2 PDS128 & PDS228 Initial Set-Up Your PianoDisc control box requires a one time set-up to enable it to communicate with the imid controller. These instructions apply to both the PDS128 & PDS228 control box. [IMPORTANT NOTE: By following the instructions below you will be entering the Service Mode of your control box. The Service Mode contains all of the calibration and setup information applied by the piano technician when your player system was installed. While in the Service Mode do not change any value other than the one described below. If at any time while you are following the instructions below and somehow navigate to a different screen than that described, immediately exit the Service Mode by pressing the power button to turn off your control box. [Simply press the power button again to start over.] 1. Press the power button to turn your control box on and wait for it to display a music title. 2. Locate the number 1 button and the number 4 button on the front of your control box. The green arrows above point to these buttons. 3. Press these two buttons at the same time.

3 4. The display will now show Service Mode. 5. Press the number 1 button once. 6. Press the pages button (center button) twice until Pg 3 is displayed at the upper right corner of the display. The green arrow below points to the pages button. 7. RS232 should be displayed at the bottom right corner of the display. 8. Press the number 4 button once. 9. RS-232: ProControl should now be displayed on the top line of the display. 10. Press the number 2 button once. 11. RS-232: Computer should now be displayed on the top line of the display. 12. Press the number 4 button once. 13. Press the Stop button twice to exit the Service Mode The green arrow below points to the Stop button. Alternatively, pressing the power button to turn the control box off will also exit the Service Mode. This completes the one time setup of your control box.

4 Installation of the imid MIDI Controller and WIFI Bridge 1. Find a suitable location under your piano to mount the imid MIDI Controller. The imid MIDI controller can be mounted in any position (inverted, upright or vertically) by using its mounting tabs to secure it in place. 2. Extend the WIFI antenna. Plug one end of the supplied MIDI cable into the MIDI IN connector located on the back of your control box. The green arrow above points to the MIDI IN connector Plug the other end of the MIDI cable into the MIDI OUT connector located on the imid MIDI Controller. The green arrow below points to the MIDI OUT connector.

5 5. Plug the round end of the supplied serial cable into the RS232 connector located on the back of your control box. The green arrow below points to the RS232 connector. 6. Plug the rectangular end of the serial cable into the RS232 connector located on the imid MIDI controller. The green arrow below points to the RS232 connector. 7. Plug the supplied power supply into a wall outlet

6 8. Plug the barrel connector of the power supply into the Power In connector of the imid MIDI Controller. The green arrow below points to the Power In connector. This completes installation of the imid MIDI controller.

8 Connecting to Your Piano 1. Manually turn on your PianoDisc control box. Note: You must manually turn on and manually turn off the control box as it does not have the capability to do this remotely. 2. Launch the PianoMID application on your computer. 3. Connect your computer to the imid wireless MIDI controller. (Macintosh is shown, PC is similar.) Note: If you are using your home wireless router and have re-configured your imid using the instructions in the Advanced Programming section of this manual, you would select the SSID of your home wireless router. 4. Click the piano connect button.

9 5. The following window appears when your computer successfully connects with the imid controller at your piano. Note: As you wait you will see the PianoMID user interface update to reflect the current status of your control box. 6. If for some reason the PianoMID user interface failed to connect to your piano the following window appears. Note: The most likely cause for this message is that either your control box is not turned on, your imid controller is not connected to its power source, or cables are not installed correctly. 7. When your PianoDisc control box has completed synchronizing with the PianoMID user interface all of the controls will display their current status.

11 Operation 1. You may change the settings of your PianoDisc control box at any time through the PianoMID user interface. 2. For instance to change the volume simply click and hold the slider control and drag the slider to a new value. Or you may simply click on and highlight the slider control and use the scroll button on your mouse to change its value. 3. To play a selection that is stored on your PianoDisc controller, first select the source where it is located. For instance, if you want to play music from a floppy disc that is inserted in your PianoDisc controller, click on fd under the source menu. Then click on play under the player control menu.

13 imid Operation 1. The PianoDisc control box will only play Type 0 player piano digital MIDI files. The imid controller will ignore any other type of digital MIDI file. 2. First create and name a file folder on your computer. Then place as many player piano Type 0 digital MIDI files as you like into this folder. Note: All of the digital MIDI files that came with your imid controller are ready to play on your player piano. 3. Now select imid under the source menu. 4. Your computer will then prompt you to select a folder that contains the digital MIDI files that you want to play.

14 5. When you have highlighted the desired folder click on the choose button. 6. Your piano will then play every digital Type 0 MIDI file that you placed in that folder. Note: If your piano does not start playing please be sure that the passthrough button under MIDI ports displays passthrough on. If it does not, then simply click the passthrough button once until it displays passthrough on. There may be a one or two second delay before passthrough on is displayed. 7. While your music is playing, you may adjust volume, tempo or transpose, or you may pause then resume playing at any time.

16 Advanced Programming This section describes the procedure to connect your imid MIDI controller to your existing home WIFI network. The benefit of having the imid MIDI controller as part of your existing home WIFI network is that any PC or MAC computer on your network can be simultaneously connected to the internet and to your piano. You will need to have two items of information ready before you begin: 1. The SSID of your existing home WIFI network. The SSID is the name you assigned to your home WIFI network. It is also the name displayed in the list of available WIFI networks on your computer. 2. If you have secured your home WIFI network, you must copy the passphrase (password). Connect your computer to the imid wireless controller as described in step 3 above in the section entitled Connecting to Your Piano. Now open an internet browser (Safari, Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, etc.) Type in the address bar and then press enter (or return).

17 In the next screen, enter admin in the Name field and PASSWORD (all capital letters) in the Password field. In the next screen, upon clicking QuickConnect a list of available WIFI networks in range of your piano will be displayed.

18 Under Network Name click on the name of your home WIFI network. You will be prompted to enter a password or passphrase if your home network is secured. Once you have successfully connected to your home network, upon clicking on Status the following screen will appear. Under the Interface wlan0 heading write down the IP Address ignoring the / symbol and any number after. In the example shown above you would write down

19 1. Close your browser and reconnect to your piano by selecting your home WIFI network on your computer. 2. Open the PianoMID application on your computer. 3. Select Edit from the pull-down menu at the top of the screen. 4. Select imid Address. 5. Enter the IP Address that you wrote down. Then click Save. 6. Now click piano connect.
