1 This document describes the basic steps to setup your Digital Signage network using BroadSign. Most of these steps only have to be completed one time. Once your network has been setup, it will be very efficient to manage and operate your network. Note: It is strongly recommended to watch the training videos in the BroadSign Clients Portal ( on how to use the software. The following steps are required to setup your network and will be discussed: 1. Player registration (Registrations) 2. Screen Resolution (Display Type) 3. Loop Policy 4. Criteria 5. Display Unit Configuration (Screens/Channels on your network) 6. Content Upload (Ad copies) 7. Schedule content (Campaign Creation) Additional notes and Tips & Tricks have been included at the end! Player Registration If you already have a PC-player for your demonetwork, go to the Registrations tab and right click on the right frame Add new registration. Follow the steps on the screen. Once registered, the new player will appear automatically in the Players tab Every Evaluation Agreement has 3 players for evaluation purposes. Screen Resolution (Display Type) Setup the resolution of the screens you are using (e.g. for landscape screens: 1280x720, 1366x768, 1920x1080). Go to the Display Types tab and right click on the right frame Add new Display Type. Follow the steps on the screen. Setup a display type for every screen resolution you will be using on your network.

2 Loop Policy Having a properly configured loop allows each viewer to see each of your messages (opportunity to see). The loop policy should be based on the average time the viewers spend in front of the screen (dwell time). For example, in a supermarket the loop policy for the check-out area might be 6 minutes with 20 seconds slots, where the loop policy for the shopping isles might be a 2 minutes loop with 10 seconds slots: Shoppers tend to spend more time waiting at the check-out area than passing through the shopping isles. If you are planning on using a multi-frame layout, it is recommended to create a loop policy for every frame. You might want the main frame (e.g. 6 minutes loop with 20 seconds slots) to have a different loop than then the ticker frame (e.g. no time limit). For setting up the Loop Policies, go to the Loop Policies tab and right click on the right frame Add Loop Policy and follow the steps on the screen. If you do not require a time limit, choose the No time limit option. Criteria Criteria are critical to be able to target your screens as efficiently and accurately as possible. Criteria should be based on how you expect to target the screens. E.g. by city, demographics, geographically, screen size, areas within a location (checkout, Isle...), etc. If you are planning to use a multiple frame layout on the screens, also create criteria for each frame. Go to the Criteria tab and right click on the desired frame > Add Criteria Folder or Add Criteria. Display Unit A display unit represents a screen or a content channel on your network. Display units are how your screens/channels are configured in the software. They tie together the display type, loop policy and criteria that have been created so far, allowing them to be targeted when creating campaigns. Go to Display Units tab and right click on the desired frame and select Add new Display Unit. Follow the steps on the screen. Once a Display Unit is created, you can edit specific Display Unit characteristics by double-clicking the newly created Display Unit. (Display Unit continued) General Enter address information, and assign players (hardware) to the Display Unit tabs. Preview Preview scheduled content Settings

3 Day Parts Set the opening hours for each location. For frame layout go to Day Parts > Day Parts tab > edit the 24 /7 day part > Frames tab. Assign criteria to the display unit. Note: The better the screens are profiled, the better they can be targeted by campaigns! Your screen is now setup in the software. Players have been assigned to the display unit. You can duplicating existing display units to make similar screens by using the Clone Display Units function. To do this right click the newly created display unit and select Clone Display Unit. Content Upload (Ad Copies) Ad copies represent content on your BroadSign domain. For content upload, go to the Ad copies tab. Upload content easily by Drag-and-Dropping your content from your PC into this Ad Copies folder (right frame). You can drop complete folders of content or individual files. Schedule Content (Campaign Creation) Now your network has been configured and your content has been uploaded, we can start scheduling content to the screens (Display Units). Go to the Campaigns tab, right-click on the desired frame and select Add Reservation. Follow the steps on the screen, once the campaign wizard is finished the targeted display units (players) will download the content the next time the player polls/connects with the server. The campaign wizard contains various steps depending on the configuration of your domain. You can add or remove steps in the campaign wizard by clicking Edit > Options > Campaigns for adding or removing (un)necessary steps from the campaign wizard. Finished! Your network has been setup, and content is scheduled to your screens. Additional notes and Tips & Tricks Player Application You can start the player by starting the BroadSign Player application on the player. The player application will open full screen immediately. Click ESC to go to window mode. Using Proxy Server For installing a Proxy Server on the player, open the player application > Hit ESC for window Player polling A player polls every 40 minutes by default, which can be changed in BroadSign Administrator. You can enforce a player-poll for testing-purposes by opening the player application Hit ESC for window mode > click Operations > click Push Request Now. Your changes or schedules will be downloaded and started.

4 mode > click Options. Troubleshooting For ensuring the player is able to communicate properly with the server, open the player application Hit ESC for window mode > click Help > click Diagnostic Report. The Diagnostic Report is a useful and efficient tool to quickly assure a player is working properly. Training sessions and support BroadSign schedules bi-weekly training sessions for evaluation customers. Please check into the BroadSign portal for more details. Tips & Tricks Scheduling by Time-range, Full-screen or Frame targeting, Configure loop-segments, etc In order to do more advanced campaigns, you can enable more wizard options by clicking Edit - Options and tab campaigns & Events and review the Wizard Options. The most common options are Category (spacing out competitive content) and Targeting by Display Unit Criteria so would enable these by default. Include filler content to fill-up your loop Scheduling content using campaigns ensures content is guaranteed to play and properly recorded in the proof of play. In order to include inferior content in your loop (like infotainment, splash-image, etc) you can use Filler content. Fillers will be automatically included and removed whenever required. You can include Filler content by going to Loop Policies and edit your active Loop Policy. You will find Fillers under Schedules. The difference between Fillers and Programs is that Filler plays randomly and Programs according to a specific order. In order to use Programs, you will need to include Program Transformation it in the Loop Policy Settings, where you can also configure the rules that affect building the loop. How to see the playlist / loop for a specific Display Unit In order to evaluate if you appropriately scheduled your content you have two options to do this: -Visually: Edit your Display Unit and click Preview in the side bar. Click the specific date/time you wish to see the content loop for.

5 -Playlist/loop: Right click the Display Unit you wish to see the loop for and click Loop Snapshot Report. You can choose 1 or multiple iterations of the loop at a specific time/date. How to divide the screen into frames Frame layouts are defined on Display Unit level, and can be different per day-part (so f.e. have a different frame-layout in the morning than in the afternoon). In order to design a frame-layout, Edit the Display Unit. Click Dayparts and again tab Dayparts. Edit the daypart you wish to change, and find the tab Frames to modify the frame-layout. Each Frame can have its own loop policy (f.e. a Main Frame might have a 5 minute loop, compared to a ticker Frame which might have a 1 hour loop). Make sure you assign frame-criteria (f.e. main ticker left, etc) to each specific frame for targeting. Also make sure you have enabled the Targeting by Frame Criteria in the Campaign Wizard options (see scheduling by Time-range,... above). What Criteria should I use for my network Criteria are critical to be able to target your screens as efficiently and accurately as possible. Criteria should be based on how you expect to target the screens. Even though Criteria are typically very specific to each network and the way media is sold, common criteria include geographically (f.e. city, province, country), aspect-ratio (if you are running 4:3 and 16:9), screen-orientation (if you are running landscape and portrait screens), location-demographics (f.e. Adults, teens, high-income), positioning of the screen (entrance, cash-register, isles,...), name of the network/store, and can be as specific as a number or postal code, if you wish to target your screens that specifically. How to Schedule a single or periodical (day, week, year) Event (f.e. New Years countdown) The EVENTS feature will allow you to interrupt the loop, and display an event at a specific time/date.
