1 C.SCOPE PC Toolkit User Guide Connecting C.Scope products to a computer. For product Firmware updates and Data Logging. Only for use with Microsoft Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 10

2 C.Scope PC Toolkit for Windows based computers The C.SCOPE PC TOOLKIT updates XL4 Locator firmware to the latest version. The C.SCOPE PC TOOLKIT also downloads activity records ( Records ) from any of the C.Scope Data Logging Cable Avoidance Tools ( Locators ) and Signal Generators/Transmitters to a (Windows based) computer. The Records can be viewed in a variety of ways; as a time-stamped data format, exported for use in Excel, exported for use into a reporting or similar computer application, or viewed in a simple pie chart format. 3 Getting Started 1. Go to cscopelocators.com/toolkit to download your free C.SCOPE PC TOOLKIT. This Program automatically checks for updates when the PC is connected to the internet. 2. Follow the instructions on the webpage to install the Toolkit. Note: You may need to contact your company IT department to install new software on your computer. 3. Open the C.SCOPE PC TOOLKIT. There are four tabs on the C.SCOPE PC TOOLKIT that allow you to Connect, Transfer, Analyse and Setup. You are now ready to Connect your Locator or Signal Generator/Transmitter to your computer. 2

4 CONNECT via USB TRANSFER 1. Connect the USB cable between the Locator or Signal Generator / Transmitter and the PC. The Locator or Signal Generator / Transmitter will power up automatically. 2. The Toolkit Software will prompt you with a dialogue box asking if you wish to connect with a Locator or Signal Generator/Transmitter by quoting the model type and serial number in a pop-up box. Select Yes. When the software is recognising the Locator or Signal Generator / Transmitter, the red indicator will change to yellow. Once it has connected, the indicator will change from yellow to green indicating that the Toolkit has connected. A further confirmation is that the model number, serial number and any registered user name will appear in their respective boxes. If there is a later firmware update available for any XL4 Locator then this will be automatically loaded. (This applies to data logging and non-data logging XL4 Locators). You are now connected and ready to transfer Records. To transfer Records between specific dates, enter a date range in the Transfer tab and press Start Transfer. There will be a delay before the transfer starts as the C.SCOPE PC Toolkit locates and verifies the selected data. The transfer is indicated by the progress of the blue bar. The Live Monitor line will show the Records as they are being received by your computer. Once the data has downloaded it will be saved to your computers hard drive and displayed immediately in the View Data window. You may now select dates from the records transferred and review the information either in a second by second list or in a pie chart summary. Pie charts may be saved and reviewed later using the Analyse tab. Automatic Daily Self Test results can be checked by retrieving the certificates from the Locator or Signal Generator / Transmitter for specific dates. Select the date required from the calendar on the Transfer tab. If the Locator or Signal Generator / Transmitter was used on that day, the certificate will be retreived and stored in the folder accessed from the Connect tab. You are now ready to Analyse your data. 3

5 ANALYSE SET UP If you wish to look at data from a previously transferred data log file then select Open in the Data File section of the window and select the file you wish to view. Select View Current on the Analyse tab to show how and when the Locator or Signal Generator/Transmitter was used each day over the selected period. The screen shows the date, time and mode of detection as well as the indicated signal strength for every second of usage. While a Locator is connected you can change the following settings using the Setup tab: 1. Username 2. Time 3. Date 4. AlarmZone depth. Note: All instances of the Automatic Daily Self Test (ADST) are stored. They are shown in the Self Test column of the View Data window. For viewing Records sent as an via the C.Scope RELAY smartphone App, save the attachment to a suitable folder on your computer and then use the Open button. The Records will then appear as if you had transferred directly from the Locator. Any data log file can be transferred into a.csv file (a raw data file) by clicking the Export as CSV button. This can then be used to create any number of tables, graphs or pie charts in Microsoft Excel or another application. 4

6 Glossary of Terms TOOLKIT: C.Scope PC Application that updates Locator firmware and transfers Activity Records to a Windows based computer. MODE: Describes the proportion of Locator or Signal Generator/ Transmitter use in Power, Radio, Generator/Transmitter and AllScan modes. ACTIVITY RECORDS: The data that is stored on the Locator or Signal Generator/ Transmitter providing Date, Time, Mode, Frequency, Depth and Signal Strength, etc. GPS: Geographical Positioning System. COMPUTER: Windows based Computer using Microsoft Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 10 only. FIRMWARE: Operating software embedded in the Locator / Signal Generator/Transmitter. PORT: The name given to the connection between the connected device and the PC. It is assigned a number for reference and is used for sending and receiving data to and from the connected device. 5
