype fine tuning loops, machinery evolution or diagnostics and repairs. The batch measurement report is also used to format a set of measurements with the same presentation layouts. The automatic report generation inputs are: A set of saved measurements A reference layouts A Word /Excel template The first operation consists of setting up one measurement in order to adjust the graphs format. Select one measurement and modify/enrich the layouts: graphs, scales, markers, windows/layout name, comments and properties. Click on Home/Start/Edit measurement button and save the edited measurement. Secondly, create a Word template to fit the edited measurement. See the [Reference manual Vol. 3 Reports, Tools & ribbons] for instructions. Third, select the measurements to be printed. Click on the Report/Automatic reports/measurement batch button. The batch report selection dialog is showed (NB: it may take a few second to display if your project manager contains lot of projects/measurements). 13

14 This Dialog is divided in 3 areas, one for each input parameters and one for the output files 1. The selection of measurements to be printed selection. 2. The format do be applied on the processed measurement data (Layouts of a measurement from the Project manager) 3. The Word templatee to used for each generated report 4. The output options; directory and file name. Last, print the reports. By selecting Save layouts in measurements each processed measurement will be updatedd with the format layouts. When these measurements are edited, the graph presentation is then homogeneous and corresponds to the report contents. By selecting Discard layouts from measurements the measurement layout are not modified. Batch measurement = + Data selection The measurements selection is helped by a search engine which filters the project manager measurements according to their properties. The measurement frame reflects the project manager content. It is possible to expand or collapse the projects. The displayed measurements correspond to the following criteria: One of the active properties matches the search text, The measurement is already selected. 14

15 It is then possible to make mixed selection from various criteria. The properties are activated/deactivated (i.e. included in the search process) by selecting it with the button at the right of the search text. It is also possible to mask/show the properties columns by right clicking on the header. The column order can be changed by drag and dropping one column to its new location. The measurements are sorted by column content (alphanumerical sort) by left clicking on the column header. 15

16 Signals management To accompany the teamwork generation, NVGate signal management has been improved. It is now necessary to provide signal storage devices and used hardware for single and multi-hardware acquisitions. 2 dialog have been changed; the signal properties and the disk manager. Signal properties The properties of recorded signals have been enriched with location and traceability. Analyzer(s) used for record Disk(s) used for record Availability of data for download The analyzer(s) whichh have been used to record the signal are memorized in the column Acquisition Front-end. It is the easy to identify records that may be altered by a faulty input. Same thing regardingg the used (Mobi-) disks. These information are memorized with the measurement itself. They are available even if the analyzer or the disk is not connected. The Signal on disk indicates the presence of record file on the connected disks: Yes/No or a question mark when the disk is not connected. 16

17 Disk manager The disk management has also been adjusted allowing the management of multi-disk measurements. This dialog is accessible through the Home/Disk ribbon group. Both Manage and Download button open it. The dialog shows all records which have at least one file on the active disk(s): On analyzer(s) or on PC USB. The preselection buttons have been synthetized in 3 categories: All / None: for backup or disk cleaning. 17

18 Downloadable: Select records which have corresponding project & measurement in the Project Manager Orphans: Select records which haven t any corresponding project & measurement in the Project Manager NB: Preselection buttons do not select partial records, i.e. one or more disks are not connected. Use manual selection to download an incomplete record. Warning this is a definitive action. It will be impossible to add missing files later. The Target choice allows choosing the download destination: Automatic: add each signal file in the Project/Measurement used for its acquisition. Note that records without Project/Measurement correspondence in the Project manager will be added in the current project. Project: add the signal files in the selected project regardless their original project. 18

19 Run Up/Down Waterfalls The waterfall and profile provide new capabilities that improve readability and accuracy. Tachometer centered on FFT/SOA blocks This allows centering tachometer speed at the center of the FFT/SOA triggerr block(s). It is useful with long trigger blocks (High resolution analyses) to perfectly match the actual data with the order cursor or section. With classical tach: The RPM is collected at the end of the analysis block RPM 3 2 Block 1 Block 2 Block 3 1 Actual order N Cursor at order N This situation leads to an offset in the waterfall calculation of the orders (cursors, sections). For a run up, as the angular speed is over evaluated, the order calculation is lower than the actual ones. With centered tach: The RPM is calculated as the average speed during the block duration to be synchronized with the analyzed data. 20 With the centered tachometer, the orders calculations match more accurately the actual orders in waterfall. The computation of the angular speed takes in account the averaging, triggering and overlap used in the plug-in. The centered speed is calculated as: CT = RPM (End _ of _ analysis ) RPM ( Begin _ of 2 _ analysis ) The RPM centering and averaging is done in the analysis plug-in prior to be connected to the waterfall. To use the centered tach simply add the said tachometer to the corresponding plug-in (FFTn or SOAn). These additional tachometers are available in the waterfall as soon as one of the result of the plug-in is added to the waterfall. 1. Add Tach to the Plug-in, 2. Select the Plug-in Tach, as a tachometer and reference Colored floor in 3D displayss The colored 3D displays use palette that define the color of each level. With NVGate V9.10 the bottom of the Y scale remain colored with the lowest defined level. 20

21 This area remain colored even if the corresponding Oversampled waterfall collections level are above the floor of the 3D display The waterfall collects and synchronizes results generated by various calculations (plug-ins, front end, tachometers, monitor). NVGate V9.10 allows collecting the results at very different rates. This is useful while measuring at different spectral resolutions (which influence the result availability rate) or with more frequent references like tachometers. 22 Miscellaneous This first bundle of the V9.00 release brings various additional evolutions such as: Windows compatibility NVGate V9.xx are compatible with the latest MS Windows versions; Windows 8 and Windows 8.1. Note that from now, on PC which have never installed NVGate, the installation directory is: C:/OROS/Programs/NVGate. It is recommend for existing installation (V8.xx or earlier) to move the software (usually in C:/Program Files/OROS/OR3X) to the new one. The teamwork analyzers (OR36/38 V3) are no more compatible with Windows XP. Spare units and physical quantities NVGate Features 4 Spare units to be used when requested physical quantity does not exist in the software. Actually these spare units are physical quantities. It is possible to rename it with NVGate V9.10. The procedure is as follow: Open the file orosunit.ini from the installation directory In the MAGNITUDE DEFINITION section goes to the Spare ones Set corresponding Ids to 0 Add a line QuantityName = new name Start NVGate and create associated units Example to create Dynamic Stifness magnitude: ; --- User free--- ; [Spare1] Id = 38 Ids = <- Set to 0 QuantityName = Dyn. Stiffness <- Add EqDim = m:0 Number = 1 Unit1 = NoUnits TypeUFF = 0 SettingUnit = 1 For using special characters (ex Asian languages) the orosunit.in file must be encoded as UTF-8. Note that the orosunit.ini file is overwritten at each new install of NVGate. Link all cursors in one click Cursors can be linked one by one to follow the same X-coordinate. It is now possible to link/un link from the cursor contextual menu. This apply to the link ad link by reference and concern all the cursors of the current layout. 22

23 Input Label reduction With the introduction of multi-analyzers operations NVGate uses the input number in the chassis (i.e. Input 12) as an identifier independently from the label itself. As the default value for the label is the same as the input identifiers the system will not display it twice when they are identical. If the lable differ, it is displayed: Input = 4, Label = Input 4 shows Input 4 Input = 4, Label = Acc top shows Input 4: Acc top This applies in the infotrace, windows head and result name.
