1 Release and Installation Notes BemTrain Version Release Detail. BemTrain version is a feature release adding two significant updates. 1. A Transponder Registration report is added to the Track Monitor App to make it easy for operators to check during practice that all riders entered for an event have generated a transponder passing. 2. A Pursuit Analysis report is added to the Training App for circuit / velodrome configuration to track an individual or team pursuit run. The report give sector and elapsed times for the leading rider and gaps at each sector between the leader and each of the team members. See the changes list below for full details of this release. Lyndon.Downing@bigpond.com Changes from to Features Update of the Track Monitor App to include a summary report showing transponders detected on the track that are not in the BEM Event and a list of riders in an associated BEM Event with no detected transponder passings. The feature is designed to be used where Track Monitor is run during practice to identify riders who are either not at the event, have not attached their transponder to the bike or the transponder subscription is expired or not activated or there is a different transponder on the bike to that in the entry. Associated is the ability to create a Transponder Registration BEM Event file for use with the BEM Scoring program to update the registration status for riders who have a transponder passing. 1

2 Update of the Training App for velodrome individual or team pursuit training to provide a Pursuit Analysis report. The user can specific the training run parameters such as number in the team, number of laps, maximum gap from the team leader to when riders are dropped. Details in the report include the leader to leader times for each sector, cumulative time, gaps at each timeline between the leader and individual team members. Note that the BemTrain session file must be created with BemTrain version or later for the pursuit report feature to be available. Training split time records now include a counter for the number of completed runs. For the scenario where in Training Reports, the name source is selected to be the passing record and there is no name data included, BemTrain will now show the transponder number delimited with question marks. E.g. TP-12345? Session file name and path is now displayed in the Setup form. Maintenance Updates Correction to the Staging Check scoreboard mode where a debug error is given for some configurations. Correction for a fault that in the Training Run Form, the display of the number of records stored may not be accurate. Correction to the fault where there are blank name fields in training records, Excel and HTML reports may not include all records of all runs. Correction for a fault that when installing BemTrain on a new PC, none of the valid language options is selected. Changes from to (for anyone still running 2.2.4) Add new scoreboard format and provide optional operator selection to include State or Country code for Time Trial, Race Progress, Race Lap Time and single timeline gap time scoreboards. Add new passing file format import from Timing and Scoring as an extension to the existing BEM DataCollector format to include Athlete State and Country codes. 2

Change multi-language data from a separate file to be integrated with the main program file as the first step (of many still to come) to adapt the program to Office 2013 & 2016 environments. Addition of German language selection in addition to English and Spanish. Additional error trapping added for passing files with an invalid format that would previously cause a run time error. Prerequisites Please check that your PC meets the requirements listed in the Operating System and Microsoft Office sections before installing BemTrain and that you have an Upgrade Code for this version. Note that BemTrain version 3.0.x and later will not run Session files created with versions 2.2.x. and earlier. If you require access to training data from an earlier Session file after installing the later BemTrain, please the session file(s) to lyndon.downing@bigpond.com for conversion to the later format. 3

4 Installing BemTrain For updates and new installations, an upgraded code is required to complete the installation. For first time installations, a User Code is required in addition to the upgrade code. If you do not have you User Code or Upgrade Code, please contact lyndon.downing@bigpond.com Removal of Earlier Version(s) All previous versions of BemTrain MUST be removed to allow for a successful installation of this update. This includes the free Fitting Station versions and Test Versions x and Note that screen shots are taken from Windows 7 Pro and may vary depending on the version of windows installed. Click Start, Control Panel, Programs and Features (Add and Remove Programs in Windows XP) In the Programs and Features window, Right click on BemTrain then Left click on Uninstall. Answer Yes to any prompt required to complete the removal of the earlier version. 4

5 Install BemTrain From the site, download the files: BemTrain Production (zip file) BemTrain Release and Installation Notes Version (pdf file) Unzip and save the BemTrain Production msi file contained in the BemTrain Production zip file. Double click on the BemTrain Production msi file to start the installer. The following screen is displayed. 5

6 Click Next to proceed and the following screen is shown Click Next to start the installation and wait for the Installation Complete Message (below) 6

7 Note that the installation is hardcoded into the folder: C:\BEM\Programs\BemTrain If not done previously as per step 2 on page 8 of this document, Office 2007 and Office 2010 users should include the path C:\BEM\Programs in the Excel list of trusted locations. The installation procedure installs the BemTrain program, adds BemTrain in the Bmx Event Manager group in the Programs menu and provides a shortcut on the Desktop. If you are installing BemTrain for the first time, please refer to the instructions in the distribution to install the configuration file. First Run Setup Double click on the BemTrain icon to start the program. First time installation users will receive the following prompt to enter the Registration Name received with your order confirmation. If you don t have this information, please contact Lyndon.Downing@bigpond.com All users will receive the following prompt to enter the upgrade code the first time the upgrade is run: Enter the code from your release and click OK to activate the update. 8 Operating System Windows XP, Vista (OK but best avoided if possible), Windows7 and for Windows 8, 8.1 and Windows 10, full versions, not the RT tablet versions. 32 or 64 bit installations are OK. Use of the Professional rather than the Home versions of Windows are strongly recommended for the superior networking capability. Microsoft Office Office 2003, Office 2007 or Office 2010 (32 bit). BemTrain does not run on Office 2013 or later, or the 64 bit version of Office 2010 as Microsoft have not maintained full backwards compatibility with Office 2010 (32bit install), 2007 and 2003 versions. Note that Office 2010 can be installed as a 32 bit application on 64 bit versions of Windows. Microsoft Updates The following preparatory actions if not already implemented on your PC will avoid compatibility problems. 1. If you do not have Windows Update enabled for Auto Update of Windows and other products from Microsoft Update, download and install the latest applicable Office 2003 / 2007 / 2010 service packs and updates. This is very important as there is a history of unpredictable operation should the latest Microsoft updates not be installed. 2. For users running Office 2007 and 2010, include the C:\BEM path and any other locations where you save BEM or BemTrain files in the list of Excel Trusted Locations. Method: 2.1. Open Excel Select File then Options Select Trust Center Click on Trust Center Settings button Click on Add new location button and add any required paths and select the Subfolders of this location are also trusted if appropriate and then click on OK to accept and close the dialog Click on OK to close each of the dialogs until back in Excel which now can be closed. === End of Document === 8
