3 Dear Tester, thank you for helping us to improve tag2find for you. Currently, tag2find is in a testing stage and we thank you for your help to improve it for you. To send us your feedback and ideas use either the feedback wizard (see page n 20) or simply send us an to contact@tag2find.com tag2find helps you to find everything (documents, movies, images, music, etc.) on your desktop by simply using tags. With tag2find you do not need to have inflexible folder structures anymore: tagging frees your information. tag2find Team 3
4 How to start System Requirements o o o o o Windows XP (Home, Professional) or Vista 32-Bit-Version NET Runtime 2.0 (can be downloaded by installer) NTFS formatted file system Administrative rights for installation 1) Go to tag2find at 2) Enter your as well as your tag2find password to download and install the tool. (if you don t have it go to and register) 3) Integrated tag2find in the taskbar, explorer, IE or even placed as a floating position. Integration & open To integrate tag2find in Windows taskbar: Click right mouse button on taskbar and select Toolbars >> tag2find Toolbar Double-click on icon in notify area opens Floating TagBox Search bottom opens TagBrowser Drag&Drop area Open Menu 4
5 How to start tag2find Menu The following table describes the options in the tag2find Menu. Menu New TagBrowser Floating TagBox New File Monitor Options About Exit Function Opens TagBrowser to manage your tags, get previews and use tagcloud or taglist. A lilttle textbox with all the power of tagging to find your files. With his transparency view, it can be placed everywhere on the desktop. Get automatically informed by tag2find as soon as you create or download new files. Personalize tag2find to suit your needs (with basic and advanced options). Who is behind of tag2find. Close tag2find Note: Make a right click on tag2find icon to see tag2find menu. 5
6 Tag Suggestions (simple version) Using tags is cool, but the hard part is when you have to starting your own tag environment. tag2find will help you by automatically tagging your files for you, to get you started. After installation a wizard will appear which helps you by initialzing your files. You can also do this later by opening the TagBrowser and click on Add Files from directories Step 1: Select your files Step 2: Choose options Step 3: Manage initialzed tags Add files from directories icon 6
7 How to tag A tag is simply a label or keyword that describes your file for making it easer to find. For example, if you have this picture you can tag it with one or more words like: sea vacation sunset beach Individual tags are separated by commas; as an example: o sea, sunset (tag2find will recognize this as 2 tags: sea, sunset) o sea sunset, beach (tag2find will recognize this as 2 tags: sea sunset, beach) o sea sunset (tag2find will recognize this as 1 tag because of the trailing comma) To start to tagging you can choose between three different ways: Using tag2find manually Drag&Drop it to the tag2find icon The file's context menu The Floating TagBox 7
8 Tag New files To tag your files you just need to type in the tags which best describes your file. e.g. vacations, italy, venezia. tag2find s window consists of three parts: 1) Tags: Auto completion of your stored tags. 2) Suggested Tags: Provides you suggestions on how to tag the file ) Your Files: Description of the files which will be tagged. Click on Details to get additional information of your file or a preview of your images, movies, and music. Click on Cancel to quit tagging. Tooltip: To know if your file is already tagged move with mouse over the file to see tags. 3 Note: The differences in the colors of the tags indicate the tags that already in your existing metadata (green) or that they are new tags (red). 8
9 New File Monitor Edit files in TagBrowser Open options menu, fix pop-up or close it. Get automatically informed by a pop-up as soon as you create or download new files and tag them. You can resize the pop-up or position it anywhere on your desktop. tag2find icon informs you about new files. Configure your New File Monitoring in options menu: o set your watched folders o add / delete watched file types. 9
10 Drag&Drop Drag&drop your files around tag2find. Use the powerful feature to move your files, e.g. to your , external applications, Tipp: Drag&Drop moves files within a volume. Using key CTRL will copy them instead. drag&drop: Out of Pop-Up drag&drop: Into and out of TagBrowser drag&drop: to tag icon for tagging drag&drop: into external applications like , media player 10
11 Find your files 1) To find your files start to enter your tag in the TagBox and tag2find starts to search and shows you two parts: All Tags: All your tags from your existing metadata as soon as you are typing in a letter. 1 Result Preview: A preview of your searched files. Double click opens your file, use context menu to see further options or drag&drop your file out of the pop-up. Click on Details to get additional information of your file or a preview of your images, movies, and music. Click on tag to clear it from the list. Click on button to go to your TagBrowser. 2 2) Once you have entered the first tag and add a comma at the end (e.g. vacations, italy) and tag2find will switch from All Tags to Related Tags : With your related tags you never ever get lost in your tagged desktop. Related tags guide you to using your tags consistently while tagging and provide you suggestions on how to get closer to the goal of your research while searching. Graphical bar emphasizes the weight of each tag by symbolizing the amount of usage in relation to the entered tags. Note: Get your related tags after entering a comma in your TagBox. 11
12 TagBrowser Explore your tagged files by browsing, sorting and filtering them. Limit search by files types (e.g. find only movies, images, etc. tagged with a special tag). TagBrowser also offers you powerful features for quickly organizing the tags of large amounts of files. You want change your tagged world? No problem, TagBrowser offers you all the means you need, with previews of files, related tags, fast search and mass tag operations. To open the TagBrowser you can choose between: Right click on tag2find icon to go to the TagBrowser option. Click here to go to TagBrowser option. Pressing enter in you will go too to the TagBrowser option. 12
13 TagBrowser The following table describes the options in the Menu of TagBrowser. Icon Menu Add files from browser and get tag suggestions Add files from New File Monitor (show all new files) Refresh Save your changes from Edit List Save all changes from all Edit Lists Edit list in (New Edit tags) Undo/Redo Open selected file Show selected file in Explorer Remove selected files from list Clear search result 13
14 TagBrowser Type in your tags to find your files. Click here to clear tag and start a new search. With one click get all your different file types. Visualizes your most popular tags (with bigger sizes). Double click on tags to add new tags. Use context menu on file to see further options or open file with double click. Detailed information of file and preview window for playing music and videos. Choose between TagCloud and TagList. TagCloud: Visualizes your most popular tags at one glimpse. Surf your tagged desktop and discover your information by browsing through your own personal TagCloud. TagList: Tags are listed alphabetically. Graphical bar emphasizes the weight of each tag by symbolizing the amount of usage in relation to the entered tags. 14
15 TagBrowser If you have installed Windows Media Player 9+ on your PC play your music or movies before you tag them. Move with mouse over preview window to show menu. Preview Window for Playing music and videos. 15
16 Edit tags You can replace, remove and add new tags of your files just when you need them. To edit your tags you can choose between two different ways: 1) Open TagBrowser and choose Edit > Edit List in. Note: A new tab will be display where you can change your tag world and adapt it to your needs. 2) The file's context menu > Edit tags. Tipp: A simple way to change your tags in TagBrowser: Use context menu and choose Edit tags or double click with your mouse on tags below the file. This opens up a textfield to manage your tags. 16
17 Edit Tags Click here to save the changes on the Edit Tags. tags of selected files. Double click on tags to add, delete or change them. 18 Export / Import Back-Up your tags by using the export wizard open TagBrowser, click on File -> Export Perform the following steps: 1) Save your tagged files 2) Export your tags with the wizard Mind: Any file and tag changes after exporting your tags can lead to lost tags.
