2 Installing the Training Tracker Windows Mobile Software OPN-2001 Use these instructions if you are installing the OPN Connect your OPN-2001 scanner to a USB port. 2. For Windows 8, 7, and Vista users: If drivers do not automatically install, follow Windows XP instructions. a. Windows XP Users: In the Start Menu, right click on My Computer and select Manage. b. In the Computer Management window that appears, select Device Manager in the menu on the left side. You should now see a list of devices on your computer. c. Devices without drivers installed will appear in Other Devices and have a yellow triangle or question mark next to it. d. Open a web browser and navigate to the following download link: This will prompt you to either save or open a download. Choose Open: e. Once the download is complete, find the file and unzip it. There should be only one file in the now unzipped folder, named USB Drivers Installer. Double-click this file to run it. f. The program will start running, and you should see a window similar to the one below appear: Page 2

3 g. Ensure that all three components are selected, and then click Install. Click OK when each component finishes installing. On completion, the install will close by itself. h. Bring up the Device Manager window and, in the Action menu at the top, select Scan for Hardware Changes. Once completed, the scanner should show up in the Ports (COM & LPT) category, as shown below: Page 3

4 The OPN-2001 scanner has now been installed successfully. Setting your scanner to the correct COM port. 1. If you are running Windows XP then right click on My Computer and click Manage. If Page 4

5 you are running Windows Vista or Windows 7 then click the Start Menu, then right click on Computer, and then click Manage. 2. Click System Tools, then Device Manager, then Ports (COM & LPT), then right click on your scanner and select Properties. 3. Click on the Port Settings tab and then on Advanced. Page 5

6 4. Click on the drop down arrow for COM Port Number. We want to select either COM1 or COM2. If COM2 or COM4 is already in use then select COM1. If COM1 or COM3 is already in use then select COM2. If both COM3 and COM4 are in use, choose COM5 or higher. For example, in this case both COM 2 and COM3 are already in use so the user would have to select COM5. Page 6

7 Click OK on the Advanced Settings window and then again on the Opticon USB Code Reader window. Scanner Operation See the scanner s manual for instructions on using the barcode scanner. Connecting the Scanner to Training Tracker 6 1. Open Training Tracker 6. In the Utility menu, select Scanner Setup. Page 7

8 2. In the Scanner Setup window, select Opticon OPN-2001/2/3, and choose the port you selected previously. 3. If you wish to clear the data on the scanner and set the date to the current date (recommended for new scanners and those with old data), select Initialize, otherwise click Save. Your Opticon OPN-2001 scanner is now set up! Page 8

9 Scanner Laser Warnings The scanners incorporate a Class II laser. The visible laser diode has a maximum output of one milliwatt. Laser light can be dangerous to you or others nearby if it is improperly used. Be sure to observe the caution label on the scanners along with the following cautions: Do not look into the laser with a magnifying lens. Do not stare directly into the laser beam. Do not remove the laser caution labels from the scanner. The laser is certified for use with the scanner only. Do not connect the laser to any other device. Page 9
