1 Overview and System Requirements for Entry Level Media Manager (ELMM) This section contains: Product Overview 1-1 ELMM Connection Configuration Overview 1-2 System Requirements 1-3 Product Overview Entry Level Media Manager (ELMM) is a product that allows auto cartridge loader (ACL) tape drives to run unattended backups and restores. It allows manual interaction with a GUI interface. It can communicate with HP NonStop NS-series servers and Blade systems via TCP/IP. With ELMM you can schedule backups and tape cartridges can be labeled. Table 1-1 shows the supported auto cartridge loader tape drives. Table 1-1. Supported Auto Cartridge Loader Tape Drives Auto Cartridge Loader Tape Drives M8701A M8702A Note. The M8701A and M8702A auto cartridge loader tape drives support the LTO-5 fibre channel tape drive. The Entry Level Media Manager software requires HP NonStop labeled tape cartridges. In addition to being labeled magnetically, each tape cartridge must have a special external label that displays the volume ID in both a standard OCR format and a bar code. 1-1

Overview and System Requirements for Entry Level Media Manager (ELMM) ELMM Connection Configuration Overview ELMM Connection Configuration Overview In order for the ELMM software to control an ACL, the ACL control path must be configured from a NonStop NS-series or Blade server to the ACL. The server controls the movements of the ACL s robotic cartridge shuttle. The ACL must be configured in random access mode to allow the ELMM software to run. HP NonStop NS-Series Servers The ACL control path can be configured to run on a Fibre Channel ServerNet adapter (FCSA) on a NonStop NS-series server. Example: SCF> ADD SCSI $M8701A, SENDTO STORAGE, PRIMARYLOCATION (110,2,3), PRIMARYSAC 1, PRIMARYPORTNAME E00D00F000, LUN 0 Note. LUN in SCF should be 0 for the ACL that is on Bus 0. Lun in SCF should be 2 for the ACL that is on Bus 1. HP NonStop Blade Systems NonStop Blade systems can connect to the ACL by means of a CLIM (CLuster I/O Module). Each CLIM provides access to the ACL through a Fibre Channel port. For more information on connecting devices to the CLIM, see the NonStop CLuster I/O Module (CLIM) Installation and Configuration Guide. To add the control path to the server configuration database, use the SCF ADD SCSI command. Before issuing this command, check that the device is installed properly. To add the control path: -> SCF -> ADD SCSI $M870xA, SENDTO STORAGE, BACKUPCPU 1, LUN 52, PRIMARYCPU 0, PRIMARYCLIM S > START SCSI $M870xA -> STATUS SCSI $M870xA, DETAIL 1-2

6 Using the ELMM Utility Interface Program (INTFACE) This section covers: Overview 6-1 ELMM Utility Interface Program (INTFACE) 6-1 Overview A NonStop EMS subsystem for such purposes is provided. In this regard, a subsystem process name has been assigned to licensed users and will in turn filter (EMS filter) for messages from that subsystem. Unrecognized subsystems will have their messages rejected. A given third party will structure interprocess messages to this subsystem as described below. ELMM Utility Interface Program (INTFACE) This utility program enables batch jobs to export tape cartridges and allows scratching of tape cartridges in DSM/TC. The program, by default, will be shipped with the name INTFACE. It will run the same way and the syntax will be the same on both a server system and a client system. It must be run as a named process. If you prefer, you can move the utility program to $SYSTEM.SYSTEM. The syntax will not change with regard to the parameters. You might find it easier to just keep the program in the ELMM ISV location called INTFACE when you call in for support. 6-1

Using the ELMM Utility Interface Program (INTFACE) IMPORT Function IMPORT Function The IMPORT function of the utility program will allow the importing of all tape cartridges in the CAP of the ACL connected to the NonStop system. It reports an error if the import does not occur. Syntax: Run <ELMM ISV>.INTFACE/NAME/ IMPORT <tape number or ALL> <ELMM ISV location> Examples: Run $SYSTEM.ELMM.INTFACE/NAME/ IMPORT $SYSTEM.ELMM IMPORT is the function is the tape number. $SYSTEM.ELMM is the NonStop server location of the ELMM software. It can be any valid $volume.subvolume. Run $SYSTEM.ELMM.INTFACE/NAME/ IMPORT ALL IMPORT ALL is the function. (ELMM ISV location was not specified as an argument, therefore it will use default location. Default location must be the location of the ELMM server files. This rule is for all commands). EXPORT Function The EXPORT function of the utility program allows the export of one tape cartridge to the CAP of the ACL connected to the NonStop system. It reports an error if the export does not occur. Syntax: Run <ELMM ISV>.INTFACE/NAME/ EXPORT <tape number> <ELMM ISV location> Example: Run $SYSTEM.ELMM.INTFACE/NAME/ EXPORT $SYSTEM.ELMM EXPORT is the function is the tape number. $SYSTEM.ELMM is on the NonStop server location of the ELMM software. It can be any valid $volume.subvolume. This function can be embedded in a TACL routine. The routine could pull tape numbers from a spooler report or the DSM/TC database and then loop through executing the utility function for every tape cartridge. This would fully automate your backups. When the backup was complete, the remainder of the backup TACL routine could then export the tape cartridges used to the ACL. 6-2

Using the ELMM Utility Interface Program (INTFACE) EXPORT Function You can use this TACL routine.?tacl routine == == This TACL routine is an example that can be used to EXPORT tapes from a tape == library to the CAP using the ELMM UTILITY with the EXPORT function. Variables in == BOLD have to be changed for your environment. == == Usage for the ELMM UTILITY EXPORT function: == The given parameters are needed. == Run <ELMM ISV>.INTFACE EXPORT <tape number> <ELMM ISV location> == =============================================================== #frame == == Create the variables #push tape^number == variable contains a tape number #push ^status == variable for checking status of EXPORT #push elmm^loc == ELMM location $vol.subvol on NonStop == == Set the location of the ELMM ISV #set elmm^loc $<vol>.<subvolume> == == You can put this part in a loop and then loop through using different == tape numbers and inserting a new tape number in the command == each time it runs == Run [elmm^loc].intface/outv ^status/ EXPORT [tape^number] [elmm^loc] == == Checks status of EXPORT command [#if [#charfind ^status 1 Error] then 6-3

Using the ELMM Utility Interface Program (INTFACE) REPORT Function #output Bad Status - [^status] ] == endif #set ^status #unframe REPORT Function The REPORT function of the utility program allows you to create a report on disk of the ACL contents. It reports only tape cartridges in valid slots, not in the CAP or in a tape drive. Syntax: Run <ELMM ISV>.INTFACE/NAME/ REPORT <qualified output file or SCREEN> <ELMM ISV location> Examples: Run $SYSTEM.ELMM.INTFACE /NAME/ REPORT $SYSTEM.OUTPUT.TAPELIST $SYSTEM.ELMM Run $SYSTEM.ELMM.INTFACE /NAME/ REPORT SCREEN $SYSTEM.ELMM REPORT is the function $SYSTEM.OUTPUT.TAPELIST is the output file. This can be any valid fully qualified filename. SCREEN is the output location. Will display data to screen. $SYSTEM.ELMM is the NonStop System location of the ELMM software. This can be any valid NonStop System $volume.subvolume. This function could be embedded in a TACL routine to set tape status in DSM/TC to scratch. The problem: DSM/TC does not understand tape libraries. It assumes any tape cartridge with a status of SCRATCH is a valid tape cartridge to be called up on a tape drive. If that tape cartridge is not in the ACL, there will be a problem with that tapemount. The Solution: DSM/TC does allow for an intermediate state called RELEASED. What this will allow is for tape cartridges, once expired, to not go directly to SCRATCH. They go into this intermediate state. DSM/TC will NOT call these up for use until they are in scratch status. Keep only the SCRATCH tape cartridges in the ACL and other tape cartridges in RELEASED state in outside tape racks. Enter RELEASED tape cartridges into the ACL and then set them to scratch. Use the ELMM utility program. 1. Create a list of tape cartridges to enter, based on your company's requirements. 2. The operator pulls the tape cartridges. 6-4

Using the ELMM Utility Interface Program (INTFACE) REPORT Function 3. The operator imports them into the ACL with the GUI. 4. Now the ELMM utility REPORT function can be invoked in a TACL routine to create an ACL inventory file on disk. This can be done immediately or scheduled for a certain time of day using a batch scheduler such as Netbatch. 5. The TACL routine uses the inventory output file to check each tape cartridge against the DSM/TC database. If the status of the tape cartridge is RELEASED, the routine sets the status to SCRATCH in the DSM/TC database. This is a sample TACL routine to perform the task of scratching tape cartridges:?tacl routine == == This TACL routine will be used to set tape volumes in MEDIACOM from a == RELEASED state to a SCRATCH state if they are filed in an ACL. It == does nothing to a tape status that is not RELEASED state or not in catalog. Variables == in BOLD have to be changed for your environment. == == Usage: Create a list of RELEASED tape cartridges, have your operator enter (IMPORT) == as many RELEASED tape cartridges into the ACL as needed, once all the tape cartridges that == are to be entered have been filed into the slots by the robot, run this TACL == routine. == == RUN <$vol.svol>.scratch == == It uses the ELMM utility to report on tape cartridges filed in the ACL slots == Parameters shown are needed. == Run <ELMM ISV location>.intface REPORT <filename> <ELMM ISV location> == =============================================================== #frame == == Create the variables needed by the routine 6-5

Using the ELMM Utility Interface Program (INTFACE) REPORT Function #push library^out == variable for naming REPORT output diskfile #push media_status == output variable for mediacom #push media_in == input variable to mediacom #push tape_list == variable to contain REPORT diskfile used in FILETOVAR #push tapevol == tape cartridge number extracted from tape_list variable in loop #push line == output variable from VFIND to find tape cartridge in DSM/TC #push elmm^loc == NonStop server location of ELMM ISV $<vol>.<subvol> #push ^status == variable to check status of report function #push ^pool == DSM/TC pool name. Can be a '*' if you want all pools == == Set the ELMM $vol.svol #set elmm^loc <$vol>.<subvol> == == Name of the inventory outfile. It will be re-created every time #set library^out <$vol>.<subvol>.<filename> == == Set the POOL for use in MEDIACOM == In this usage, ALL POOLS will be looked at #set ^pool * == == Utility accepts three parameters (REPORT, LOCATION OF OUTPUT FILE, ELMM ISV) == Run [elmm^loc].intface/outv ^status/ REPORT [library^out] [elmm^loc] [#if [#charfind ^status 1 Error] then #output Bad REPORT Status - [^status] ] == endif mediacom/nowait, outv media_status, inv media_in dynamic/ == Put the inventory file to a variable filetovar [library^out] tape_list == 6-6

Using the ELMM Utility Interface Program (INTFACE) REPORT Function == Loop through the ACL Inventory, comparing VOLSER to MEDIACOM info and set == tapevolume to SCRATCH if in RELEASED state [#loop while not [#emptyv/blank/ tape_list] do #extractv tape_list tapevol #set media_in INFO TAPEVOLUME [tapevol],pool [^pool] sink [#wait media_in] == == Finding the status of the tape cartridge in mediacom from the mediacom output vfind /quiet, to line/ media_status "[tapevol]" == == If LINE variable is not empty, then a tapevolume was found in mediacom [#if not [#emptyv/blank/ line] then == Doing the real work if tape cartridge is in RELEASED state [#if [#match [#charget line 39 to 46] RELEASED] then == #output Setting [tapevol] to status of SCRATCH #set media_in ALTER TAPEVOLUME [tapevol],status SCRATCH,POOL [^pool] sink [#wait media_in] ] == endif ] == endif #set media_status #set line ] == endloop == == Exit the dynamic mediacom started at the top #set media_in exit sink [#wait media_in] #unframe 6-7

Using the ELMM Utility Interface Program (INTFACE) MOUNT Function MOUNT Function The MOUNT function of the utility program allows the mounting of one tape cartridge to a tape drive in an ACL connected to the NonStop server. It reports an error if the mount did not occur. Syntax: Run <ELMM ISV>.INTFACE/NAME/ MOUNT <tape number> <tapedrive or NONE> <ELMM ISV location> Example: Run $SYSTEM.ELMM.INTFACE/NAME/ MOUNT $TAPE1 $SYSTEM.ELMM Run $SYSTEM.ELMM.INTFACE/NAME/ MOUNT NONE $SYSTEM.ELMM MOUNT is the function is the tape cartridge number. $TAPE1 is the tapedrive name or NONE if you want to use the first available tapedrive. If you wish to mount the tape cartridge to a drive connected via expand on another system, you must supply the \<nodename>.<tapedrive>. $SYSTEM.ELMM is the NonStop server location of the ELMM software. It can be any valid $volume.subvolume. This function could be embedded in a TACL routine, in which it would mount the next tape cartridge generated then loop through executing the utility function for every tape cartridge. This would fully automate the labeling process. When the labeling is complete, the remainder of the backup TACL routine could then export the tape cartridges used to the ACL. 6-8

Using the ELMM Utility Interface Program (INTFACE) DISMOUNT Function DISMOUNT Function The DISMOUNT function of the utility program allows the dismounting of one tape cartridge from a tape drive in an ACL connected to the NonStop server. It reports an error if the dismount does not occur. Syntax: Run <ELMM ISV>.INTFACE/NAME/ DISMOUNT <tape number> <ELMM ISV location> Example: Run $SYSTEM.ELMM.INTFACE/NAME/ DISMOUNT $SYSTEM.ELMM DISMOUNT is the function is the tape cartridge number. $SYSTEM.ELMM is the location of the ELMM software on the NonStop server. It can be any valid $volume.subvolume. This function could be embedded in a TACL routine, in which it would mount the next tape cartridge generated, then loop through executing the utility function for every tape cartridge. This would fully automate the labeling process. When the labeling is complete, the remainder of the backup TACL routine could then export the tape cartridges used to the ACL. CAPREPORT Function The CAPREPORT function of the utility program allows the reporting of tapes in the CAP. Syntax: Run <ELMM ISV>.INTFACE/NAME/ CAPREPORT <qualified output file> <ELMM ISV location> Example: Run $SYSTEM.ELMM.INTFACE/NAME/ CAPREPORT $SYSTEM.OUTPUT.CAPLIST $SYSTEM.ELMM CAPREPORT is the function. $SYSTEM.OUTPUT.CAPLIST is the output file for the listing. $SYSTEM.ELMM is the location of the ELMM software on the NonStop server. It can be any valid $volume.subvolume. 6-9

Using the ELMM Utility Interface Program (INTFACE) DRIVEREPORT Function DRIVEREPORT Function The DRIVEREPORT function of the utility program allows the reporting of tapes in the tape drives. Syntax: Run <ELMM ISV>.INTFACE/NAME/ DRIVEREPORT <qualified output file> <ELMM ISV location> Example: Run $SYSTEM.ELMM.INTFACE/NAME/ DRIVEREPORT $SYSTEM.OUTPUT.DRVLIST $SYSTEM.ELMM DRIVEREPORT is the function. $SYSTEM.OUTPUT.DRVLIST is the output file for the listing. $SYSTEM.ELMM is the location of the ELMM software on the NonStop server. It can be any valid $volume.subvolume. QUEUEREPORT Function The QUEUEREPORT function of the utility program allows the reporting of queued tapes as shown in the Queue Manager tab of the GUI. Syntax: Run <ELMM ISV>.INTFACE/NAME/ QUEUEREPORT <qualified output file> <ELMM ISV location> Example: Run $SYSTEM.ELMM.INTFACE/NAME/ QUEUEREPORT $SYSTEM.OUTPUT.QUELIST $SYSTEM.ELMM QUEUEREPORT is the function. $SYSTEM.OUTPUT.QUELIST is the output file for the listing. $SYSTEM.ELMM is the location of the ELMM software on the NonStop server. It can be any valid $volume.subvolume. 6-10

Using the ELMM Utility Interface Program (INTFACE) DRIVESTATUS Function DRIVESTATUS Function The DRIVESTATUS function of the utility program allows the reporting of the status of each drive. The function returns what state each drive is in as displayed in the configuration, up or down. Syntax: Run <ELMM ISV>.INTFACE/NAME/ DRIVESTATUS <qualified output file> <ELMM ISV location> Example: Run $SYSTEM.ELMM.INTFACE/NAME/ DRIVESTATUS $SYSTEM.OUTPUT.STATUS $SYSTEM.ELMM DRIVESTATUS is the function. $SYSTEM.OUTPUT.STATUS is the output file for the listing. $SYSTEM.ELMM is the location of the ELMM software on the NonStop server. It can be any valid $volume.subvolume. REFRESH Function The REFRESH function allows a refresh of the library once the labels have been identified as tapes. Without this command ELMM would have to be recycled. Syntax: Run <ELMM ISV>.INTFACE/NAME/REFRESH> Example: Run $SYSTEM.ELMM.INTFACE/NAME/REFRESH 6-11

Using the ELMM Utility Interface Program (INTFACE) REFRESH Function 6-12

A Server ELMM Process Functions SERVER TSIMMS0: This process is the initiator. It starts all other processes, socket connections for all client and GUI connections. All messages from the client process and GUI are sent here and then sent along to TSIMMS5. TSIMMS1: This process handles all control path (mount, dismount, import and exports). TSIMMS2: This process sends messages to TSIMMS2 from TSIMMS0. It acts as a buffer. If a message was not received from TSIMMS2, it will queue and resend it later. TSIMMS3: This process filters the $0 collector for any $ZSVR for mount, dismount, reject or canceled messages. TSIMMS4: This process sends all messaging to the $0 collector (TSICO) from TSIMMS1. TSIMMS5: This process receives all backup requests from the GUI through TSIMMS0. Will save all backup requests that have been scheduled. TSIMMS6: This process executes the backup requests received from TSIMMS5. TSIMMSL: This process does all tape labeling and is sent the request from TSIMMS1 after tape has been mounted. TSIMMSE: This receives messages from TSIMMS1 and TSIMMS3 that are sent to the GUI for display. A-1
