3 Installing SQL Server 2012 Express This topic provides a step-by-step procedure for installing a new instance of SQL Server 2012 Express using the SQL Server setup installation wizard. 1. To download SQL Server 2012 Express, go to and click the Download button. 2. On the Choose the download you want window, do one the following Click ENU\x86\SQLEXPR_x86_ENU.exe if your computer is running a 32-bit version of Windows, and then click Next. OR Click ENU\x64\SQLEXPR_x64_ENU.exe if your computer is running a 64-bit version of Windows, and then click Next. 2

4 Note: To determine whether your computer is running a 32-bit version or 64-bit version of the Windows operating system, click here: 3. On the file download message, click Run. 4. Wait for the files to extract. 3

5 5. On the SQL Server Installation Center window, select New SQL Server stand-alone installation or add features to an existing installation. The Wizard starts the installation process. 4

6 The Installation Wizard checks support files. 6. On the License Terms window, review the license agreement and, if you agree, select the I accept the license terms check box, and then click Next. 5

7 7. On the Product Updates window, click Next. 8. Click Install on the Install Setup Files window and allow the installation process to finish loading files. 6

8 9. On the Feature Selection window, accept the default components displayed below and click Next. 10. On the Instance Configuration window, verify that the Named instance is correct, and then click Next. 7

9 11. The Server Configuration window displays the features that you selected to install. Click Next to continue. 12. On the Database Engine Configuration window, select Windows authentication mode and click Next. 8

10 13. The Reporting Services Configuration window is displayed. Click Next to continue. 14. Click Next on the Error Reporting window. 9

11 The System Configuration Checker will run one more set of rules to validate your computer configuration with the SQL Server features that you have specified. 15. During installation, the Installation Progress window provides the status so that you can monitor the installation progress as Setup continues. 16. To complete the installation of SQL Server 2012 Express, click Close. 10
