3 1 Introduction 1.1 General The MCLAN is a program which can communicate with the Conair equipment for data logging, quality control, tracing errors and process control. The program can be used for all Conair dosing and metering devices which can be configured at the Conair Touchscreen Controller: MCBalance MCWeight MCHigh Output MCLiquid 1.2 System Requirements Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 8. Intel Pentium processor or compatible 10/100mbps compatible network connection (RJ45) MCTC with software version 1.14 or higher 1.3 Licence The MCLAN program can be used full functioning for 42 days. After this trial period the program cannot be started anymore and you need to purchase a licence code. Please request your Conair representative for details. The MCLAN licence can be installed to one computer only. 4 2 System setup 2.1 Connecting There are 2 ways to connect the MCTC to your desktop computer or notebook. 1. Direct connection 2. Multiple MCTC s connected through a (corporate) network Using the direct connection, you connect the MCTC with a network cable directly to the computer, without interaction of a network switch or other equipment. Straight network cable can be used, cross cable is not required When connected to a (corporate) network, the MCTC is connected to the computer with interaction of a network switch. With the MCLAN software you are able to monitor multiple MCTC s simultaneously. 2.2 Installing the application Execute the Setup.exe program you have downloaded/received. Follow the installation wizard. 4 MCLAN2 Manual
5 2.3 Determine computer network configuration Be sure the network cable is plugged in. When using a notebook, recommended to turn off the wireless connection Determine the network configuration of your computer: Windows XP Click start and click run Type cmd and hit enter, a black window appears. Type ipconfig and hit enter Windows 7 Click start Type cmd in the search field and hit enter, a black window appears. Type ipconfig and hit enter A list of network adapters appears. Read the IP address and gateway of the used network adapter. Remember the IP(v4)-address, the Subnetmask and if shown the gateway displayed with the ipconfig command. 2.4 MCTC configuration To configure the connection to the MCTC you need to know the network configuration of the computer running MCLAN2, see previous paragraph. 6 On the MCTC, login with supervisor level (See MCTC manual) Go to the system configuration menu: Enter the IP address + 1 in the IP address field (IP address must be in the same range) o Example: Computer IP address is , MCTC IP address can be Enter subnetmask: Enter gateway: if not known, leave it to o Example IP ADDRESS: SUBNETMASK: GATEWAY: When MCTC is connected to a (corporate) network, ask your network administrator for the right network address settings to be entered in the MCTC. 6 MCLAN2 Manual
7 2.5 Configuring the application You can start the program by clicking the icon on your desktop: The machine overview screen will be shown. By clicking the button the Add machines dialog is shown. The MCLAN program scans and displays all available MCTC s in the network. Select the MCTC s you want to monitor and click the add button: It is also possible to add all listed MCTC s in one time to your configuration by using the Add all button. The configuration of the MCTC is copied to the MCTC configuration. A MCTC can only be monitored once, it is not possible to monitor one MCTC from different computers simultaneously. 7 MCLAN2 Manual
8 3 Operation 3.1 Interface The program can be controlled by the menu buttons Button Function Home Return to the Machine overview level Up Go back one level Add Add MCTC to the configuration (only available from the Machine overview level) Actions Opens the Actions dialog (save configuration, VNC connection Events Opens the Events dialog (download of eventlog) Recipes Opens the Recipe management dialog Details Shows the details of the selected component Chart Displays the logged data of the selected component in a chart Table Displays the logged data of the selected component in a table The MCLAN program is build up in levels. These are the same levels as used in the MCTC configuration. When browsing through the configuration, the current location is shown in the green address bar. This address bar changes color in case of an error or warning situation on a configured MCTC Machines overview level Lowest level, displays all configured MCTC devices. 10 3.2 Log Data Data logging As soon as the program is started and the configured MCTC s are online, the Data logging is started. New log data is added to the log file when the machine is in production. For injection molding, each shot means a new entry in the log data. For extrusion a new entry is added to the log data at a fixed time interval (can be set in settings menu, see chapter Application settings) For each configured MCTC a log file is created. To avoid big sized log files, each day is started with a new log file (at midnight). Log files can be coupled to production order numbers, this number can used in the data log file name. TC Name, MCTC IP, Date, Order no. The log data is by default saved in the Conair folder in the documents folder of your computer. This path can be changed in the settings menu Online Offline In general MCLAN works in ONLINE mode. This means the program is connected to the MCTC s configured and displays realtime data. To be able to analyze previous production data, it is possible to open data log files within the MCLAN program. To open files, click the menu dropdown button, select Open -> Open log data Browse for your computer for the required file to open. A new MCLAN window will open in OFFLINE mode. You don t need to have MCTC configured at machine level to be able to open a log data file Export data For further analysis the log data can be exported in a comma separated file, this can be used in programs like excel. Within the table view (chapter Table View) you can use the file. button to export the 10 MCLAN2 Manual
11 3.2.4 Microsoft Office Excel import The in the previous paragraph exported CSV file can be imported in for example Microsoft Office Excel for further analysis. Start MS Office Excel and select File -> Open Navigate to the folder where the MCLAN2 log files export has been saved to. Change the file filter property to All Files (*.*) The MCLAN2 log files will be displayed now Select the file, and choose Open An import wizard will be started, be sure the option Delimited is checked. Click Next > Check the Delimiters option Semicolon Click Finish The data will now be displayed on a MS Office excel worksheet and can be edited for further analysis. 11 MCLAN2 Manual
12 3.2.5 Chart view The chart view displays real time (actual) and historic process data. The user can select the parameters which will be shown in the chart. For multi component systems, different charts can be selected. The top chart is always belongs to the selected component. The second (slave) chart can be chosen freely. Per chart you can assign different 2 parameters to the left and right axis (controls menu). Zoom functions: Zoom to a certain area (window) can be done by pulling a square at the position at the chart (keep left mouse button pressed during pulling). Panning the chart can be done by keeping middle mouse button pressed, and drag the chart. This panning can only be used on the top chart, not on the slave chart. Right click on the chart gives you the options: zoom to fit and save to bitmap. Zoom to fit resets the current zoom level for all charts Table view The table view displays the logged data in table form. Data is ordered chronological, last entry on top of the list. 13 3.3 Recipes function Recipe/material management With the recipe function it is possible to create, edit and manage recipes. From the Group overview level it is possible to open the recipe management window The recipe window is separated in 2 fields, Materials and Recipes. The active loaded recipe is shown. Using the button, the list is refreshed. Recipe function must be enabled at the selected MCTC, otherwise only materials will be shown. By using the right mouse button you can call several functions for materials or recipes. Right click on a material give the following options: Delete materials Export materials Load material Save materials Deletes selected materials from the controller Exports the selected material in CSV format Import a previous saved material to the controller Saves the selected materials to your computer Right click on a a recipe gives the following options: Edit recipe Opens the edit recipe dialog for the selected recipe New recipe Opens the edit recipe dialog for creating a new recipe Delete recipe Deletes the selected recipes from the controller Export recipes Export the selected recipes in CSV format. Load recipes Import a previous saved recipe to the controller Save recipes Saves the selected recipes to your computer 13 MCLAN2 Manual
14 3.3.2 Edit recipe dialog With the edit recipe dialog you can make changes in the recipe or create a new recipe : Recipe name 2: Group parameters 3: Component parameters 4: Material selection 5: Dosing percentage 6: Activate current recipe on controller 7: Save recipe to controller 8: Discard changes Recipe name: This recipe name is also shown at the controller recipe list. Group parameters: o Injection molding: only one group is available for Injection Molding. Shot weight and dosing time parameters for this group can be edited. o Extrusion: Multiple groups are available for Extrusion mode. Extruder capacity can be edited. Component parameters: User can select per component a material curve. Dosing percentage: Dosing percentage for selected component/material. Activate recipe: Sets current recipe to active recipe on controller. Save recipe to controller: Recipe is saved the controller (changes are not activated directly, user needs to reload the recipe). 14 MCLAN2 Manual
15 3.4 Event log The event log provides historic information about changes made to the controller configuration or process values. It can be used for process debugging, alarm/warning monitoring, staff monitoring etcetera. After opening the Event log dialog, the event list is empty, use the event log from the controller to the MCLAN program. button to fetch the The events are displayed chronological and provides the next values: 1: Date Date/time stamp when event occurred 2: Component The component at which the event occurred. 3: Item Type of event: parameter/action description 4: Current value Actual, new value of parameter 5: Previous value Old, previous value of parameter or machine status 3.5 Actions The actions dialog provides some Machine level functions. 1: Save configuration Saves the current controller configuration to a file 2: Update configuration Uploads a previous saved configuration to the controller 3: Delete Remove selected controller from configuration 4: Reconfigure Reload the controller configuration to MCLAN (creates a new log file) 5: Open with VNC viewer * Display and control the controller screen on your computer screen * requires login, see chapter Login 15 MCLAN2 Manual
16 4 Settings and License From the main menu tab, select Other 4.1 Application settings Language: Database path: Log interval: Reload last configuration at startup: Weight units: Select the MCLAN program interface language. Path where logfiles are stored. For extrusion, time interval a new log entry is fetched from controller and stored in the log table. If enabled, the program starts with it last configuration. Otherwise it will restart without configured controllers. Display gram/sec, kg/h or lb/h Login The MCLAN program offers more functionality which requires a login. When logged in with supervisor (code 2222) level, VNC functionality will be enabled within the MCLAN2 program. 16 MCLAN2 Manual
17 4.2 License The MCLAN2 program runs in demo mode by default, after a period of 42 days the program cannot be started anymore and needs a license code. The license can be installed on one computer only. A license code can be purchased at your local dealer. Please mention the Unique ID with your purchase order. From outside the United States, call: You can commission Conair service personnel to provide on-site service by contacting the Customer Service Department. Standard rates include an on-site hourly rate, with a one-day minimum plus expenses. Before You Call... If you do have a problem, please complete the following checklist before calling Conair: Make sure you have all model, control type from the serial tag, and parts list numbers for your particular equipment. Service personnel will need this information to assist you. Make sure power is supplied to the equipment. Make sure that all connectors and wires within and between control systems and related components have been installed correctly. Check the troubleshooting guide of this manual for a solution. Thoroughly examine the instruction manual(s) for associated equipment, especially controls. Each manual may have its own troubleshooting guide to help you. 18 MCLAN2 Manual
19 Equipment Guarantee Conair guarantees the machinery and equipment on this order, for a period as defined in the quotation from date of shipment, against defects in material and workmanship under the normal use and service for which it was recommended (except for parts that are typically replaced after normal usage, such as filters, liner plates, etc.). Conair s guarantee is limited to replacing, at our option, the part or parts determined by us to be defective after examination. The customer assumes the cost of transportation of the part or parts to and from the factory. Performance Warranty Conair warrants that this equipment will perform at or above the ratings stated in specific quotations covering the equipment or as detailed in engineering specifications, provided the equipment is applied, installed, operated and maintained in the recommended manner as outlined in our quotation or specifications. Should performance not meet warranted levels, Conair at its discretion will exercise one of the following options: Inspect the equipment and perform alterations or adjustments to satisfy performance claims. (Charges for such inspections and corrections will be waived unless failure to meet warranty is due to misapplication, improper installation, poor maintenance practices or improper operation.) Replace the original equipment with other Conair equipment that will meet original performance claims at no extra cost to the customer. Refund the invoiced cost to the customer. Credit is subject to prior notice by the customer at which time a Return Goods Authorization Number (RGA) will be issued by Conair s Service Department. Returned equipment must be well crated and in proper operating condition, including all parts. Returns must be prepaid. Purchaser must notify Conair in writing of any claim and provide a customer receipt and other evidence that a claim is being made.
